I hate to break it to you kids, but the holidays are over. As it always does, the holiday season came – and went – even quicker than I remember it doing in years past.
Before it gets too far into January, I thought I’d share with you a quick holiday recap – because I all know you’ve been dying to know what I was up to the past few weeks.
I spent a week back home with my family in New York. It was glorious. I did pretty much nothing for a few days in a row. Here is a sample Day in the Life of Melissa on Vacation:
6:45 a.m. wake up.
7:15 a.m. go to the gym with my parents, run on the treadmill and then do some weights or other machines with them.
9 a.m. get back home, stretch, do abs, shower, relax while my parents go to work. Eat copious amounts of my mom’s homemade granola.

Said Granola
10 a.m. do some chores/errands, relating to holiday baking. For example: make lemon bars, jam cookies, Buckeyes or rolo stuffed peanut butter brownies. Or go to the store and buy ingredients for the cookies.
around 12 p.m. eat some more granola, take our dog for a walk (sometimes with my mom!), eat some cheese and challah bread.

How can you say no to walking this cute face?
around 1 p.m. do some more errands like send out holiday cards, write thank you cards, get ahead on work, read, etc.
the rest of the afternoon post 1 p.m. help with dinner, relax, eat more granola, etc. and then enjoy a pretty amazing homemade dinner with my parents and brother.

just one of the amazing meals my mom made when I was home – cornish hens with a wild rice stuffing
Sounds great, huh?
Don’t worry, I strayed from this schedule a few times.
One day, my dad and I visited my grandmother and spent the day with her downstate.

Another day (okay twice), we went to the movies. We saw Frozen and American Hustle. Both amazing movies – but in very different ways. I highly recommend both.
one of the best songs in the movie:
and one of my favorite scenes. yes, i’m an adult.
A few times, I ran outside instead of going to the gym.

it was like single digits this morning.
Another day, my brother and I did some work together at a bookstore in the mall. Followed by dinner at the Cheesecake Factory in the mall … because why not?

And another day I got to hang out with two of my high school best friends Jane and Alisa. We had planned on watching a holiday movie but instead ended up just talking until about 1:30 a.m. Because that’s what high school friends do, right?
[jane and i took a photo but she told me i’d have to photoshop it before putting on the blog and since i don’t have photoshop you’ll just have to imagine what it looked like]
And of course there were a few days of Christmas celebrations – gift giving, more great meals and desserts, and just relaxing with B and my extended family.

opening up gifts!

Pretty much a perfect vacation if you ask me – filled with friends, food, family, and a few runs. Oh and a trip to Nashville – but I’ll get to that later.
How were your holidays?
