Steamy Week

This week was a steamy one. Most mornings when I went outside to run, it was already almost in the 80s, with 80%+ humidity. I’m not used to that, and my runs suffered.

Truthfully, I still prefer this to winter. Give me a steamy, sweaty run to one that’s single digits and icy. It may be muggy, but at least I’m not worried about slipping and falling!

So much to love about weekends

Ahhh, I looooove weekends. And we finally had a weekend with beautiful weather that felt like SPRING. It was sunny, not too hot and felt good just hanging out in sundresses. Which is my favorite type of weather. Especially with being super pregnant – not having to pull on pants or winter boots or my winter coat has been amazing!

Anyway, here’s a little how the weekend went.

It started with Friday night pizza. I had to work late (work is a little cuhhhhrazy right now), but it was all worth it when I got home and got to enjoy pizza night with my boys. Especially since FW ate nearly a whole slice!

Saturday morning, we walked to the nearby Farmers Market and got breakfast at a diner while we were there. There’s a diner right by where the train stop is and FW loved watching the trains go by.

He also loves it when the weather is nice 🙂

I love Farmers Market season! There were so many great flowers and plants out there.

That afternoon, after doing some chores, it was time to celebrate Cinco De Mayo AND Derby Day! B’s family hosts a big Derby party every year and this year was no different. We bet on a few horses and enjoyed watching the race.

It was such a beautiful night to be outside with his family and FW loved playing with all the kids. He may have been out a little past his bedtime … but look at that sky!

Sunday was a pretty productive day. We cleaned, cooked, meal planned and went grocery shopping. We went out to breakfast, went for a walk and even took naps. We had originally had lunch, mid-afternoon AND dinner plans but they all ended up falling through, so we ended up doing some prep for when baby #2 arrives.

Oh yea, and of course we had to watch some basketball this weekend. Go Cavs!

this was my breakfast. They ran out of yogurt so my granola and fruit were a little dry 😦

FW liked his grilled cheese and ate a few bites of his nest egg.

Is the baby’s room ready yet? No … but we’re getting there!

Some questions for you:

  • If you have kids, do you remember how far in advance you got their rooms ready?
  • How often do you do yard work? What’s your least/favorite yard chore?

I’m linking up with the weekly wraps.

Ice Cream for Dinner after the Dentist

Happy Wednesday! We’ve made it halfway through the week, and this Wednesday is especially special because tonight B and I are going out to celebrate his birthday. His big day was yesterday (and of course we celebrated with a great dinner from Mod Meals and a cake I made), but tonight we’re having Aunt Mary babysit so that we can get dinner out, just the two of us. Our second date night since FW was born!

It’s also What I Ate Wednesday! This day’s eats aren’t the healthiest – but that’s what WIAW is about, sharing our eats, for what they are.

Breakfast was pretty good – I’m on an overnight oats kick again, mainly because I don’t have granola anymore, am trying to not eat a gallon of yogurt a day (I think FW doesn’t like that, so I’ll keep my dairy to ice cream) and they’re easy to eat with a baby around. This time I had some cinnamon and almond and peanut butter in my mixture of oats, chia seeds, honey and almond milk.20160908_090043

Midmorning, FW and I went to two farmers markets that are walkable from our apartment. We may have gotten a little overexcited and purchased a little too many peaches, nectarines, veggies and local bread.

So  naturally, I snacked on a peach (it was SOOO GOOD) and nectarine that morning.20160908_114742

I also made some buckeyes that morning for a surprise for B’s birthday. So naturally I had one or two of those.

For lunch, I had leftover grilled chicken (my parents had sent me home from NY with leftovers, yay!), half a baked sweet potato, sliced local tomato (SO much better than non-in-season tomato) and spinach.

For dessert, I had a few spoonfuls of this deliciousness.

AND of course, I had to try a slice of that cinnamon bread I had bought at the market. So good!

B and I had dentist appointments that evening and after the dentist opted to stop by the local Dairy King for a quick treat to beat the heat. I had vanilla soft serve dipped in butterscotch. It was so good – but I was stuffed and not hungry for dinner after our 6 pm ice cream treat!

So those were some of my eats from last week’s dentist appointment day to share for What I Ate Wednesday.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you have any traditions from going to dr or dentist appointment growing up? B’s family used to always go out for dinner or a treat after the dentist, which is one reason we went.
  • Have you been to any farmers markets recently? What did you get?

Friday Five: Coming Up …

April may be flying by but I’m pretty much enjoying every speedy minute of it. The end of the month means that I have some fabulous things to look forward to:

1. DAZZLE the District!

I am SO excited for this event – happening NEXT FRIDAY. The Dazzle the District celebration is a big party happening in my neighborhood that in honor of some new renovations – lights, video signage, elegant gateways, a humongous “retro” sign inspired by PlayhouseSquare’s 1920s-era roots and the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. Yes, I will be living near the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. Anyway, there’s going to be a big party with happy hours, Hot Chelle Rae Concert and a lighting ceremony. I CAN’T wait. You better bet I’ll be tweeting/Instagramming/etc. with the hashtag, #DazzleCLE.

I walk by here every day pretty much .. here's where the chandelier will be!

2. Cleveland 10-Miler

The Cleveland 10-Miler is this weekend! It’s a race I’ve grown to love (yes, I said “love” about a 10 mile race) over the years. The crowds, the weather, the people running it, the after-party events, the medal, the Gu/water stops, the t-shirt and even the route. The last time I ran it I was training for a marathon and had already run 10 miles before the start (and had the last 10 miles of my 20 mile run be the race) so this weekend I’m happy to be “only” running these 10 miles.

3. Races for a Good Cause – A Better World for Autism 5K

The spring and summer are full of 5ks that support various causes. This weekend, B and I will be participating in a race that supports a cause that’s definitely close to us, autism awareness. B’s aunt is active in the organization hosting the race, so we’ll be driving down after our 10-miler to join their family in this event. Who knows if I’ll feel good enough to run in it, but I’m looking forward to being part of the event!

4. Summer Farmers Markets and CSAs!

Now that summer is almost here, it means our CSA is about to begin! B and I signed up once again for Fresh Fork Market and I can’t wait to see what new meats, vegetables, cheese, pasta, etc. we receive this year. I had a blast trying out new recipes and cooking many new greens last year (check out some of my Fresh Fork wrap ups, including what we got and what we made). Some of my favorites included:

Kohlrabi Slaw … I’m so happy that Fresh Fork introduced me to Kohlrabi – now I’m hooked!

Fennel, tomato and avocado salad

BEER CAN CHICKEN

5. Our 3rd Wedding Anniversary

Next week will mark 3 years that B and I have been married. Wild, huh? It honestly feels like yesterday (cliche, I know) that we were just dating, not even engaged. Wow, times have changed. Please join me for a walk down memory lane (warning, cheesiness ahead)

OK, i know this is before we met, but I couldn't help myself. :)

A few questions for you:

  • What are a few things you’re looking forward to as April draws to an end?
  • So apparently the 3rd anniversary is your “leather” anniversary. Quick, what are a few leather gifts?
  • Any fun races coming up?
  • Clevelanders – will I see you at Dazzle the District?
  • Has a CSA or Farmers Market introduced you to any new foods? Yup, kohlrabi! I love it roasted and as a slaw but when I first saw it I thought it was an alien. No joke. It scared me.
