Day Off, A Shower, A First Communion, A Party and SPRING

This was definitely one of those weekends that felt like 3 weekends in one. We did quite a bit of fun things, that it felt like we packed a few different weekends in – which was fine with me! I’m trying to get as much in before baby #2 shows up in a month or so!

Friday ended up being a partially work-from-home day and partially watch-my-toddler-whose-daycare-is-closed-but-I-forgot day. Whoops. It’s okay – I was able to get a super early start on the day (hellllllllo third trimester not being able to sleep late but also being so tired all the time) and start working at the crack of down so that I was able to also spend some time in the afternoon with FW.

Thankfully, the day included some homemade bagels. This breakfast sandwich is from Cleveland Vegan and it’s pretty amazing – who knew I’d love vegan eggs and bacon?

We are members of the history museum, so around 4 p.m., we headed over there to check out their new dinosaur exhibit before they closed. LOVE being a member – we were able to get there 1 hr before they closed and explore for as little time as we want!

One of FW’s favorite part of the museum? Staring outside at the waterfall!

He’s also a big fan of the stegosaurus out front.  a

And since were only a few blocks away, we hit up Little Italy for dinner! Mama Santa’s pizza, salad and mozzarella sticks FTW. FW even had a few bites of the pizza and mozzarella sticks.

Saturday morning, we spent some time outside. It was sunny and in the 40s, which felt so good compared to the weather we have been having. Dare I say it felt springlike?

That afternoon, it was time for my sister-in-law’s wedding shower. I can’t believe Mary is getting married this summer!

It was Parisian themed and my amazingly talented mother-in-law made tons of delicious desserts, including cream puffs and macarons.

Aren’t they adorable?

That afternoon, we spent some more time outside. FW got chalk in his Easter basket, so we finally pulled it out and got to work on the driveway while B did some yard work.

B also made dinner – taking advantage of the springlike weather, he decided to grill. It was the perfect meal for the weather!

Sunday morning started with FW’s cousin’s First Communion! It was a gorgeous day for the Mass.

AND the celebration that followed – my sister-in-law had an amazing spread, and we spent the afternoon with family enjoying the nice weather and what finally felt like spring.

The party lasted all afternoon, and then it was time for FW to get in a late nap while we strolled him somewhat outside. We did some more chalk playing (anything to stay outside!) while B did yard work. Hooray for spring! I hope it stays this way.

Some questions for you:

  • Did it finally turn to spring for you?
  • Did you get in some good outdoor time this weekend?

The Best of Summer

What do I love about summer? Hmm … that’s easy. Being outside. Running outside. Drinking beers outside. Going for walks outside. Sipping cocktails outside. You get the idea – being outside. Laying in the sun outside.

And this weekend, I had plenty of outside time. So in my opinion, it was pretty great!

It started off with patio cocktails / happy hour with some of my lady friends. It was just warm enough to sit outside and we all ended up getting Rose Spritzers. Girly? Yes and it was just what I needed.

For dinner, B and I got Indian food takeout. It was SO good. Naan and second helpings not pictured.

Saturday morning, we had plans to do a local 5k race. B ran the whole thing with FW in the stroller and I ran with him. FW slept the entire time 🙂

We ran the race with B’s family – look how many of us there were! And 5 of them – including all the kids – ended up getting age group awards.

The race featured pancakes after the the run. Not a bad post-race meal 🙂

After the race, we hit the West Side Market for some groceries.

The afternoon included some errands, including shopping for some summer clothes for FW … but on the way back, we were able to grab a patio beer at Goldhorn Brewery.

After drinks, we hit the grocery store for pizza supplies. And while we were there, we grabbed some delicious mussels as an appetizer.

And then it was pizza night. Obligatory homemade pizza photo not included. We also then watched War Dogs, which was much different (and better!) than I had expected.

Sunday morning started early with FW waking up at the crack of dawn and not being able to go back to sleep. So we decided to get out and go for a run at the park.

And sit by the beach for a little bit.

Then it was time for DONUTS! We had missed National Donut Day, so we figured a belated celebration was better than never!

That afternoon, I did a little baking for the first time in  … well, forever! I made a peach cobbler-type cake for a dinner with our friends.

And that evening, we headed to Dave and Anson’s house for a dinner with them, Joey and Lulu and some other friends who were in town. It’s crazy that it’s no longer just the couples – there were four kids there, too! It was fun to have Francis play with their kids.

And the boys were happy to get together – they all met at law school and have stayed friends since!

And that was it for a fun-filled summery weekend.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you stay in touch with your friends from school?
  • What was the last thing you baked?

Weekends That Feel Like Spring

We finally had a springlike weekend in Cleveland!! The weather was sunny and Sunday it was WARM so we spent as much time as we could outside. Friday night, B, FW and I went to Little Italy for dinner and dessert! The weather was sunny and cool and it was nice to be in such a walkable area for dinner. We grabbed mushroom pizza at Mama Santas and the best cannoli at Presti’s.

Saturday morning started with a 4 mile treadmill run and some breakfast with the boys. Fun fact – we learned that FW loves mango!

We spent most of the afternoon looking at houses. Still no real contenders … but we did get to go out for lunch at one of my favorite places – Stone Oven! This is one of my favorite salads.

And since we ended up finishing our house hunting near B’s brother and his family, we decided to take a walk with FW’s cousins! FW snoozed for a bit while we walked.

Saturday night ended with some steak and potatoes.  I love it when B cooks for me 🙂

Sunday started with some more outdoor time- I got in an outdoor run with Mary. I got in 9 miles, and they felt great!

After the run, it was time for Sunday brunch with B’s family.  We typically do Sunday dinner, but this weekend was a delicious brunch.

After brunch,  we headed to the park to enjoy more sunshine. It was packed- everyone was at the lake!

Since we had Sunday brunch with B’s family, we had dinner to ourselves. B made an awesome meal – he roasted a whole chicken and put it with a giant salad. My type of meal!

And that was it. I hope the weather stays nice so we can continue to spend time outside this week!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you get in any runs this weekend?
  • How do you like your steak cooked?

Oh hey, weekend … where did you go?

Happy First Weekend of Spring! Yahoo – it’s finally here. Spring is here, spring is here.

We kicked off spring with a pretty fun weekend full of food, friends and films (yup, I did that alliteration on purpose because I’m fancy like that).

Friday night started off with some drinks with coworkers to celebrate the weekend. I don’t know what it is but all of us had seemed to have a crazy week and were happy to be able to kick off and relax. The bar in our building where I work has some good happy hour specials so it was great to finally take advantage of them!

Then it was time to meet up with our friend Steve! Steve was in town for work but had the weekend free so of course we were able to show him a fun weekend. Which meant that Friday night also involved some drinks at Parnells and dinner at Barrio. I headed to bed earlier than the guys and they spent some more night out on the town.

Saturday morning I texted Erica to see if she was running again – and she was! I met up with her and the weather was chilly but again, so nice to be outside. We got in a 6+ mile run and then went and saw a movie at the Cleveland International Film Festival. Erica had an extra pass and I was so happy to take it and see the movie I’d been wanting to see – Limited Partnership. Here’s the trailer:

It was a really good pic and the director stuck around afar the movie as part of a panel discussion that was also really good.

Saturday afternoon was my monthly Ladies Craft Beer event – this time Cuoghi hosted it and put together quite the spread – this girl knows how to cook and entertain! She also taught me how to use a sewing machine, and I successfully finished our craft – homemade scarves!

At night, I met up with B, Steve, Dave, Anson and Joey for some drinks at Nano Brew and March Madness, followed by some late-night TV watching of Doogie Howser because why not?

Sunday, B, Steve and I got brunch at Phuel before Steve had to fly back to DC.

I'm a creature of habit - always order the same granola bowl and love it every time.

B and I spent the rest of the day at the Cleveland Film Festival – we caught two movies and bought tickets for quite a few more this week. I love love love the Film Festival and am so glad we actually made time to see some movies this year!
