So much to love about weekends

Ahhh, I looooove weekends. And we finally had a weekend with beautiful weather that felt like SPRING. It was sunny, not too hot and felt good just hanging out in sundresses. Which is my favorite type of weather. Especially with being super pregnant – not having to pull on pants or winter boots or my winter coat has been amazing!

Anyway, here’s a little how the weekend went.

It started with Friday night pizza. I had to work late (work is a little cuhhhhrazy right now), but it was all worth it when I got home and got to enjoy pizza night with my boys. Especially since FW ate nearly a whole slice!

Saturday morning, we walked to the nearby Farmers Market and got breakfast at a diner while we were there. There’s a diner right by where the train stop is and FW loved watching the trains go by.

He also loves it when the weather is nice 🙂

I love Farmers Market season! There were so many great flowers and plants out there.

That afternoon, after doing some chores, it was time to celebrate Cinco De Mayo AND Derby Day! B’s family hosts a big Derby party every year and this year was no different. We bet on a few horses and enjoyed watching the race.

It was such a beautiful night to be outside with his family and FW loved playing with all the kids. He may have been out a little past his bedtime … but look at that sky!

Sunday was a pretty productive day. We cleaned, cooked, meal planned and went grocery shopping. We went out to breakfast, went for a walk and even took naps. We had originally had lunch, mid-afternoon AND dinner plans but they all ended up falling through, so we ended up doing some prep for when baby #2 arrives.

Oh yea, and of course we had to watch some basketball this weekend. Go Cavs!

this was my breakfast. They ran out of yogurt so my granola and fruit were a little dry 😦

FW liked his grilled cheese and ate a few bites of his nest egg.

Is the baby’s room ready yet? No … but we’re getting there!

Some questions for you:

  • If you have kids, do you remember how far in advance you got their rooms ready?
  • How often do you do yard work? What’s your least/favorite yard chore?

I’m linking up with the weekly wraps.

Oh Hey, May

This weekend, B came home. And it stopped raining. So yeah, it was a good weekend.

B had been gone for 6 days for a work trip. And it rained for pretty much 5.76 of those days. But this weekend, FINALLY the sun came out!

I started the weekend with a treadmill run while B watched FW. I got in 8 miles while watching Bridget Jones’s Baby.

Then it was time for the Kentucky Derby party! I did have a hat that I wore but it didn’t get pictured.

That night, B and I had plans to go out for a belated anniversary celebration. We saw Something Rotten! and it was AWESOME.

We got a late dinner and drinks after the show.

Sunday morning it was FINALLY NOT RAINING, so we took a walk around downtown with FW. It was chilly and windy, but seeing the blue skies was great.

American Ninja Warrior is filming in Cleveland this week, so we stopped by the set and watched them finish setting up.

We spent the afternoon cleaning, meal prepping and watching the Cavs sweep the Raptors!

We didn’t have our usual Sunday dinner, so B made us some. He cooked us his own take on fish and chips and mushy peas and it was great!! I’d have this over traditional fish and chips any day 🙂

I ended the night catching up on work and finishing a little cleaning. After a week without B, the apartment needed some TLC 🙂

Some questions for you:

  • Do you watch American Ninja Warrior?
  • Which NBA team do you root for?

That weekend I won $2

You know the first weekend that it truly feels like spring? The air is warm, the city is buzzing and the flowers are blooming? Well – it may be May but we finally had that weekend here in Cleveland! The weather was simply perfect and we took every chance we could to enjoy it.

Friday night B and I had plans to go to a movie but 3 hours at the Verizon store got in the way … but yay for a new phone! We did at least get to go out to dinner together and enjoy some hummus, lamb shawarma and fattoush salad. Yay Aladdin’s! Seriously – perfect pre-long run food.  I also could eat hummus all day long every single day.

Saturday started off with an 11 mile run with B and Mary. We took it somewhat easy (unlike last week’s 10 mile race) and the weather was pretty perfect … sunny, 50-60s, light breeze – goooorgeous!

We didn’t end up doing much after the run – a quick trip to the grocery store, some cooking (making Buffalo Chicken Dip) and then it was time to head to B’s brother’s house for the annual Kentucky Derby Party!

My annual derby hat!

My annual derby hat!

Like my hat? I made it like 5 years ago for the first derby party and have worn it annual since. Anyway, this year I bet $1 on 5 horses (so $5) total and one of my horses won, so I won $7 (based on the party odds) – meaning I came home $2 richer. Woohoo!

It was such a gorgeous night that outside of watching the race, we spent most of it outside – such a treat!

Sunday morning started somewhat early – I wanted to get in an easy elliptical workout to loosen up my legs from the 11-miler, but had to get it in before my board meeting and event. It was the annual big event for the Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa – our scholarship banquet where we recognize high school seniors from schools in the area and celebrate them with a luncheon. It’s a great event and so wonderful to see so many young, bright minds!

Oh – and during the event, one of the parents asked what school I was going to next year. It threw me for a loop – school? I then realized he thought I was one of the high school seniors! So there’s that.

After the event, I had planned on going shopping but it was sunny and 70s and I was dying to spend the rest of the day outside. So I got home and nearly immediately B and I headed to the beach for a walk  – we weren’t the only ones! The beach and park were crowded and tons of people were there. Even a few swimmers! (70 is too cold for me to swim)

just going for a walk...love this view!

After our walk it was dinnertime. We didn’t end up going to B’s parents house for dinner but instead got Vietnamese food – it was delicious! The second we walked into Superior Pho, the smell brought me back to Vietnam. I decided to try something new – a papaya salad with pork jerky (and of course spring rolls!). It was … interesting to say the least? I enjoyed it and ate very last bite; however I think I’ll go back to my usual cabbage salads next time 🙂

All in all, a pretty good weekend. And winning $2 helped! Now, what to spend it on?

Some questions for you:

  • If you like Vietnamese food – what’s your go-to order? What’s your favorite?
  • Hummus – yay or nay? Favorite flavor? I love traditional hummus but also love cilantro hummus!
  • Did you go to a derby party? Wear a hat? Make any money?
  • Was the weather amazing where you were this weekend too?

Another Wonderful Weekend in the CLE

We had another wonderfully sunny, warm and beautiful weekend in Cleveland! Since I was out of town last weekend, I was excited for a few days of sleeping, a long run or two, and overall a relaxing weekend.

Friday night, B and I got a few invites to watch the Indian’s game or go out with friends, but we already had plans – a First Communion celebration. B’s cousin was receiving her First Communion and we were invited to the Mass and a dinner celebration after. It was great to see B’s family and we enjoyed some great food – including some homemade smoked salmon. I wish I had taken a photo – it was SO good! We got home somewhat late and since we had planned on a day full of errands and partying, for Saturday, we decided to stay in and watch up on our DVR and bake. I had my own mini Nutella bakefest – and made some awesome Peanut Butter, Nutella, Chocolate Pretzel Bars, along with some Nutella Heath Bar Rice Krispie Treats (recipe coming soon), while sipping wine. Definitely not a bad way to spend a Friday night in my opinion 🙂

Saturday morning, we woke up early to cross a few items on our to-do list – mine included running, going to the West Side Market, laundry, finishing baking and going to Kentucky Derby Party. And somehow, I got it all done!  I got in 7 miles – the first 3 by myself, and the last 4 with B. Running with B is so much better than running alone!

After our run, B and I headed to the West Side Market for some groceries and samples. I LOVE the popcorn stand there and cannot make a trip there without trying my favorite flavor, Dichotomy (a mix between caramel and cheddar) and one new one, this time the spicy jalapeno popcorn. While we  were there, I checked my phone and saw that Market Garden Brewery was offering a Kentucky Derby special – buy a mint julep and get a special official Kentucky Derby glass!

So of course we had to make a stop and try out their juleps. For the free glasses of course. And a soft pretzel.

After stopping by the Market and enjoying some afternoon drinks, I finished my baking and did some laundry, and we got ready for the Kentucky Derby Party. Each year, B’s brother and sister-in-law host a Derby Party. There is plenty of food, lots of drinks, and even a little gambling. As always, it was a fun event – and this year, I even won! I somehow guessed the 1st place winner, and even put money on #3 to come in 3rd place.

After having a few mint juleps and  Black-eyed Susans (the official drink of the Preakness), I had planned on sleeping in on Sunday.  But when B got ready to go to his Sunday morning softball games, I decided to join him and even go for a run while the team was playing. The first few miles were tough – my feet were a little tired after a week of running, but after I got warmed up, it was great. The area where B plays softball is a mixture of suburbs and parks, so it’s definitely not boring. I turned on some tunes and even turned on my MapMyRun app  for motivation. And don’t worry, I took Monday off from running so my legs got some time to relax.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty relaxing – starting a new book, catching up on emails, preparing some meals for the week, and more catching up on the DVR. Slightly boring? Maybe. A pretty perfect day? In my mind, yes.

Some questions to ponder:

  • Do you make to-do lists on your weekends?
  • Do you enjoy the occasional low-key (“boring”) weekend? Yes! Sometimes a perfect weekend for me is spending time just baking and running.
  • How did you celebrate the Kentucky Derby? Did you win any money?
  • What’s on your DVR? We have Mad Men, Happy Endings, The Mindy Project, Glee, The Voice and New Girl.
  • What’s the last thing you baked?
