Three Weekends In One

What a weekend.  It was fun, tiring and a whirlwind of activity.  I need a weekend to recover I think!

If I had to sum up my weekend, I’d say it was like 3 weekends in one. I feel like I had enough going on to fill three weekends – and it was great!

The weekend started Friday night, with a dinner date and comedy show. B and had tickets to a 9:30 show (late for 8 month pregnant me) to see one of our favorite comica, Sebastian Maniscalco. We started off with a late dinner at Cowell & Hubbard, splitting cheese and a few appetizers.

And then the show. We’ve seen Sebastian several times throughout the years at Hilarities, but he has gotten bigger now (he was even on Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee) and even though he was playing at a different, bigger venue, we almost didn’t get tickets in time!

Saturday morning started early with a 5 am alarm- B and I were headed to the airport to fly to Boston for the day to celebrate our anniversary! It was a great, but quick trip and we were able to get in a lot of walking (nearly 30,000 steps) and see many of our old favorite places (we met in Boston in college). From Beacon Hill to the Boston Common to the Public Gardens to Newbury Street to Faneuil Hall to Fenway to the Isabella Gardner Museum, I’d say we hit nearly everything.

We even got in a celebrity sighting- we were told we couldn’t post photos on social media but I did share info to my Snapchat story (@koskim). Here’s a hint- he was promoting Walhburgers and his name rhymes with Bark 🙂

We ended the day with a great Italian meal in the North End, complete with cannoli, tiramisu and coffee of course.

Sunday started early again- we had to fly back to Cleveland first thing, as I was emceeing a board event Sunday at lunch time. I’m the Vice President of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Cleveland, and Sunday was our annual scholarship banquet. I had the pleasure of speaking and announcing the names of all the student award recipients. Brought me back to my days of high school awards events!

We finally made it home Sunday evening and I am so grateful for B who could tell I was pooped and volunteered to make dinner. I was so worn out that even after 3 nights out, he could have convinced me to order pizza….shh don’t tell him I said that!

And that was my weekend. Not relaxing in the least, but fun.

Some questions for you:

  1. Do you tend to have good or bad flight karma?
  2. Do you have a favorite comedian?
  3. Have you ever been to Boston?

I’m linking up today with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

An uneventful weekend (coffee shop hopping)

It was a pretty uneventful weekend for me in Cleveland. The weekend consisted of dinner with friends, baby registry, running, working, crafting, running, working, board meetings and that’s about it. See? Do you really need to see what that looks like?

Well, in case you do, here it is.

B made dinner Friday night for our friends Dave and Anson and their baby girl. We had our own Friday fish fry dinner and it was delicious. They came over to help with our registry – and you know how fun that is! (sorry, registering for baby stuff is less-than-fun for me :))

But dinner was great. Mashed cauliflower, scallops and asparagus.

Saturday morning started out with a run. Even though it’s now official spring (yay!) I woke up to 30 degree temps. Still, I made it outside for a 4.5ish mile run. I definitely am showing in my running clothes now!

After the run, I had some work to catch up on so I hit up a coffee shop, The Gypsy Bean (Coffee Shop #1). This one shop has one of my favorite sandwiches – open faced hummus – and I had that with their quinoa tabbouleh. SO GOOD.

Then it was time for Ladies Craft Beer Society! This month’s “craft” was making homemade cleaning supplies. We had an Irish/St. Patrick’s Day theme, so there was also boozy shamrock shakes (I had a sip of one – they were delish!).20160319_161611

And plenty of treats – some orange chocolate chip scones, as well as pull-apart reuben bread.20160319_163413

I brought cupcakes 🙂

Saturday night was uneventful. I caught up on some college basketball (my bracket isn’t doing so well) and started watching a movie with B before falling asleep. We watched a documentary about the Barkley Marathon – these people are insane! And it’s sooo cool.

Sunday morning included some indoor miles before getting in some more work.

Another day, another coffee shop to catch up on work. This time, my favorite tea at Phoenix Coffee.

After catching up on some work, I had a board meeting to head to. I’m on the executive committee of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Cleveland, and we had our planning meeting on Sunday.

And then it was time for Sunday dinner. Since I have to get some blood testing done at the doctor tomorrow, I had to stay away from the pasta and dessert 😦 At least the salmon and salad was delicious!

And that was my weekend! I’m linking up today with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your go-to all purpose cleaning supply?
  • If you have to catch up on work, where do you prefer to go – the office? Coffee shop? Your home?

That weekend I won $2

You know the first weekend that it truly feels like spring? The air is warm, the city is buzzing and the flowers are blooming? Well – it may be May but we finally had that weekend here in Cleveland! The weather was simply perfect and we took every chance we could to enjoy it.

Friday night B and I had plans to go to a movie but 3 hours at the Verizon store got in the way … but yay for a new phone! We did at least get to go out to dinner together and enjoy some hummus, lamb shawarma and fattoush salad. Yay Aladdin’s! Seriously – perfect pre-long run food.  I also could eat hummus all day long every single day.

Saturday started off with an 11 mile run with B and Mary. We took it somewhat easy (unlike last week’s 10 mile race) and the weather was pretty perfect … sunny, 50-60s, light breeze – goooorgeous!

finishing up strong-11 miles done!

We didn’t end up doing much after the run – a quick trip to the grocery store, some cooking (making Buffalo Chicken Dip) and then it was time to head to B’s brother’s house for the annual Kentucky Derby Party!

My annual derby hat!

My annual derby hat!

Like my hat? I made it like 5 years ago for the first derby party and have worn it annual since. Anyway, this year I bet $1 on 5 horses (so $5) total and one of my horses won, so I won $7 (based on the party odds) – meaning I came home $2 richer. Woohoo!

So. Much. Food. And so much not pictured.

It was such a gorgeous night that outside of watching the race, we spent most of it outside – such a treat!

Sunday morning started somewhat early – I wanted to get in an easy elliptical workout to loosen up my legs from the 11-miler, but had to get it in before my board meeting and event. It was the annual big event for the Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa – our scholarship banquet where we recognize high school seniors from schools in the area and celebrate them with a luncheon. It’s a great event and so wonderful to see so many young, bright minds!

Oh – and during the event, one of the parents asked what school I was going to next year. It threw me for a loop – school? I then realized he thought I was one of the high school seniors! So there’s that.

After the event, I had planned on going shopping but it was sunny and 70s and I was dying to spend the rest of the day outside. So I got home and nearly immediately B and I headed to the beach for a walk  – we weren’t the only ones! The beach and park were crowded and tons of people were there. Even a few swimmers! (70 is too cold for me to swim)

just going for a walk...love this view!

After our walk it was dinnertime. We didn’t end up going to B’s parents house for dinner but instead got Vietnamese food – it was delicious! The second we walked into Superior Pho, the smell brought me back to Vietnam. I decided to try something new – a papaya salad with pork jerky (and of course spring rolls!). It was … interesting to say the least? I enjoyed it and ate very last bite; however I think I’ll go back to my usual cabbage salads next time 🙂

All in all, a pretty good weekend. And winning $2 helped! Now, what to spend it on?

Some questions for you:

  • If you like Vietnamese food – what’s your go-to order? What’s your favorite?
  • Hummus – yay or nay? Favorite flavor? I love traditional hummus but also love cilantro hummus!
  • Did you go to a derby party? Wear a hat? Make any money?
  • Was the weather amazing where you were this weekend too?
