WIAW: All By Myselffffff

Okay the title is a little bit of a misnomer. But here are some eats for last Thursday, when I ate all of my meals – that’s right – by myself. Okay, not REALLY by myself – this guy joined me .. but I was the only adult at each meal I ate for the first time in a while. So here is what I ended up eating for today’s  What I Ate Wednesday!

For breakfast, B and I got smoothies at Restore. I know- I said I ate alone. But I did – I ate it while BF’ing FW. We also got coffees –  my iced coffee from Phoenix was delicious – but it took me about 3 days to drink it …

Snacks during the morning mostly included grapes. A whole lotta grapes. Only a few are pictured here.20160811_121756

I had lunch while FW was napping and made myself some egg whites and cheese with leftovers from dinner – sweet potato, zucchini and pepper hash. It was delicious – and again, eaten alone.20160811_132538

I had plans to meet up with a coworker, his wife and their new baby for an afternoon drink and opted for white wine. Yes, it was social (with other people) – but no food (minus a potato chip or two that was on the table) was really consumed.20160811_170112

B had after work plans – an event and then the Indians game – so I was on my own for dinner. I stopped off at the Heinen’s salad bar and picked up this.  There are some more tortellini, quinoa and other goodies under that lettuce.20160811_181627

I heated up some soup my mom had made and brought when she visited to go with my salad – chicken and pasta.

20160811_183134

And a peach that I had gotten at the farmer’s market that morning made for a complete dinner.20160811_201643

That was it! A pretty good day of eats by myself. Disclaimer-  some days when I eat alone all I manage to eat are spoonfuls of peanut butter, ice cream and handfuls of cereal because I’m holding FW with the other hand all day.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you eat differently when you eat alone vs with friends/family?
  • Do you eat soup in the summer or when it’s hot out? Or only in the winter?

JUNE is here.

You guys. June is here. JUNE IS HERE. I know you know that – but this is a BIG DEAL in our household this year because it means that the BABY MONTH arrives is here. Baby C is due in June! Guess we’d better get our act together, huh?

Anyway, this weekend flew by. Guess when you are used to three-day weekends they’ll do that, huh? I really enjoyed it though – it was a great mix of hanging out with B (it’s only a few more days/weeks/who knows that it’s just the two of us!), seeing friends and getting baby ready.

Friday night we started with a date night – dinner at the Flying Fig. Started with their special toast and it was GREAT – cheese, mushrooms, onions and pea shoots.

20160603_185725

And I got the soft-shelled crab for dinner. We(surprisingly) didn’t get dessert – both of us were too full! We took a walk after dinner and enjoyed the warm evening.20160603_191947

And we stumbled across the new Forest City Brewery! We of course had to stop in for a beer (not for me..soon!!). It was a cool place – they had a huge outdoor patio/beer garden area and it wasn’t that crowded (at last yet).

Saturday morning B and I took a walk around downtown again because it was another nice morning and not too hot. We always seem to end up in the Flats – its so nice to be able to walk around downtown and enjoy the sunny weather!20160604_113125

And then we got breakfast at Restore. It had been too long since I’d been there and I got an amazing dragonfruit bowl!

20160604_122214

Then we headed to the east side. I had plans to take a walk with Nicole (my former downtown running buddy) and I can’t believe I didn’t snap a photo of us on our walk. Oh well. Instead, here is part of Nicole’s garden.

Then it was time for our Ladies Craft Beer Society! As usual, a great spread:20160604_154315

And here are some of the ladies crafting.

20160604_174824

We made monograms with succulents. My C came out pretty good, huh?

20160604_183939

That night, B and I had plans to go on another date night but ended up unexpectedly having to babysit our niece and nephew last minutes. So plans then included takeout pizza ..20160604_195844

Drawing and some  board games. I ended up winning this one – beginners’ luck I guess? The game was called the African Star (my sister-in-law is Finnish, thus the Finnish game board).20160604_203337

Sunday brought a day of errands and a little bit of work catchup. So not that many exciting pictures – BUT I did manage to find an “expectant mother” parking spot for the first time in my pregnancy! I was pretty pumped to park here, especially since it started down pouring right when I got to the store.

20160605_140302

And of course, Sunday dinner with B’s family to round up the weekend. A nice summery meal of chicken, burgers, dogs, fruit salad, corn salad, beans, salad .. yum!

20160605_183858

And of course ended with ice cream sundaes 🙂 No pic but imagine the goodness.

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your go-to babysitting food? What did you have growing up with a babysitter AND/OR what do you get when you babysit people? almost always pizza! or when i was growing up i could choose a fast food item.
  • What are you most looking forward to for the month of June?

I’m linking up today with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

The Family Visits CLE

What a wonderful weekend.

My family was in town. That’s right, my parents AND Greg were all in Cleveland for the long weekend, and it was glorious. The weather was gorgeous, we had some good eats and we got in some quality time.

Some highlights from the weekend …

Greg got into town Thursday, so we had dinner and ice cream together.

Friday, my parents came in. We had dinner in Uptown – starting with an amazing meal at L’Albatros and then dessert at Coquette Patisserie.

Saturday morning, we walked to Hingetown for tea and coffee. Then it was off to the West Side Market to pick up groceries.

Saturday also included a walk down to the lake and dinner along the river.

My parents left Sunday after brunch, but Sunday afternoon, I went with Greg, his friend Zac and his friend Christie to a winery.

After the winery it was time for the closing night at Blossom! Another great performance by the Cleveland Orchestra AND fireworks.

For Labor Day, we did as any good American and did NO Labor. We hit the beach!

And for dinner, we celebrated B and his brother’s birthday. With cupcakes, of course. (These were made by my niece and nephew – how cute!)

Tuesday was our last day off before Greg and Zac left. Naturally, we started the day with a run. It was 81 degrees, something the San Fran boys were not used to, so I could actually keep up with them! We finished 5.6 miles at under a 9 min/mile pace, so I was pretty pleased.

We had a low-key last day. We enjoyed some Restore for breakfast (my fave acai bowls/smoothies/toast) and then spent the rest of the day chilling at a coffee shop in Tremont.

All in all, it was a great weekend in Cleveland. The weather was great (I don’t mind 80s :)), and it was fun to show my brother and Zac around and see my parents. Why can’t summer never end?

Some questions for you:

  • Almond OR peanut butter? If you had to choose one …
  • Do you like kombucha? Ever had it on tap?
  • What’s something great you ate over the holiday weekend?

Pretty Good Weekends Are Made of Patios, Pancakes, PR, Parties

This blog post is brought to you by the letter P. P. I’m not making this up. My weekend was made of alliteration – pretty much everything that began with the letter P. See for yourself – patios, pancakes, Pitch Perfect, PR, parties, pretzels, pizza, pork, potato pancakes and more.

Friday night started with a patio dinner and a movie with B – Pitch Perfect 2.

B and I split two entrees – their chopped salad and a club sandwich. I think outside of getting Chinese food, this may be the first time B has agreed to split food with me! It made my night. It’s the little things, right?

Saturday morning started with an easy 2 mile run and then the 5k fundraiser for an organization that B and I volunteer with on occasion – the West Side Catholic Center. It’s a fun 5k around Ohio City with a pancake breakfast after the race. The official times aren’t up yet, but I’m pretty sure I got a PR, too! We walked home and enjoyed a pretty picturesque view along the bridge.

Post race with my friend Cuoghi - we are suuuuper sweaty. It was 75+ and super humid

During the afternoon we headed to the West Side Market to pick up some produce for the week. And then for lunch, we decided to try out a new cold pressed juice and food place – I got an acai bowl with coconut, almond butter and granola and B got the watermelon mint juice. SO good.

Saturday night, B and I met our friends Dave and Anson for some patio drinks at the Hofbrauhaus, and of course a giant pretzel. We ended the night with a party for one of our friends who was turning 30.

Sunday was a nice day of prep and catch up – I had pizza for breakfast, got in a lazy workout, tried to catch up on work I had neglected this week, painted my nails, did some meal prep and watched a few episodes of Girls.

We ended the day with dinner at my in-laws. They had just returned from Germany, so our meal centered on German specialties, including pork and potato pancakes!
