Tuesdays on the Run: Step Challenge, Week 2

Week 2of my office step challenge is under way, and my team is in 3rd place. Third place! Ugh. I’ve really stepped up my mileage this week, running nearly 5 miles each day — the prize is money toward a fitbit and you know I need a new one! I’m hoping my team members are taking it as seriously as I am ..

This week’s running highlight:

A drizzly run with FW on Sunday, followed by watching the NYC marathon. As much as stroller runs are hard, it’s a nice tradition with FW if it’s not too cold out (the weather turned after the weekend and we had a cold rest of the week!). And sometimes he even falls asleep 🙂

And watching the marathon was great. I loved watching Meb and holy cow Shalane!! It was definitely emotional.

Also, this was my highest mileage week in months!! Guess that’s what being in a step challenge will do for you.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you have a Fitbit? If not, what do you have?
  • Did you watch the marathon?

Tuesdays on the Run: Step Challenge – Week 1

Well, I’m still in a running funk. BUT my mileage is up simply because I’m part of a step challenge at work that goes for another week. So, I kicked my running into gear on Wednesday (the day the challenge started), and have been running each day since. These week I almost got in 30 miles.

It’s still be hard waking up early to go run. The mornings are so dark and getting chilly – and my bed is sooo warm. I don’t remember feeling this way last winter/fall!

This week’s running highlight:

Saturday, B and me took FW on a stroller run! We went out with our niece for a few miles around a nearby lake. It was a fun time and first time I’d run with B in forever!

Some questions for you:

  • Tips for getting out of bed early? I’m definitely a morning worker-outer, but need some help!
  • What are you looking forward to most this week?

Another Rainy Weekend in the Burbs

It was another rainy weekend here in Cleveland. But we made the most of it and didn’t even stay inside the whole time!  After what felt like a long week, B and I decided to go out to dinner Friday night. We took FW to Tommy’s, a local restaurant known for their vegetarian food, meat pies AND milkshakes (I know, funny combo … but I guess it works).

I had a tempeh burger and fries (super large platter of fries not pictured).

We of course had to get one of their famous milkshakes. B and I split the amazing mocha shake. I’m not usually a milkshake lover, but this one was amazing. FW ha a sip and loved it- we had to pull it away from him!

Saturday morning we decided to out for a family run with the Bob. We picked up our niece and went for a run around the lakes.

In the afternoon, FW managed to only take a 15 minute nap — butI had plans to make brownies, so that’s what I did. They came out super chocolatey.

We brought the brownies over to Dave and Anson’s house – they just had their second baby, a beautiful girl, Mara! It’s crazy how big FW looks compared to a newborn.

That night, we grabbed takeout at one of our favorite Little Italy places, Valentino’s. I’m a fan of their pizza.

And after putting FW to bed, it was time to FINALLY watch some Stranger Things!

Sunday morning FW slept in again (until like 7:30), which was amazing. We started off the day with some French toast, made by B!

After breakfast, B got busy on some housework and FW and I went out for a run. He passed out just as we returned home, so we decided to go for a walk in the rain to Stone Oven to pick up a loaf of their bread.

When we got back, FW got to help B with some of the housework.

After running some errands, it was time to watch the NYC Marathon!

Watching Shalane win was amazing. I may have teared up when she crossed the finish. Such a great race to watch and such a great finish! And of course, Meb. Can you tell I love the race? It was a great end to my weekend!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you watch the NYC Marathon?
  • What’s your favorite dessert?

Tuesdays on the Run: Feeling in a Running Funk

Happy Halloween!  Here’s some sccarrrrry news — I’m in a little of a running funk.

I don’t know why – maybe it was the death of my Fitbit … maybe it’s the cold mornings … maybe it’s how dark it is … maybe it’s the same running routes … maybe it’s the fact that I don’t have any races in the near future … but whatever it is, I NEED to get out of it!

If you look at my mileage, below, it doesn’t paint the full picture. The funk really started on Wednesday and 3 days in a row I slept through my alarm and/or just didn’t get out of bed. And then I didn’t run all weekend, which is usually prime running time for me! Yes, the weather was cold and rainy and cruddy, but still – no runs is weird.

I’m not sure how to get out of it.

Some questions for you:

  • What do you do to get out of a running funk?
  • I’ve asked this before, but I need answers! What kind of running watch/fitness device do you have? do you like it?

Tuesdays on the Run: Feeling Good!

The theme for last week is “feeling good.” Really – I felt pretty good all week! I took it somewhat easy again with no runs lasting longer than 5 miles, took 1 day off, and even got in a day of a stroller run and a day of running with a friend. Which made for a pretty well-rounded, good week.

This week’s running highlights:

Basically we had PERFECT running weather all week! The weather was cool in the mornings but there was no need to wear layers. And then on the weekends it was 75 degrees high in the afternoon.

This made for great weather for a stroller run with FW on Sunday. We got in a little over 3 miles and despite me feeling really winded during the whole ordeal (and running 11+min/miles), I enjoyed it. AND, he fell asleep toward the end, which is always nice.

It was also pretty perfect weather for a 3.6 (must be the magic number?!) mile run with my friend Nicole on Saturday. I neglected to take a pic of the both of us, here’s a pic afterwards of just me.

It’s been great to feel good running – my piriformis pain is GONE – and while I’m still much slower than I was a few months ago, running pain free is the best.

Some questions for you:

  • How has the weather been near you for running?
  • Do run solo or with friends or a group?

Tuesdays on the Run: RIP FitBit

It was a relatively low-ish mileage week here for me. While I ran 6 of 7 days this week, I didn’t quite get in any long runs and two of them were under 3 miles. BUT I ended up with 20 miles for the week so I feel good about it!

Here is a summary:

Some highlights/lowlights:

Last week was a little abnormal in that I was traveling for work and actually had access to a gym one day! AND my Fitbit broke. For good. Like it no longer works at all…

I used the treadmill AND the elliptical. It had been YEARS it seemed since I last used an elliptical!

Some questions for you:

  • What are you wearing in terms of a fitness watch these days? I’m in the market for a new one!
  • What are you looking forward to most this week?

My Weekend – One Sentence Per Photo

Friday nights call for homemade pizza.

And cupcakes.

Saturday morning started with brunch with ladies (and avocado toast).

Afternoon walks when it is 78 degrees in the fall are the best.

Homemade pasta is my favorite.

I’m starting  to enjoy runs in the burbs.

He is my new running buddy!

He likes to help paint.

Storytime before bedtime.

Some questions for you:

  • Did you enjoy some warm weather too this weekend?
  • What’s your favorite children’s book?

Tuesdays on the Run: Finishing Up A Sick Week

Last week, you may recall, I was fighting a sick week. I had a cold-turned-sinus infection and was tired, my head hurt and it was hard to breathe. So, I took it easy a few days, did some walk/runs and slept in.

BUT, thankfully I’m feeling nearly all better and back at running!  Here is some of my mileage from last week:

The week’s running highlight?

Saturday I got in a stroller run/walk with FW while B did some work around the house. He enjoyed when we were running more so than when we were walking. AND he fell asleep just as we were finishing up.

Some questions for you:

  • Have you had a sinus infection recently? What’s your go-to remedy?
  • Are you doing any races anytime soon?

A HOT week of running

We had another HOT week in Cleveland, with temps in the 80s and even low 90s all week. It’s not the best running weather, but I was able to get out most mornings and runs before the heat really set in.

I don’t mind the heat – even though most people I know prefer fall for running, if I’m running in the morning, the warm-ish temps make it easy to figure out what to wear and just pop out of bed to run. In the winter and even some fall day, figuring out how to bundle up is half the battle!

Here’s how this week turned out:

Some of the highlights from this week:

I started off the week with a 10k race with Nicole. When Nicole lived downtown, we used to run together all the time. Now, we actually both live in the burbs, but this is the first time we’ve run together. We ended up running/walking in the heat, but it was my longest run since I had piriformis issues!

This is more of a lowlight I suppose, but I ended the week with some skinned ones.  On Saturday, I ran with Mary to our niece’s crosscountry meet. On the way there, I took a pretty good fall, twisted my ankle and skinned my knees. I’m okay, but it was a bloody mess!

Some questions for you:

  • When was the last time you fell when running?
  • What is your favorite season for running?

Weekends in the Burbs

For those of you following along, B and I are officially suburbanites. We traded in our downtown apartment for a house in the ‘burbs a month or so ago, and while we still have much to do to get it ready (including some more painting and 2 bathrooms to finish), it’s coming along.

I’m not going to lie – I miss our easy downtown apartment living. Being able to walk to the grocery store (and well, everywhere, including work) was amazing, and having 2 full working bathrooms were something I took advantage of. That being said, life in the ‘burbs isn’t that bad, especially when you have some fun AND relaxing weekends like the one we just had.

Friday night we had a parent meeting at daycare, so we didn’t get home until after 7. BUT, I was able to go running around the local lakes earlier in the day, which led to this beautiful view.

For dinner, we had Indian takeout, which was delicious.

AND this delicious ice cream.

Saturday morning started with a run with my sister-in-law Mary. We ran to our niece’s cross country meet and got to watch her run. I unfortunately took a fall during the run and bloodied up my knees … but my niece ran her 1.5 mi pretty well in the hot weather!

blurry bloody pic 🙂

Saturday afternoon we hung out for a bit with our friends Joey and Lulu and cleaned up / worked on the house for a little. Which of course included some snoozing.

For dinner, we had plans to invite friends Sarah and Bobby over for homemade pizza that B made. After pizza, we put FW to bed, and enjoyed hanging out on the front porch drinking beers. Having a porch and being able to sit outside is definitely a perk of our new house.

Sunday morning started with a walk to a local bakery for breakfast. It was another hot morning, but felt good to be outside and walking! I decided to take the day off of running since I hadn’t taken a day off in more than a week.

After our walk, we had lunch plans with Dave and Anson who wanted to see the new house. They brought us Aladdin’s, some of my favorite Lebanese food! Then, their daughter, Celia, and FW played for a bit.

That night, we had plans with B’s family to celebrate some birthdays. Not only had B had a birthday since we last got together, but out of all the people who were at dinner, 6 people had had birthdays since August!

And that was it for our weekend.

Some questions for you:

  • Did you spend some time outside this weekend?
  • Do you like Lebanese food?
