A Weekend with a Wedding, Birthday and Baptism

To say it was a busy weekend would be an understatement. BUT it was a GREAT weekend filled with lots of memories with family and friends, so I wouldn’t have it any other way!

After doing a few hours of work on Friday morning, I took the rest of the day off to get prepared for the weekend. Meaning baking cupcakes, shopping and cleaning. But of course, I had to get in a nice run first. Love these views of downtown!

After that, I found time for a pedicure. The massage felt so good!

Said cupcakes I baked. I made banana cupcakes because FW loves banana and the plan was for him to have his first cupcake that weekend 🙂

That night, B and I ordered sushi takeout. I had a great veggie roll, seaweed salad, and some sashimi – tuna and mackerel.

And then we had to stay up and watch the Cavs game. I don’t usually  stay up ’till midnight anymore, but I HAD to watch … they finally won one! Now to win 3 more …

Saturday morning also started with a run. I got in 5.89 miles before meeting B and FW for some grocery shopping.

We headed to the West Side Market to get some groceries for the week, plus supplies for Sunday. Sunday we had plans to celebrate FW’s baptism AND birthday and we were going to be having a make-your-own sandwich station.

On the way home, we came across this great new mural. I love it!

Then it was time for Nicole’s backyard wedding celebration! I didn’t get any pics of the bride and groom sadly, but here’s FW and I all ready to go!

We left the festivities a little early because my parents and my mom’s cousin were in town! We met them for dinner at Masthead. Pizza and beers.

Sunday morning started early- FW got baptized!

I felt so lucky to have my parents in town to celebrate. And I know FW loved it too.

One of my college roommates just happened to be driving through Cleveland on Sunday, too so we got to see her!

FW had his first taste of cupcake. He looooved the frosting!

B’s mom made us a bear cake – it was so cute and tasty!

FW also got to hang out in the sandbox. At first he wasn’t too sure about it, but after a few minutes, he started to really enjoy it.

By the end of the afternoon, everyone was pooped. Me included. It was a long day!

We were all pretty tired, but content after a great weekend of family and celebrations. A perfect summer weekend!

Some questions for you:

  • Was it hot where you were this weekend? It was in the 80s here!
  • Who are you rooting for in the NBA finals?

I’m linking up with the weekly wraps.

WIAW #22: No Groceries.

Happy What I Ate Wednesday! Does anyone else feel like it should be Thursday, or even Friday? I’m still recovering from the Fourth of July and a busy work week.

Anyway, these were my eats from Monday. I got back late Sunday from our trip to Milwaukee and didn’t go to the store. I didn’t meal prep. So here  it is – what you see is when I don’t have groceries (until the end of the day).

The morning started with another smoothie bowl. I know – for a person who doesn’t like smoothies, I’m starting to really enjoy smoothie bowls. They can’t replace my typical eggs, but when you don’t have any groceries but do have some frozen fruit, a Vitamix and protein powder at work, this will do. Again, it doesn’t look that pretty but it tasted pretty good. It was some Hemp vanilla protein powder (free sample I had gotten in the mail), some water, some ice, and some frozen strawberries and blueberries. Topped with some flaxseed and chia seeds for texture. AND eaten with a spoon. Evne though some of it was in a glass (see how much it made?!)

Lunchtime I headed over to one of my favorite downtown sandwich and salad places, Stone Oven and got my favorite salad. Janea’s salad. Feta, chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red pepper, bread, croutons, tabbouleh and couscous salad. Such a good meal. I was in food heaven.

Followed by a nectarine and a few nuts (not pictured) AND some white chocolate chips (I had already eaten some when I took the photo).

I also had some Werther’s and mustard. Yes, I like mustard packets. By themselves.

For dinner,  I had plans to introduce a friend to some zoodles. She had never had them before, so I headed over to Heinen’s after work to pick up some goodies to cook and we ended up making a dish for Meatless Monday – vegetarian lomein with zoodles instead of pasta. It was pretty good!

She brought over dessert – some paleo zucchini brownies and cookies she had made. They were both really good! I’m a purist when it comes to dessert, and these didn’t taste like traditional cookies and brownies – but they were still really tasty. I may have taken some for leftovers. Zucchini brownies for breakfast anyone? (It may defeat the purpose, but they’re so delicious with peanut butter too :))

So there you have it. That was my day without groceries until the evening. Click on the badge below to see what WIAW is all about.

Some questions for you:

  1. What’s your favorite quick and/or on-the-go breakfast?
  2. Have you ever had any paleo desserts? What did you think? Do you recommend any recipes?
  3. Anyone like me? Do you eat mustard plain?

It’s My Birthday!

I had a somewhat big birthday this past weekend. That’s right – I officially am no longer in my twenties.

me at 20

me at 20 with my friend and roomie Cait at BC. Look the same, right? Ha!

I don’t know if it has hit me yet – I know a few of my friends who had minor freakouts when they hit thirty. Other friends at 29 set up “30 before 30” checklists and in a year tried to check everything off their list. Maybe it was the fact that we just got back from a big vacation and I honestly hadn’t had time to think about it, but none of that happened to me. In fact, I somewhat forgot about my birthday (I know, yipes!) until about a week before and then didn’t really have the chance to process it and then it was here! Don’t worry, if I have a freakout or something I’m sure I’ll share it with you. Maybe when I hit 31?

Anyway, thank you to all the friends, family and coworkers that made my birthday celebration SO special. B originally wanted to plan a trip somewhere warm and while I wouldn’t normally turn down a weekend warm weather getaway, we had just gotten back from Asia and I was happy to have the weekend to spend in Cleveland. And it was a pretty fabulous weekend! Some highlights:

Going out to dinner at Flying Fig. B and I split their bread board, bacon wrapped dates, a goat cheese salad and homemade fig ice cream. We also had our own dinner entrees. Needless to say, I was stuffed!

Going out to dinner at Flying Fig. This was my stuffed acorn squash. It was amazing.

A trip to the West Side Market and Soupermarket. Pretty much my favorite way to spend Saturdays and I’m so glad B knows this 🙂

Some shopping, getting my nails done AND seeing a movie! We saw American Sniper which was SO good but not the best birthday movie to see … it was sad on so so so many levels.

Enjoying my favorite salad at The Stone Oven. Yes, more food-related highlights. Confession: I’ve had this twice in the week we’ve been back … It has feta, couscous, tabbouleh, amazing croutons, roasted red pepper and chicken. And comes with more bread!

Some runs, of course! I started off my birthday with 5 indoor miles (it was too icy and cold to be outside alone in my opinion) and realize I am slowly getting back into my running groove after our vacation. Because it was my birthday, B ran with my TWICE this week. An easy 3.75 mi run and then a not-so-easy (but should have been) 6 miler on Sunday. It was icy, there were patches of snow, and it was windy and cold. I was not having it and actually asked B if he wanted to turn around after 1 mile and try indoors, but he made me keep going. I had planned on doing 5k fast (as part of the Runs For Cookies Virtual 5k) but that didn’t happen. I still made it 5k+3 so I was happy in the end.

Enjoying a suite for the Cavs game – and they brought home a [big] win against the Charlotte Hornets.

We ended the weekend with some reading and relaxing at a local coffee shop, a brisk (brr) nature walk (anything outside of downtown=nature walk) and then Sunday family dinner with my in-laws.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you make lists of things to do before a certain date/time? Or perhaps a list of things to do in a year? Or a bucket list? What’s on your list?
  • Any other winter babies? How do you spend your birthdays?
  • Tea or coffee? Both! Sometimes. I like coffee drinks if I need a boost, otherwise I just drink herbal tea.
