Training Tuesday: It’s Race Week!

YOU GUYS- IT’S HERE. Cleveland Marathon Race Week!

Eep.

In the words of Jessie Spano, I’m so excited…I’m so excited… I’m so..I’m so.. Scared?!

I’ve never been scared by a 10k before. No, typically this time of year I’m ready to run the half marathon or even gasp (once, sorta) the marathon. But this year, things are different. I’m doing the 5k 10k Challenge series.

In case you’re new to the blog or living under a rock, I’m pretty pretty pregnant. So needless to say, running has been a little … interesting?

How I think I look running:

How I actually look:

This past week, my runs have included runs/walks with me stopping for 1 (or 2) bathroom breaks. Stopping because of a cramp. Or Braxton Hicks. Or just because my legs are darn tired and my uterus hurts.

That being said, I did get in some miles – and even if I’m not in the best physical shape of my life right now, I am so emotionally ready for race weekend where I’ll be attempting to run the 5k and 10k Challenge Series.

Week of May 1: 15.23 miles – lowest week. ever. but i don’t care – almost race day!

Sunday: 0 miles!

B and I were in Boston, then flew back and I emceed a banquet, and we didn’t get home home until around 5 p.m. where I was too exhausted to even complete making dinner. So no runs.

Tuesday: 3.53 miles outside plus walking cooldown

Run with two walking breaks with a running buddy! It only took me 8 months, but I finally ran with another friend who lives downtown. I felt bad that we were going so slow, I wasn’t really able to talk and keep up the pace- but we did it!

Wednesday: 4.11 miles outside plus .5 walking cooldown inside

Run with B! This one did not start well – I made B change our route about a mile in because the baby was pushing on my bladder waaay too much and I wasn’t sure if I’d need a bathroom break. Felt better a few miles and a walking breaks in but still stopped for a quick pit stop.

pregnant runner

Thursday: elliptical
Somehow slept through my alarm- but managed it in about 55 minutes on the elliptical. At least I finally got some sleep!

Friday: 5.5 miles- 4.5 run outside with a little walk and 1 mile cooldown inside

Another run with Erica! We had to stop and walk only once, but I did stop and take this photo. It was just a gorgeous morning!

20160506_070003

Saturday: no run, just a walk with Jane. We walked to Ohio City and around the area, getting in about 10,000 steps.

Some questions for you:

  • Is the weather getting nicer where you are (finally)?
  • Do you get nervous during a race week?

Training Tuesday: The countdown until race weekend begins

Holy moly, where did the time go?! I can’t believe it’s MAY which means it’s almost Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon race weekend! 11 days left…

I didn’t have the best week when you look at the mileage but it was pretty good considering I was BUSY. I was out of town Tuesday and Wednesday for work, I had late meetings Monday and Thursday (not home until after 8) and then was traveling again Saturday for fun – B and I went to Boston for a quick day trip for our anniversary! So, while the miles weren’t there it wasn’t ALL bad.

The weather was great most of the week, too 🙂 I got in three outdoor runs BEFORE work!

Week of 4/24: 19.25 miles

Sunday: 4 miles: OUTSIDE @ 9:50ish pace

20160424_103905

obligatory post-run BUMP pic

B and I got outside Sunday morning for a short run. I was determined to do 4 miles and really wanted sub/10 minute miles. So, on paper – yes! Check – we did it. BUT at like mile 1.25 I got a weird cramp/pain and we had to walk for a few minutes. I stopped the watch, mileage, timer, etc. at this point so it’s not showing up in the number – but I was still feeling somewhat off the rest of the run. I was struggling to keep up the pace and my heart rate was well into the 150s and almost 160 at one point (since pregnant I try to keep it in the 150s at max and on easy runs low 150s upper 140s). I may have been overdressed/overheating – I was really warm most of the time and have to keep this mind as the weather continues to get warm in the coming weeks up until race day.

Monday: 4.44 miles outside plus 1 mile walk

I finally got up the courage to run with one of my old running buddies, Erica. I hadn’t been very outgoing about running with her, because I’m much slower and get out of breath easily. But it wasn’t bad! I’m grateful she was wanting to run with me, and didn’t mind me slowing her down. Plus it made me get out of bed and outside!

Tuesday: elliptical and 1.55 mi walk

I was feeling a little off from Monday’s run, and decided to take it easy. 53ish minutes on the elliptical and a slow treadmill walk to get in some steps and movement before a work trip and a few hours in the car.

Wednesday: 4 miles and 30 min elliptical

I was traveling for work but still made it outside for a chilly run/walk despite a night of insomnia. Another hard run for me with lots of walking but this time I stopped the timer when walking so I’d know my actually pace and mileage for the run. I started to finally feel almost good as I got close to finishing- figures! Finished with some elliptical in the gym. And stretching.

Thursday: 2 miles run/walk on the treadmill and 50 minutes elliptical

I reaaaaallly did not want to get out of bed. After another not great night of sleep, I longed for more sleep. But I knew I’d be working until 8, and the thought of a 12 + hour day with no workout was more motivating to me than the thought of sleep, so I got up. 1 slow mile, then 1 walk run, then elliptical.

Friday: 4.7 – 4.2 miles run plus .5 walk

I was tired Friday and had no motivation the get in a run. But the night before, I had asked B if he’d run in the morning with me, and he had said he would. So, when the alarm went off and I saw there was a slight drizzle, I was hoping B would decide not to and I could just be lazy on the elliptical. No such case. He motivated me to get outside and we finished 4.2 miles. I did stop a few times- bathroom break and for photos, but it was the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

Saturday: 0 miles run but 29,000+ steps!

B had surprised me with a trip to Boston for our anniversary! We met one another in Boston so it’s a place with special meaning to us. Our flight out was early so we could spend the whole day there so we didn’t get in any runs ( I knew we wouldn’t) but as you can sleep see, we got in a LOT of walking! My feet were sore!

So many steps! (and yes, just a little sleep)

And that was my week running wise. Just one more week until the race and I’m hoping I can make it for the 5k and 10k still. If you haven’t signed up for am event- there’s still time! Can’t run? Love the crowds? Love helping out? We need you! Sign up here!

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your next race you’ve signed up for?
  • What’s your typical running scenery like – cityscape? ‘burbs? Country?

Training Tuesday: Suddenly 8 Months Pregnant

I kind of feel like I suddenly became super pregnant. Like overnight. I know – it didn’t happen overnight …. I’ve been pregnant for several months. But it feels like I am suddenly super pregnant and not only looking it, but feeling it. Especially when running.

I’m going to be straight with you – my runs this week weren’t easy. Sunday’s felt good, but after that, I was sore for a few days. I can no longer do an “easy” 5 mile run – my body hurts for a few days, including my legs and feet.  And half of my runs are very slow. BUT I’m trying to keep it up – less than one month until Cleveland Marathon race weekend!! On a positive note – I got in three outdoor runs this week! Running outside makes me SO much happier, even when I’m not feeling good.

Week of 4/17/16: 23.05 Miles

Sunday: 5.6 miles outside!

I had not run outside in FOREVER, and B was able to run with me, so we made our way to the local metroparks. I wasn’t planning on running more than 4ish miles but was feeling great. This was really the only run I felt great the entire week.

Screenshot_20160417-121528 20160417_114700

Monday: 5 miles running

Another run outside! I’m not going to say that it was easy- these days if I run 4 or 5 miles, my legs are sore for a few days after and I was still sore from Sunday’s run. But I woke up thinking about those running the Boston Marathon, and saw the weather was pretty much perfect for a run, so I got outside and did it anyway.

see that bump!

see that bump!

not a great run, but look at that sunset!

not a great run, but look at that sunrise!

Tuesday: 1.25 miles and elliptical

Oneish miles on the treadmill and some time on the elliptical to loosen my legs from Sunday and Monday running.

Wednesday: 4.25 miles

Run & walk on the treadmill. Lots of walking but still managed to get in the 12 minute mile pace overall. Also had time for 25 minutes on the elliptical to continue to loosen up my legs. Yup, legs and feet are still sore!

Thursday: 1.25 mi walk jog

A little jog and 53 minutes on the elliptical.

Friday: 5.2 miles outside

I check the weather a head of time, and it was due to be 60 degrees when I woke up. I decided that no matter what, I would get outside and run. Luckily, B said that he would run with me the night before , so that helped motivate me. This run was not easy. My lower legs and feet hurt. I felt my bladder the entire time and had to mentally remind myself that I didn’t have to pee. We did a few hills and I stopped in the middle of one. We stopped to take a photo at another point. B did not want to be up early and runnng and made it clear. But- we finished. And I was definitely looking forward to an off day on Saturday!

20160422_070742

Saturday: 0 miles

Saturday B and I had our birthing class which was ALL day, and we had no time to get out and run. I had already planned on taking the day off after Friday’s early and somewhat painful run, so it worked out perfectly. Plus, I had 23+ miles, which was more than I’d had in quite a while.

SO B and I decided to take a walk during our class lunch break and then again after the class. It started out chilly but ended up bright and sunny in the afternoon!

Some questions for you:

  • Does the warmer weather make you more prone to running outside, too?
  • Do you stop and snap photos during your runs too? Or use photos as an excuse to stop?

Training Tuesday: 8 months pregnant

It has been two weeks since I last updated you on my Cleveland Marathon Event (I’m doing the 5k/10k challenge series) training and I have two thoughts and reasons for that:

Running is getting much harder. As I just reach 8 months of being pregnant (disclosure- there are 10 months of pregnancy), I’m feeling the struggles that I heard other runners share with me, especially, er, bladder issues (it always feels like have to pee!), breathing issues (it’s so much harder for me to catch my breath) and overall I’m just heavier and it’s harder on my body.

I’m still doing it! I didn’t have a good few weeks in terms of miles. I’m running fewer amd fewer days each week ane since the weather took a turn for the worse the first week with snow and ice, I was stuck on the treadmill, which is harder on me mentally to get in the miles. But did i ger some in? Yes. Did I walk more? Yes. But I’m still happy I’m keeping up with it.

SO, needless to say, I wasn’t motivated to share the week of April 3’s training at first. I got in fewer miles than I typically do AND I wasn’t feeling good. BUT we’re less than ONE MONTH AWAY from the Cleveland Marathon and I’m keeping it up and ready to share!

Week of April 3: 17.4 miles

Sunday: 5.75 miles.

I woke up to a slight dusting of snow on the ground and decided to play it safe and not head outside. I probably should’ve gone outside- later in the afternoon I noticed it really wasn’t as slippery as I thought it was, but I’m just overcautious about slipping while pregnant.

Anyway, instead I hit the treadmill. I got in 3.25 miles running, and then decided to walk/run the rest while watching Bosch. Have you seen that Amazon show?

Monday: 1 mile and 45 min elliptical

I somehow managed to sleep through my alarm! Still ended up getting to the gym with a little bit of time. Tried running, legs weren’t feeling it so I hit up the elliptical.

Tuesday: 3.1 miles and 33 mi elliptical

Today’s run brought to you by one word, ouch! My feet were definitely hurting during the rotten. Not sure what’s making them so, but it meant I walked and ran the 5K.

Wednesday: 5.55 m

Finally feeling better somewhat, which is ironic since last night gave me little to no sleep. I think I finally experienced that pregnancy heartburn and it kept me up most of the night. Managed to get out of bed and hit the treadmill for 55 min, which today gave me 5.55 miles, jogging 5.27 of them – the whole time. Finished with 23 min on the elliptical.

Thursday: 1 mile

Not feeling it – lack of sleep may be catching up on me. Managed to do 1 mile and then mostly the elliptical. Finished with some kettlebells.

Friday: 1.25 miles

I just couldn’t run. I got on the treadmill and my feet hurt. My legs hurt. My whole body was not having it. Thanks to insomnia? Maybe … so I got on the elliptical instead.

Saturday: true rest day! No elliptical or anything.

Weekly total- around 17-18. My lowest week yet!

20160407_080002

I had so few pictures for this post and I was curious how I looked running now, so I took a selfie with the timer while I was on the treadmill. Not too bad – but pretty funny to see!

Week of April 10: 20.15 miles (yay for back in the 20s!!)

Sunday: 5.25 miles run and walk on the treadmill.
Unfortunately I really wasn’t feeling it today. Woke up to temperatures in the low 20’s and below, so I just decided to try the treadmill again. Lots of walking, but got it done. And there was snow on the ground and I was scared of slipping, etc. Pretty to look at, but not so fun to run in in APRIL.

SNOW!

SNOW!

Monday: 3.56 miles

Run/walk and then elliptical. Ran 2ish miles then walk/ran the rest.

Tuesday: 3.6 miles then elliptical

Another run/walk on the treadmill and then the elliptical. A little slower than yesterday and feet still a little sore. Added in some kettlebells too.

Wednesday: 0 miles- 1 hr on the elliptical instead

Thursday: 5 miles jog (very little walking) and 1.35 miles walk
5 miles running with a few short stops and walking. After another insomnia night, so grateful to be able to still hop on the treadmill and see where it takes me. I ran 3.25 miles, stopped and got some water, and then ran the rest without stopping again.

20160414_065607

Friday: 1.26 miles, mostly walking

55 min elliptical and a short walk/jog.
Saturday: 0 miles running but a LOT of walking – 20k+ steps

My mom was in town, so we did a LOT of walking. The weather started out chilly and we walked about 4-5 miles around Ohio City and did some shopping. It warmed up and we got in a few more walks amidst what we were doing for the day, and I ended up with about 21,000 steps! My feet were a little sore even after not running.

momma and I before our walk!

momma and I before our walk!

Weekly total: Just over 20 miles!

  • How did your workouts go this week?
  • How many steps do you get in a day on average?

Training Tuesday: Third Trimester Training

The name of this blog post is definitely a tongue twister! Try saying that ten times fast – Training Tuesday Third Trimester Training. Ha! It’s probably easier for me to say that than actually running at this point 🙂 It’s getting harder and harder! But here we go – here was what last week looked like:

Week of 3/27: 22.23 miles running/walking

Sunday: 5.25 miles. OUTSIDE!

Before Easter Mass, B and I got outside for a slow and hilly run. My legs were not feeling it and I did stop midway through one hill for a second, but we still managed to finish (at least according to my GPS) at just under 10 min/miles pace (B’s Garmin said something different – but I’m going with mine :)) I overdressed, but wasn’t too hot.

20160327_083724

Monday: 2.65 miles

These treadmill miles were not as good and slow. Ended up only having about a half hour or so before an early doctor’s appointment / glucose test. But happy to get them in. AND even happier to have passed my test!

Tuesday: 1.5 mile walk and 55 min elliptical

Body and legs were tired today, so I opted to take the day off from running. Still got in some steps- my fitbit definitely motivates me!

Wednesday: 6.5 miles run and walk.

Wasn’t feeling too bad but still much walking. Indoors on the treadmill – mixed it up with walking and jogging while watching Bosch on Amazon.

Thursday: 2.5

2.5 slow miles on the treadmill and 45 min elliptical. Rainy morning, but probably should’ve just sucked it up and went outside- the gym was steamy!

Not feeling it again.

Friday: 5.36 miles OUTSIDE.

Screenshot_2016-04-01-07-39-16

I had looked at the ten day forecast and saw that Friday a.m. was going to be in the 50s before work – unlike any other day in the forecast. So, I pulled myself out of bed and went for a run in the dark. I don’t know why, but during my pregnancy I’ve had such a hard time doing this, so this was a victory for me. AND my pace was much faster than I was expecting! I stopped a few times but overall it was a good run and BEAUTIFUL morning!

20160401_065516

stopped to catch my breath before a hill take this picture .

Saturday: No running miles, but about a 4 mile walk with B.

I wanted to rest my legs somewhat, but still get moving – so B and I walked to the West Side Market to get our shopping done and around the neighborhood and back. It was chilly and windy but gorgeous blue skies!

20160402_123936

I’m happy to share that it was another 20+ mile week for me. Not quite as many miles as I’m used to getting at this time of the year (I’m usually at the peak of my training!), and definitely not easy, but STILL getting them in – and that’s a victory for me!

Questions for you:

  • Any pregnant runners/mamas out there – how far along into your pregnancy did you run?
  • Did you run outside this week?

2016-Cleveland-Marathon-Badge-Large--FB

Training Tuesday: Outside Again!

You GUYS – I ran outside 3.5 times last week!!! That is 3.5 more times than I’ve been running. And it makes me so happy!!!

ok this picture was from LAST week but it's me at the Malachi run and another outside run!

ok this picture was from LAST week but it’s me at the Malachi run and another outside run!

Anyway, here’s a little recap of how last week’s runs went:

Week of 3/13: 21.59 miles running/walking

Sunday: 0 miles

Took the day off after the Malachi Church Run.

Monday: 6.17 miles total – run in the AM AND PM.

I wasn’t planning on running in the AM that day, but for some reason I couldn’t sleep. I woke up at 3 a.m. and was unable to get back to bed, so after cleaning my closet and semi cleaning the kitchen, I opted to head outside in the 50 degree (near perfect running temps) and get in about 2 miles before hitting the gym. And then that night was the Cleveland Marathon Fleet Feet Pub Run – an event I had already planned on attending – so there were another 3.8 miles run outside with tons of other runners, including B and Mary, for free beer! (I obviously didn’t partake in the beer)

20160314_183504

pre-pub run with Mary. Look at all those people in the background!

Tuesday: no run, just elliptical. My feet were hurting and legs were tired.

Wednesday: 1.3 miles before the elliptical. Tired legs AGAIN.

Thursday: 4.62 miles. OUTSIDE before work!

It’s not often I get an outdoor run in, but I was happy to get in a run before St. Patrick’s Day. I was planning on running around downtown and seeing if people were out and about – and they already were!

20160317_070148

Had to stop and take a picture of the Terminal Tower all green for the day! (and a great excuse to stop mid-run)

Friday: 5 miles walk and run.

I decided to run for time and not for distance today. It’s something I’m not good at doing and I wanted to walk/run on the treadmill. So I focused on just keeping up the workout and varied on my speeds.

Saturday: 4.5 miles OUTSIDE again!

20160319_112924

And that was it! Another so-so week of running – but a great week of pregnancy runs in my book for this Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Ambassador. Woop woop!

Some questions for you:

  • What Amazon Prime videos or TV shows are you digging that I should watch while running?
  • Do you prefer running in the a.m. or p.m.? AM. Always. I hate and hardly ever run after work unless I have an event (like the pub run).

Training Tuesday: A Pretty Good Week

What a great running week! Not really because of the runs (though I did have some pretty good ones) but because of the fun and social aspect of it. Woohoo! Wednesday was the Cleveland Rite Aid Ambassador Meetup and I got to meet some new ambassadors and catch up with some of the ones I know and love from past years. It was so great to see everyone – it was like one big happy family reunion!

Look at this onesie Melissa gave me!!!!

The weather was great most of the week, too 🙂 I got in two outdoor runs BEFORE work!

Also, Saturday was the Malachi 5 miler. Another great weather day and a relatively fast run for me and the hilly course. 3 outdoor runs in 1 week? That’s a first all winter! Anyway, here I go. Let me get to the week.

Week of 3/6: 22.54 miles

Sunday: 5.14 miles: OUTSIDE @ 9:30 pace

I hadn’t run Friday or Saturday, and after two days off, I guess I was feeling alright! I was really surprised by my pace – I’ve been doing 5.8 mph on the treadmill (so close to 10:20 miles) and wasn’t sure I could do 5 miles but I kept it up and felt great toward the end. As usual, first two miles or so were the roughest but after that the bladder pain/pressure went away and I just took the next 3 pretty easy, stopping just a few times to take a photos, at lights, etc. Wanted to prove to my pregnant self that I could do 5 miles before next weekend’s race – and I did it!

Monday: 4 miles

Run/walk on the treadmill on some tired legs. Funny how only 5 miles can make me tired these days. Woof. No pace written down because it was a run/walk heavy on the SLOW run and walk.

Tuesday: 4.18 miles OUTSIDE @ 9:40 pace

It was my first pre-work run outside in who knows … months? It was warm enough for shorts and semi light out (before daylight savings time change) – I had to take advantage of it. Even got in a few hills and some stairs, ouch!

20160308_075044

Look at how pretty the sky was!

See the bump?

See the bump?

Wednesday: 4.26 miles

I got in another outdoors pre-work outdoor run! So happy to have 60 degrees and beautiful weather. The legs were not feeling great, but emotionally I was happy to be outside. AND happy to be seeing my Cleveland Marathon Ambassadors that night!

Thursday and Friday: Long elliptical days. 1 hour and change on the machine and a little walking.

With the race on Saturday and legs still somewhat tired, I wanted to make sure I took a few days off from running.

Saturday: St. Malachi Church Run – 5 mile race

Woo! I had such a good time during this race. Was I as fast as last year? Hellllll no (I was 1:05 min/mile slower in case you were wondering). Was the weather gorgeous? Yes. Did I even enjoy the run? Most of the time, yes! I finished at 46:43 and am darn proud of it. B ran with me the entire time and kept me company AND I only felt like I had to pee part of the time.

20160312_093716

ready to run!

See – what a good running week! I have a lot going on this week, so I’m not sure I can keep it up – but I’ll try to get in a few runs and maybe get outside for one. Who knows – maybe spring is REALLY on its way!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you do a St. Patrick’s Day themed run?
  • Does the warmer weather make you more prone to running outside, too?

Training Tuesday: Fewer Miles, Bigger Bump

I FINALLY signed up for the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon! No, not the full marathon, but the challenge series. Since I’ll be about 35 weeks pregnant during the race, I have opted not to do the full or half, but instead I signed up for the 5k 10k program.

I’m so excited about the Challenge Series this year! They just shared the pretty sweet medal too – take a look. And don’t forget to sign up this week!

Screenshot 2016-03-08 14.33.34

Last week’s training:

Week of 2/28: 20.7 miles

Sunday: 3.6 miles: OUTSIDE!

I convinced B to get in a few short miles outside. I’d been out of town, traveling for work and was tired BUT the weather was going to be in the 50s and I really wanted to get in a run before my niece’s first communion.

Screenshot_2016-02-28-09-33-17

This was a super speedy run for me these days. I haven’t seen sub-10 minute miles on the treadmill lately, so being outside it was nice to get in some faster miles.

Monday: 4.6 miles.

I ran 2.25, walked some, then ran some again. Was tired!

Tuesday: 4 miles.

Another indoor run/walk on the treadmill before the elliptical.

Wednesday: 2 miles walk/run on the treadmill

Thursday: 6.5 miles

Finally felt pretty good on the treadmill. Ran slow for me (5.8 mph pace) but was able to keep it up and not walk except for about .5 miles of the entire workout. Woohoo!

Friday AND Saturday: 0 miles

I know, it’s not like me to take two days off, but my legs were SO tired. So I took two days off from running (meaning I did the elliptical or only went for a walk – don’t worry, I still got in 12,000+ steps and a workout) and hoped that Sunday I’d be able to run a little more (spoiler- I did!).

All in all, not a bad week. Fewer miles than usual, but still happy to be out there. Bump and all – as you can see, it’s out!

20160228_090854(0)

Anyway, if you haven’t signed up, don’t forget to do so soon AND enter to win my co-ambassador’s giveaway. This week Jamie is giving away a free entry via her blog!

Questions for you:

  • Any locals running the Malachi 5 miler this weekend? I am – hopefully!
  • Have you ever done a race with a Challenge Series – two days and two races?

Training Tuesday: Still Running (6 months pregnant!)

It has been two weeks since I last updated you on my training and I have two thoughts to share:

Running is getting much harder. At 6 months pregnant, I’m feeling the pain that I heard other runners share with me, especially, er, bladder issues (it always feels like have to pee!) and breathing issues (it’s so much harder for me to catch my breath).

I’m still doing it! I had another good few weeks in terms of miles. Were they easy runs? No. Were they a lot slower than my usual runs? Yes. Did I walk some? Yes. But I’m still happy I’m keeping up with it.

Onto my weeks.

Week of 2/14: 24.55 miles running/walking

Sunday: 3.6 miles.

My parents were in town and I had about 30ish minutes to kill before seeing them, so B convinced me to hop on the treadmill for a quick run. This was my best feeling and fastest treadmill run in weeks!

Monday: 4 miles.

These treadmill miles were not as good and slow. But happy to get them in.

Tuesday: 6.2 miles run plus 1 mile walk

Another pretty good run day! I ran a little faster than I have been and after the first 2 rough miles, I felt relatively good and kept it up. I had no plan on how far to run and that helped – I kept telling myself to go a little further, a little further, etc. and then before I knew it I told myself I could do a 10k. And I did!

Wednesday: 2.25 miles walk/run

Wasn’t feeling it. Ended up doing the elliptical after giving up around 2.25 miles.

Thursday: 3.25 miles

Not feeling it again.

Friday: 0 miles.

I just couldn’t run. I got on the treadmill and my feet hurt. My legs hurt. My whole body was not able to run more than a few tenths of a mile – so I got on the elliptical instead.

Saturday: 4.25 miles OUTSIDE!

Monday: 2.1 miles

Run then elliptical.

Tuesday: 6.2 miles

10k on the treadmill! First 2 were the worst and then I kept it up and finished. No breaks except at 5.75 to tie my shoe quickly. Which is progress for today- 23 weeks.

Wednesday: 4 miles

Thursday: 0 miles

Had about 4 hours of sleep after driving to Philadelphia for work conference and not getting in until after 3 a.m. I had plans to run, but spent the whole day in a haze. Being pregnant makes me tired. Being pregnant and not getting any sleep makes me even more tired.

Friday: 5.5 miles run/walk

Testing out the hotel gym before my conference. Managed to get in 5.5 miles somehow.

Saturday: 4.5 miles run/walk

Another tired run and little sleep the night before. Up late at the conference, but managed to get the tired legs to move.

All in all, not a bad two weeks. If I can keep this up another 4 months, I’ll be happy!

Questions for you:

  • How did your workouts go this week?
  • Do you have any races coming up? I signed up for the St. Malachi Church Run. It’s a 5 miler, and I’m hoping I can do it!
AND as an ambassador for the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, I’d be remiss not to remind you to sign up for the race! Haven’t signed up yet? My co-ambassador Debi is giving away an entry this week- enter here!

Training Tuesday: Pregnancy Running Ramblings

I’m SO thrilled to finally be sharing with you some of my updates as I run through my pregnancy. The past few weeks, I’ve been keeping it hush hush and haven’t been able to share with you as openly as possible as I would’ve liked about my training as an ambassador for the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon,

Running while pregnant – thoughts at 6 months/how I’m feeling*:

*if you don’t care about pregnancy running OR don’t want TMI, stop reading 🙂

I’m sad not to be running the half marathon this year as I’ve done for several years before. But, my doctor (and some running friends) have advised me that it’s not the best idea for me to run 13.1 miles at 30something weeks. I’m not an elite runner. I don’t have the body (especially now!) of a runner. I get it – it already is somewhat uncomfortable to run. That being said, it’s still disappointing and I miss having my training schedule and long runs in there as well.

I’m a lot slower than I was a few months ago. I could bang out a few miles in the 8-something pace if I tried, and was getting faster thanks to speed workouts. I could do a long run (10 miles) at 9:07 pace semi-easily. Now, I can barely break 10 minute miles, especially on the treadmill. It’s harder to breathe, my bladder aches and I have to stop a few times to catch my breathe. My resting heart rate is more than 10 beats/minute higher (thanks to my FitBit, I know this!) and I’m out of breath walking up stairs sometimes.

Not that it’s all bad – I’m feeling glad that I’m still running! Some days are easier than others. Some days are a lot HARDER than others. But I have to remember to be grateful that I’m still running and remind myself that I’m running for two. Or whatever that means 🙂

Some questions for you:

  • Moms or moms-to-be – did you run throughout your pregnancy? Any tips? How long did you run until?
  • Locals – have you signed up for the CLE Marathon series yet?
  • Anyone – what’s your next race?
