Tuesdays on the Run: Feeling in a Running Funk

Happy Halloween!  Here’s some sccarrrrry news — I’m in a little of a running funk.

I don’t know why – maybe it was the death of my Fitbit … maybe it’s the cold mornings … maybe it’s how dark it is … maybe it’s the same running routes … maybe it’s the fact that I don’t have any races in the near future … but whatever it is, I NEED to get out of it!

If you look at my mileage, below, it doesn’t paint the full picture. The funk really started on Wednesday and 3 days in a row I slept through my alarm and/or just didn’t get out of bed. And then I didn’t run all weekend, which is usually prime running time for me! Yes, the weather was cold and rainy and cruddy, but still – no runs is weird.

I’m not sure how to get out of it.

Some questions for you:

  • What do you do to get out of a running funk?
  • I’ve asked this before, but I need answers! What kind of running watch/fitness device do you have? do you like it?

Rainy Fall Weekends

Happy Sunday! It was a rainy, cool fall weekend here in Cleveland but we still had some fun and were even productive.  Fun and productive weekends are the best kind!

Friday night started with a game watch for out alma mater. We watched BC take on FSU AT Masthead.

Masthead has great food and beer. I tried their vegan pizza and it was so delicious! Sorry for the blurry pic- but you can see it had tofu and peppers and onions.

Saturday was a super productive day where we basically did nothing. Catch my drift? It was one of those days where it was suddenly 4 p.m. and I didn’t know what I had done with my day. We went to the hardware store, and then to the lighting store. We actually outfitted our house with lights and fans and I can’t wait until they come! We ended up buying NINE things –  5 ceiling fans, a bathroom light, a chandelier and 2 lights for our living room.

We celebrated our lighting purchase with some East Coast Custard.

We then did a trip to Target AND Whole Foods to pick up some stuff for the week.

And then it was almost dinnertime! B made us coq au vin, which was SO good and perfect for a cold, rainy day.

Sunday, FW slept in! So we started the day a little lazily with some books and pjs.

The day also included a rainy day walk with B and FW.

And then, we went to Ladies Craft Beer Society! We made different dyed fabrics – I had to leave  before they were done but I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

After family dinner, we started to finally figure out our Halloween decor. We have 3 pumpkins and some spooky lights that we need to put up tomorrow!

Some questions for you:

  • Was it a dreary, wet weekend near you too?
  • What’s a good comfort meal we should make this week?

Tuesdays on the Run: Feeling Good!

The theme for last week is “feeling good.” Really – I felt pretty good all week! I took it somewhat easy again with no runs lasting longer than 5 miles, took 1 day off, and even got in a day of a stroller run and a day of running with a friend. Which made for a pretty well-rounded, good week.

This week’s running highlights:

Basically we had PERFECT running weather all week! The weather was cool in the mornings but there was no need to wear layers. And then on the weekends it was 75 degrees high in the afternoon.

This made for great weather for a stroller run with FW on Sunday. We got in a little over 3 miles and despite me feeling really winded during the whole ordeal (and running 11+min/miles), I enjoyed it. AND, he fell asleep toward the end, which is always nice.

It was also pretty perfect weather for a 3.6 (must be the magic number?!) mile run with my friend Nicole on Saturday. I neglected to take a pic of the both of us, here’s a pic afterwards of just me.

It’s been great to feel good running – my piriformis pain is GONE – and while I’m still much slower than I was a few months ago, running pain free is the best.

Some questions for you:

  • How has the weather been near you for running?
  • Do run solo or with friends or a group?

Why Can’t Weekends Last Forever?

Why can’t weekends last forever? But seriously – shouldn’t they be even at least a little longer? Can someone figure out a way to make that happen? Because some weekends – like this past one – are just pretty great.

Friday started with going out to breakfast with B and FW. We got some fruit and eggs for FW and some amazing lemon ricotta pancakes for me. FW actually ended up eating most of my pancakes – he loved them!

That night, I was in the mood for some Vietnamese food. So, after little outing to my favorite Asian grocery store (we picked up some more Vietnamese coffee and canned jackfruit), we grabbed some dinner at Superior Pho. I got some bun with an egg roll – it was amazing!

Saturday morning started off with a run with my friend Nicole. We used to run together all the time when we both lived downtown and it was great to run together. I should’ve taken a selfie of us together like I used to! Instead, just a selfie of me.

Then, there was some time to hang out with FW. Which meant a few books were read – the little guy loves reading.

That afternoon, some friends came into town and they went to B’s high school football game. FW went too (and was dressed for the part to root for Ignatius).

While they were gone, I was busy! And it was all great stuff. I watched part of a chick flick – the Holiday! It’s not quite the holiday season yet, but the movie is great all year long in my opinion.

Without a baby and husband, I made meatballs (well, sorta – B had already gotten the meat ready – I just balled them all up and cooked them ) …

I also did a bit of baking. I baked some chocolate cake and some buckeye bars.

Saturday afternoon included hanging out with some friends from out of town (unpictured) and eating said delicious meatballs.

Sunday morning started with a short walk with FW to pick up some pastries to enjoy with our out-of-town guests. FW enjoys cinnamon croissants 🙂

The day also included some housework – cleaning and raking.

That afternoon, we decided to check out a little street fair happening not to far from our house. It was fun to be able to walk to it!

We decided to stop by the local bookstore and pick up  few items. Including a hedgehog book for FW!

I hope he likes hedgehogs as much as I do 🙂

The night ended with some homemade pizza. I love B’s pizza!

So yeah, it was a pretty great weekend. Can we do it all over again?

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your go-to Vietnamese order?
  • When was the last time you baked?

Tuesdays on the Run: RIP FitBit

It was a relatively low-ish mileage week here for me. While I ran 6 of 7 days this week, I didn’t quite get in any long runs and two of them were under 3 miles. BUT I ended up with 20 miles for the week so I feel good about it!

Here is a summary:

Some highlights/lowlights:

Last week was a little abnormal in that I was traveling for work and actually had access to a gym one day! AND my Fitbit broke. For good. Like it no longer works at all…

I used the treadmill AND the elliptical. It had been YEARS it seemed since I last used an elliptical!

Some questions for you:

  • What are you wearing in terms of a fitness watch these days? I’m in the market for a new one!
  • What are you looking forward to most this week?

My Weekend – One Sentence Per Photo

Friday nights call for homemade pizza.

And cupcakes.

Saturday morning started with brunch with ladies (and avocado toast).

Afternoon walks when it is 78 degrees in the fall are the best.

Homemade pasta is my favorite.

I’m starting  to enjoy runs in the burbs.

He is my new running buddy!

He likes to help paint.

Storytime before bedtime.

Some questions for you:

  • Did you enjoy some warm weather too this weekend?
  • What’s your favorite children’s book?

Tuesdays on the Run: Finishing Up A Sick Week

Last week, you may recall, I was fighting a sick week. I had a cold-turned-sinus infection and was tired, my head hurt and it was hard to breathe. So, I took it easy a few days, did some walk/runs and slept in.

BUT, thankfully I’m feeling nearly all better and back at running!  Here is some of my mileage from last week:

The week’s running highlight?

Saturday I got in a stroller run/walk with FW while B did some work around the house. He enjoyed when we were running more so than when we were walking. AND he fell asleep just as we were finishing up.

Some questions for you:

  • Have you had a sinus infection recently? What’s your go-to remedy?
  • Are you doing any races anytime soon?

A WINdians Weekend With the Grandparents

This weekend FLEW by. I seriously feel like I blinked and it was over. Maybe because we had just too much fun?

Our weekend started with an AMAZING Indians game. They are in the playoffs again and B and I had tickets to game 2 of the ALDS vs. the Yankees. Yes, I’m from NY but I’m cheering for the Indians all the way! (don’t worry – I grew up in a Mets and SF Giants household) The game was a good one – it went into 13 innings but we came home with a win!! Now onto game 3 (which they’re playing now … eep!)

Saturday morning I took a short stroller jog with FW. It was a run/walk and we ended up at some lakes again. I enjoy this view 🙂

Then, it was time to head to Celia’s for her birthday party! I can’t believe this girl is two already.

That afternoon my parents came into town! We grabbed pizza in Little Italy after they got into town for dinner.

Another highlight from the weekend? FW transitioned into a big(ger) kid car seat! I cannot believe he’s pretty much officially a toddler. Or almost.

The weekend also included some delicious brunch (avocado toast for me!) at Luna.

And, we headed to the Zoo to watch the animals.

FW was way more into the elephants and the other animals this time!

He was also adamant about walking around on his own. Which means things took a lot longer to get to 🙂

We ended up Sunday with a baseball-themed dinner and a little game watching. Go Tribe!

Questions for you:

  • Are you watching baseball right now?
  • Do you like zoos?

Tuesdays on the Run: Sick Week

This post will be somewhat sort because I’m sick. I’m getting over a flu-like cold and therefore this week included not so many runs, unless you count running after a 15-month-old. Even that was short-lived, as I tried to spend at least some of my free time napping.

Total for this week: 3 runs, 13ish miles total

  • Tuesday: 5 miles
  • Wednesday: 4.68 miles
  • Thursday: 4.15 miles

Some of the highlights:

I did get in 3 runs before the plague hit. I slept in Thursday and Friday and opted to just go for a long walk on Saturday.  I actually started to run a little with the stroller on Saturday morning, but had too much coughing/throat hurting (I had to breathe with my mouth open) that I decided that walking was a better fit.

selfie with FW during the walk

view from my walk on Saturday

Here’s to hoping that I kick this cold soon and am back and running again!

  • Do you run when sick? Typically, yes. As long as it’s just a cold! But this one has got me down for the count.
  • Any tips for getting better fast?

Date Night, Days with FW and Baby Brunches

For having a weekend with little on the schedule, it seemed pretty jam packed again. I don’t know how that happens? As much as I love getting out and doing stuff, I am longing for a weekend where I can lay on the couch, eat popcorn and catch up on Netflix and reading …

Anyway, here’s some of the fun stuff we did this weekend. We started out with a date night for B and me. It was a belated birthday dinner!  We went to Nuevo, a local Mexican restaurant and had some great food. We shared some guacamole, fried plantains, tacos al pastor AND carne asada.

After, we ended up picking up Katie, B’s sister, who was babysitting FW, some pizza in Little Italy. So of course while w were there, we stopped off at Presti’s for dessert!

Saturday, B had plans to paint, so my job was to occupy FW most of the day. So, here’s what we did.

We tok a long walk in the morning.

We even walked to the nearby lakes. I think FW enjoyed it – he didn’t sleep!

We also played and read a lot in his room. I’m getting sick so there was some playing with tissues (clean ones, of course!).

We also checked out the local library. We’d never been there and I think FW liked it a lot! He played with some of the toys and loved the fish tank.

Saturday night included some takeout pizza (with eggplant on mine, yum!) and a little relaxing, which was definitely called for.

Sunday morning started with a  brunch/baby shower for Anson! She is due in about two weeks with baby #2, so Lulu and I organized a get together at Le Petit Triangle. I had some great French toast with lemon curd and berries. Their French toast is on challah and so good!

After that, we went to the West Side Market to get in some grocery shopping.  It had been forever since we shopped there and it was so nice to be back!

Love shopping here!

That afternoon included some chores (including raking) and then spaghetti and meatballs at B’s parents house. Pretty much the perfect fall meal.

Questions for you:

  • Did it feel like fall where you are this weekend?
  • Do you like eggplant on pizza?
