Mini Vacation with the Baby

We’re back from a weekend away and the baby’s first hotel stay! B and I got in a quick weekend away with FW in Columbus and enjoyed some good food, drinks and even family time.

The weekend started off with pizza (yup,  every Friday) from Pies and Pints.  We didn’t get in until late, so we ended up not going out. Instead,  I picked up the pizza and grabbed a drink at the bar while B put FW to bed.  #winningmom

Saturday we had a while day of exploring to do! We started with breakfast and a walk in the Short North.

And then we spent the day on our feet walking – we walked to the Columbus Topiary Garden, downtown and German Village.

We also had to stop by North Market.

Saturday night,  we enjoyed dinner at a cute (and baby friendly!) restaurant- Hubbard.

I had amazing food.  We started off with fried Brussels sprouts and then I enjoyed a cauliflower sandwich with arugula quinoa salad. Jeni’s ice cream not pictured.

Sunday morning, we got up early and went for a stroller run around the city. We made it to a trail with a nice view of downtown.

Then, it was time for brunch! We ended our trip with brunch at B’s cousins’ house and FW got to meet his great aunt and cousins.

B, FW and cousin Pete – the Wolfpack! (I swear FW is howling at the moon, not crying)

And of course, we ended Sunday with dinner with B’s parents. We celebrated B and two of his brothers’ birthdays with B’s favorite – steak, mashed potatoes and chocolate chocolate cake!

Questions:

  • What is your favorite birthday cake? Ice cream cake!! Love me some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream cake- Heath bar (I know it’s not called that anymore) or Peanut Butter fudge.
  • Have you ever been to Columbus, Ohio?

And because it’s Monday, I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

Weekend Update: So Long, January

Well, January is gone. And it was a great month. B and I spent a week in Mexico City. I celebrated my birthday. I did some runs. And now, February is here!

We had a great weekend to close out the month. I spent half the time in Columbus, celebrating a cousin-in-law and her upcoming baby, got in a few runs, enjoyed some seasonably warm weather and even relaxed. Not a bad first weekend back in the country!

Saturday morning started with a 4.78 mile run in Columbus. Actually ended up running TO a restaurant for brunch, which was awesome.

Then it was baby shower time. We showered Stephanie and her little peanut with lots of love and gifts! Can’t wait to meet the baby in March 🙂20160130_141942 20160130_124343

Saturday night we got back pretty late, so the evening included some fruit and TV watching. 20160130_203748

And by TV watching, I mean watching the Sebastian episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Which was awesome. I’m a big fan of Sebastian Maniscalco and his comedy (B got me hooked on the Pete and Sebastian podcast and we’ve now seen him a few times live).

Sunday morning included ANOTHER outdoor run. That’s right – two in one weekend (if you’re counting). This time it was mid 50s and I wore capris. On Jan. 31. See my new shoes?? I love them!

Followed by brunch at Phuel. Oh yogurt parfait bowl – it has been too long! 20160131_123026

And then a free Starbucks. OF course I had to get a venti because it was a FREE reward! And yes, I’ll be drinking it for a few days because it is HUGE.20160131_142228

And then a little meal prep while catching up on some work.

Without our usual Sunday dinner plans, we opted for Italian. So Sunday afternoon included some sauce making. And meatball making. I can’t take credit – B actually made the meatballs. But I helped roll them!

And some Mitchells, Arctic Zero and homemade cookies for dessert. Just as any Sunday should end!

And that was it – my last weekend of January. How was yours?

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your favorite baby shower activity?
  • Was the weather warm where you live this weekend?
  • What’s something good you ate this weekend?

I’m linking up with Erin for my weekend snapshot post, Katie for MIMM and as usual, the weekly wraps.

A super belated weekend update

I know, I know. It’s THURSDAY for goodness sake and I’m just sharing you my weekend update now. But I was sick Sunday/Monday and of course had to get you my Training Tuesday post … anyway, here it is! Last weekend – which is super exciting to think about because this weekend is already almost here woohoo!

Friday evening B and I went out for wine, comedy and more drinks. I know – you’re probably super surprised because the past few Fridays B and I have been staying in. I’ve been in winter hibernation mode and more than happy to spend Friday night in with some wine and takeout and Netflix. But not this weekend – first, B and I started the night with a stop at Heinen’s for a few glasses of wine. Yup, wine at the grocery store = classy. Their new downtown location is just gorgeous though and it’s a great place to grab a drink and snack!

Then it was time for the show. We saw Joey Diaz at Hilarities. He was really really good – a little raw (that’s his style) but super funny! I love going to comedy shows with B and it was a nice way to kick off the weekend.

[I was going to embed a Joey Diaz video here but realize that most of his stuff is … well… NSFW. So you’ll just have to google a video for yourself :)]

After the show, we hit up Parnells for a nightcap. While there, we met up with B’s aunt and uncle who were in town to see Dirty Dancing and spending the night at a hotel. We grabbed drinks with them before heading back to our apartment.

Saturday morning started early – for me at least. I like sleeping in on the weekends. We had plans to meet up with B’s sister Mary and her friend for a 6 mile run at 8 a.m. It was in the 20s for the run, which was so warm! The sidewalks weren’t that clear, however, so it was a little icy. I can’t wait until clear roads and great running weather!

After the run, B and I hit up the West Side Market for some groceries for the week. We grabbed some Cleveland Bagel Co. bagels and tea at Cleveland Tea Revival and  then it was time to head to Columbus!

B’s cousin’s birthday was Sunday and we had planned to take a day trip down to see him, go to the movies, and get dinner for his celebration. We ended up getting to do all of those, which was fun – we hadn’t seen them since Christmas!

B, me and the birthday boy!

Sunday I woke up to sunny skies and “warm” weather – I was so excited to spend the day outside, going out to brunch, on a walk in the park, you name it. Sadly, my body had other plans in mind – I woke up with a slight fever, headache and achy body; so instead of enjoying the warm weather, I spent the day on the couch. I rarely get a day with fewer than 12,000 steps (I haven’t since I got the Fitbit in January) but got in a measly 700-something. I did end up watching 3 episodes of Walking Dead and several episodes of my new favorite Netflix show, the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. If you haven’t started watching this, you must:

And that was pretty much a look at last weekend. Besides spending all day Sunday inside and on the couch it was a pretty fun time! And now – looking forward to THIS weekend!

Some questions for you:

  • When was the last time you were sick? I had a few colds earlier this year but this was my first fever/body aches in a loong time!
  • What’s your favorite TV series to binge watch?

2 Races, 1 Weekend

Phew, we’re back from a pretty busy/nonstop weekend. The past few days have included some good meals, some art, a comedy show, and two races (including one PR!). Here are some picture to give you an idea:

Our weekend “started” on Thursday with a night at the Cleveland Art Museum with B’s work. We were treated to a peek at their Van Gogh exhibit, appetizers, and drinks in the gorgeous Atrium.

Friday night included another Flaming Ice Cube meal AND another comedy show, this time we saw a “Mom-ic” (mom-comic) who was a lot funnier than I expected.

Saturday morning was an early one – we started with the Cleveland 10 Miler!

B and I post Saturday’s 10 mile race. Feeling good! (and there’s a photobomber!)

Oh yeah, and B and I PRed in our Cleveland 10 miler time. It wasn’t our best pace ever (it wasn’t our half-marathon pace) but apparently the past few times we’ve done the 10 miler we were a lot slower. Check out the difference:

This year my finish time: 1:31:43. Yes, that’s more than a 10 minute PR.

That was just race #1 of the weekend. Saturday evening we headed down to Columbus and Sunday morning included Race #2: a 5k in Columbus to participate in a race B’s aunt was organizing that supported the local autism society.

That’s about it! How was your weekend? Some questions for you:

  • Have you run 2 races in one weekend? First time ever! And it wasn’t sooooo bad (though I may be in pain today …)
  • Favorite brunch food? I prefer eggs (over easy or sunny side up) to sweet breakfast items like pancakes or french toast.
  • Favorite post-run food? I typically crave salads with tons of toppings and of course a hunk of bread. But eggs are nice too 🙂
  • Last art exhibit you went to?
  • May is THIS WEEK! What’s something fun you’re doing? Running the Cleveland half marathon; seeing my brother graduate; seeing my family in NY AND in Cleveland … so much fun stuff going on!
