Weekly Running Update: Sick Kids and Crazy Storms

We had an eventful week last week.

Sunday night brought the stomach flu to our house – FW was up throwing at night and spent Monday home sick from school. B got sick on Wednesday, but thankfully so far LM and I got spared. I was still able to get in a run most days, but took Monday off as we were up most of the night with the sick kiddo and I was also afraid to be out running while he was sick.

Then Friday night, our neighborhood got hit by a crazy storm –  a microburst is what they’re calling it (similar to a tornado but part of a thunderstorm). We were out when it happened and barely made it home – each street we drove down had tree after tree down in the street, power lines down and even some wires AND trees on fire. It was crazy. Needless to say, Saturday I did not get in a run. We were without power and the streets were filled with downed power lines, smashed cars, debris, etc. I spent the day trying to help clean up and figure out what we had to do next to get our home back in order.

there was some damage to one of our cars during the storm — but nothing like this!

Even with all of that, it was a good week mileage wise. This week we are without internet and power for some time, so blogging may be minimal, but I’m going to keep trying to run in the mornings. Hopefully power goes back on soon so the streets are brighter!

Some questions for you:

  • How do you fit in runs when you’re sick or taking care of sick family members?
  • Have you ever run in a crazy storm?

Weekly Running Update: Uneven Mileage

Do you try to run an evenish number of miles when you run?

I mean, if you get to 3.42 miles, do you keep going to get to 3.5? Or if you’re at 2.14 do you run to 2.2 or even 2.25 or 2.5?

I don’t (as you can see) at all. It doesn’t bother me to run 3.52 miles or anything like that. In fact, this week I almost hit 30 miles, but because I don’t run even numbers, I jusssst missed it. Here’s how the week turned out:

Some highlights from the week include:

Sunday I got in another bagel run with FW. We took the stroller out for a run to the bagel shop, picked up some fresh bagels and then ran back. It actually rained the whole time, but FW was a good sport.

I actually got in 2 stroller runs last week – because school was closed on Monday, we were home with the kids and I took FW out Sunday and Monday.

Okay, this is a non-running related highlight, but I also saw Mindy Kaling speak last week! She was a keynote at Content Marketing World and I was fangirling the entire time.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you run even numbers?
  • Have you ever seen a celebrity speak?

Weekly Running Update: 33 Miles

This week was another great week in terms of running and mileage. I somehow ended up with 33+ miles and I’m pretty happy with it.

The mornings have been getting cooler, too – it’s been in the upper sixties and lower seventies when I go out, and that makes for a pretty pleasant run. Can the weather stay this way all year? I’m not ready for fall/winter yet!

Here’s a look at the weekly mileage:

Some highlights from the week include:

Sunday I got in a bagel run with FW. We took the stroller out for a run to the bagel shop, which is just 2ish miles or so away. We picked up some fresh bagels and then ran back.

There were some pretty skies this week and the clouds were photoworthy. One morning I finished as the sun was rising and caught this sunrise.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you run before the sun comes up?
  • What’s your favorite kind of bagel?

Weekly Running Recap: Back from Vacation

Well, I’m back from Chicago and back from vacation and back in the grind. Which means, back to my normal everyday workouts. Here is a look at my mileage this week:

Some highlights from the week include:

I actually did something other than running! When I was still in Chicago, I did a circuit training workout with my friend Melgar. We did a mileish warmup on the treadmill, and then did a full-body Nike+ workout at the hotel gym. We looked ridiculous but it was so fun to do something other than run AND it was fun to get in a workout with friends.

Saturday I got in a short stroller run/walk to a playground for a picnic with FW and LM. No running photos from that, but instead, pics at the park.

Some questions for you:

  • How many days do you do something other than run?
  • How often do you workout with friends?

Weekly Running Recap: Girls Vacation

I’m currently writing this blog post from Chicago! I took a few days off and headed to the Windy City for a girls weekend with some of my favorite ladies. My bffs from high school, Jane, Melgar and Alisa. So, the beginning of the week was pretty much running/activity as usual – but the end of the week was a little out of the ordinary with travel, etc. Here is a look at my mileage this week:Some highlights from the week include:

Sunday – getting in a family stroller run! This is the second week in a row we were able to do this and it was amazing. I loved running with FW (in the stroller) while B pushed LM in the stroller. I typically run by myself in the morning, so it was nice to be able to run with the whole family.running with the BOB stroller

Monday-I got in a pre-work 10k! I didn’t sleep well Sunday night and woke up at 4 something unable to go back to sleep, so I was able to get out and start running early.Garmin Fenix 5s running 10k

Saturday: I even got in one outdoor run in Chicago! Running on vacation doesn’t always happen, but I’m so happy we made time for a short run during our travels. And since I wasn’t packing for the kids, I had plenty of room in my suitcase for my running clothes and sneakers! I got in a run along the waterfront trail with my friend Alisa on Saturday morning while my friends Melgar and Jane went to a yoga class. I love running outside in a new city and this one was fab!

Some questions for you:

  • Do you bring running clothes on vacation?
  • Do you prefer running alone or with people?

Weekly Running Recap: 30+ Miles

This week was a relatively high mileage week for me total — 31 miles! I haven’t seen 30 weekly miles since I was half marathon training a few months ago, but somehow I ended up hitting that number this week.

Here is a look at my mileage this week:

Some highlights from the week include:

Seeing lots of deer again. Including these 2 baby deer, which I saw a few days in a row!

Getting in a stroller run with my little man on Sunday.

He even took a pic of me during one of our water breaks!

Running every day. It doesn’t happen often that I don’t take a day off, but I felt pretty good all week.

Some questions for you:

  • How many days do you run?
  • Do you have a step goal you set for yourself?

Weekly Running Recap: Back At It

I am BACK from vacation. Yup, back at work, back at early morning runs and boy am I TIRED. Last week was the MLB All Star Game in Cleveland, and B ended up going to 3 nights of events for that (Sunday, Monday and then the game on Tuesday), which just made me tired.

I’ve definitely noticed a pattern in terms of how much sleep I get and how I’m able to run. Many of these runs were a STRUGGLE this week, mostly because I was going to bed past 11 and waking up at some point in the night when FW or LM got up. So when the 4:50 alarm went off I was pooped! My legs were tired, as was I. Here’s to hoping this week is a little less crazy at work and home and I get some more sleep!

Here is a look at my mileage this week:

Some highlights from the week include:

It was humid many mornings. I know 75 isn’t HOT but it was 80%+ humidity at 5 a.m.!

Seeing LOTS of deer. Several days I saw a momma deer and two babies. But one day, I saw a male deer, which doesn’t typically happen!

Monday morning, I got in more than 5 miles at a pace I was happy about. FW then went for a run that night around the block with us, so we got in 2ish runs 🙂

Saturday was an off day. But I still managed to get in my 11,000+ step goal, thanks to a walk we took as a family!

Some questions for you:

  • How early do you wake up to run?
  • Do you notice a difference in how much sleep you get and how your runs feel?
  • Do you have a step goal you set for yourself?
