When It’s 70 Degrees in November

I don’t know about you – but I feel like after all the events of this week, I’ve aged several years. Was it really only a week since my last update? So much has happened in the world and it has been a rollercoaster of emotions!

Thankfully, we had some unexpected reallllllly nice weather this week. It was in the 60s and 70s, which meant I got in some extra outdoor runs and NO treadmill runs at all! I also was able to get in two stroller runs, which seemed harder than usual, but was a nice way to spend some one-on-one time with FW while getting in 6ish miles each time.

Here’s a look at how this week went. I got in 40 miles of running, more than 10 of walking and I hit day 198 of my running streak!

Almost to 200

As of today, my running streak is at 193 days. That means that I have officially run every single day for more than half a year! When I started this running streak, it was honestly by accident. I ran the Cleveland half marathon (virtually, of course), and I don’t typically run after a race like that, but I wanted to do their challenge series so the next day I ran a 5k. Well, I felt surprisingly good during my virtual 5k and decided to not take any days off.

Not taking any days off turned into a running streak. I don’t know when i realized I was officially streaking, but here we are, at 190+ days of running every single day. And my average run for that time period is 5.77 miles.

This week was another week when I thought the streak may end. We had a different kind of streak here – a pouring rain streak. And by pouring, I mean POURING. It was a downpour Wednesday, Thursday and Friday when I woke up in the morning, but I decided to turn to the treadmill and not give up. And Saturday, when the weather finally turned and I normally would’ve run outside while B watched the kids, B was out of town so I wasn’t sure I’d get in a run.

Well, here’s how the week turned out:

Back on the Treadmill

This week, for the first time in weeks, I ran on the treadmill. Not just once, but TWICE!

Why? We had some SERIOUS thunderstorms. And as much as I don’t reallllllly mind running in the rain, thunder and lightning scare me. So when I woke up two days in a row to t-storms, I opted to keep up my running streak and hop on the treadmill.

Running With A Little Cold

It’s October, and that means that fall is here, and unfortunately, it also means that I got my first cold of the season.

And yes, it was just a cold — with my parents coming into town for the long weekend and us seeing B’s parents regularly (his mom is high-risk and has a compromised immune system), I decided to get tested for COVID. It was a simple, pretty painless process, and within 24 hours I found out it truly was just a cold. Yay!

But the cold, combined with my plantar fasciitis, has left my mileage not being as high as it has been the past few weeks.

October, Here We Come

Does anyone else feel like they blinked and September came and went? Maybe it’s because Labor Day was so late … maybe it’s because of the pandemic? Or maybe because I hate winter and know it’s coming … but I feel like September was gone before it even started.

And with that, the cooler weathers have come! We haven’t (thankfully) hit freezing yet, but I know that’s what’s coming soon. And while I don’t love this weather for hanging out, I do love it for running! I’m at 163 days of the running streak and my September total mileage was 158.26 miles. Not quite as high as the past few months, but with my foot slowing me down, I’ll take it.

Starting A Running Challenge

This week was a hard week mentally. With everything going on in the world, I can find it hard to stay focused and positive. I know I’ve said this before, but Thank. Goodness. For. Running. ,

To shake things up a little bit, I decided to join the Runs for Cookies fall mileage challenge. It’s a friendly mileage competition for those who want to walk/run all fall long. While it’s gorgeous fall weather right now, I can’t help but think that on December 14 or so (still technically “fall”) it won’t be so great. So I’m going to soak up all the outdoor weather while I can!

Running in Amish Country

Last week, for the first time since December, we went on vacation. Believe it or not, we hadn’t left our house for the night since Christmastime. Yes, we’d had plans for a family trip in March, but we all know what happened then …

We spent a few days this week in Amish Country, Ohio. We rented a gorgeous cabin (and by cabin, I mean cute cottage with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms) and got away from it all. And not only was it a great way to spend B’s birthday, but I was able to keep up my running streak!

142 Days of Running

For the first time during the streak this week, the weather almost prevented me from continuing.

Monday – Labor Day – I had plans to “sleep in” (until the kids woke up between 6:30-7) and go for a run while my parents watched the kids. Well, by the time I was ready to run, the skies were dark and it was pouring out. And not just pouring, but thundering and lightning. I checked the radar and it looked like it was going to rain alllll day. So, I hopped on the treadmill. It was my first treadmill run in MONTHS but there was no way I was going to let the weather ruin my streak. Plantar fasciitis? It may. A vacation without a treadmill? Perhaps. But some thunderstorms at my house? Not happening.

It ended up being a CRAZY storm, though. Our whole backyard turned into a lake. And, some roads near us flooded like crazy. The rain came down so fast and hard! Luckily, but the next day, the water had receded.

Another Week of the Streak

Another week down and another week of keeping up my running streak! This week I didn’t run as many miles as usual. Like last week, I skipped out of my longer mid-week run, due to some plantar fasciitis issues.

Overall, the pain wasn’t as bad as last week, but on days after I ran more miles, I definitely noticed an issue, and more pain. I’m still trying to see if I can manage the pain with anti-inflammatories, stretching and icing, but the future of the streak is still TBD.

That said, here’s what this week of my 135+ day running streak looks like:
