Weekly Running Recap: I Take Awkward Running Selfies

You know those perfect running selfies you see when scrolling through Instagram? Of the people running but they also managed to capture the best photo? You know the ones – they are mid-stride and look graceful, yet fierce. Not quite smiling but not frowning. They look like runners.
Let’s just say I’m not one of those. That’s right — I do NOT look like that when I try to take a running selfie. But I digress – here were my runs this week. I didn’t mean to take off Thursday, but LM was awake from approximately 1:45 a.m. until 4 a.m., which meant I had slept about 3.7 hours when the alarm went off to run and I couldn’t move.

And, here’s the aforementioned selfie. I think I look somewhat like an awkward robot, don’t you?

And because there are no better photos than that for this week, that’s all you get.

Some questions for you:

  • Can you take running selfies?
  • How much sleep do you need?

Weekly Running Recap: Ducks, Deer, Turtle, Opossum (oh, my!)

This week’s runs can be summed up into two sentences:

  • I ran 6/7 days again.
  • I saw animals.

Here’s a look at the week’s running:

I saw some sort of animal almost every run. One day I passed an opossum while running. Eek – those are creepy creatures and I tried to take a picture of it but it ran away. Sunday I passed a turtle!

On the other days, I saw deer. One day it was one deer. One day it was right next to me. Another day I saw two deer. I’m surprised at how close they would get to me, they seemed to have no fear.

One day, I saw geese! Okay, this was during my commute into work and not during a run, but I still wanted to share the pic.  It was so funny how they were even walking in the crosswalk.

I took this Saturday and Sunday off from running. We spent both days in the car for a few hours traveling to and from Detroit, so unfortunately I didn’t get in any runs. But I’ll be back again on Monday!

Some questions for you:

  • Do you find it hard to run when you’re traveling? With kids, yes. We’re always on the go or in the car, etc. or we need a stroller to jog with so it’s much harder than when it was just me or me and B.
  • What kind of animals do you see on your runs?

Weekly Running Recap: 6/7 Days

I got in 6 days of running this week. Six of the seven days of the week, I got up and ran. And you know what? My legs are a little tired from it!

Here is a look at some of the highlights:

Sunday, I had a great solo during-the-day run. For the first time in forever (cue Frozen … no? Any other parents?), I felt great during a run. I haven’t felt this way in a few weeks and it was nice to be outside and not feeling like my body was tired/dragging.

The rest of the week was the same old same old – some runs were okay some weren’t, but I always feel good after them. One day was extremely foggy, and a few days I saw deer after deer.

And then Saturday, I got in a total of 6+ stroller miles – probably the most I’ve ever gotten in one day with running! It included a run with LM, a run/walk to the Farmers Market, and then a run home from the market with FW. I was definitely pooped afterwards!

Hopefully my body can handle another week of 20+ miles – if this weather is here to stay, I wanna keep it up! Though I may need to take another day off – my feet and legs are sore.

Some questions for you:

  • How many days do you run in a week?
  • Are you into farmers markets?

Tuesdays on the Run – Up with a Baby Then Out for a Run

Tuesday, Tuesday, gotta write a running post on Tuesday … (sung to the tune of Rebecca Black’s Friday – is that in your head? You’re welcome!)

Anyway, this week was an okay week in terms of running. I ran 5 of the 7 days, but Tuesday’s run was pretty stellar. I ran my longest pre-work run since LM was born, mostly because she got up at 4 a.m. and wouldn’t go back to sleep for an hour so I just went for a run and had more time than I usually do.

Other highlights of the week? We had a super rainy week, though, so I’m impressed that I made it outside all those days. Luckily, if it was raining in the mornings, it was just a drizzle or mist and was still 40+ degrees so it wasn’t to awful. I can’t stand rain and cold runs – I just can’t get warm after those!

I also got in a Sunday stroller run, something I haven’t done in ages. I had a few errands to run before the day, which included picking up a prescription about a mile from my house, as well as returning a library book and buying bread, so I decided to run with FW to do all of that. It was fun to literally run errands with him!

So here’s how the week looked:

Almost 20 for thr week! And fingers crossed the weather is nicer this week and it’s not cold and rainy in the mornings.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you run in the dark outside?
  • Do you run the same routes or vary it up?

Tuesdays on the Run: Bringing Up My Mileage

This week was actually a pretty good week in terms of running! I got in quite a few miles – including both outdoor and indoor runs this week – and got up to my 2nd highest mileage week since LM and 2nd fastest run!

I’m feeling pretty encouraged by the week. While my daily miles are still pretty low (3-5ish miles most often), I’ve felt pretty good most days. I probably could go more if I had some more time, too. AND even found myself going pretty fast (for post-baby me) on Friday’s run.

Some highlights:

Sunday’s stroller run was not only with FW and B and LM, but also with our niece and nephew.

Friday’s run’s average page was 9:16/mi – my fastest run since I’ve had LM, minus the 5k race I did a month or so ago.

Here’s a look at my splits:

It really was the best run I’ve had in a while! (For comparison, the run we did on Sunday with the strollers and our niece and nephew was close to 11 min/miles)

I finally feel like I’m slowly getting back into running shape. Am I as fast as I was last year at this time? Not at all. But between getting not much sleep, nursing (it dehydrates me and takes a toll!), and how busy work has been (not to mention trying to manage our new life with 2 kids), I’m just happy to be where I am.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you run in the morning or at night?
  • Have you been running inside? Outside? Both?

Tuesdays on the Run – First Stroller Race!

I’m excited to share that this week, I had a running first – I did my first official race with a stroller!

Do I run with a stroller often? Somewhat – especially in the summer/spring, I have run a few times a month with FW and even on maternity leave with LM in the stroller.

Have I ever participated in a race with a stroller? Nope! Not until last week, however. And not only did I survive, but I got my goal of under 10 min/miles. Was it a 5k PR? Not at all by any chance whatsoever. BUT it was the fastest stroller run I’ve done and it was fun to run with FW (B pushed LM at the same time, too).

In addition to our race, here’s how the week looked:

Finding time to race with 2 little ones is hard, but hopefully there will be more stroller races in my future!

Some questions for you:

  • Do you run with a stroller?
  • Did you race this week?

Too Much Fun Stuff

Well, I think we outdid ourselves this weekend. In just 2-ish days, our weekend included (and not in this order):

  • 2 Indians games
  • A date night
  • Cookie baking
  • Muffin making
  • A visit to a new local bar/brewery
  • A block party
  • A family birthday dinner
  • A 5K race
  • A nature walk

See what I mean? I didn’t even include work, which took up a few hours of my weekend as well! Good thing I like being busy.

Friday night started out with a date night! B and I went to the new Southern Tier and grabbed drinks. I of course had to get a Pumpking- they had a coffee stout kind that was amazing!

We will definitely be back.

After that, we were off to the Indians game! This is our 9th game of the season together.

It was just the 2 of us at the game for the first time all season! It was nice to just relax and enjoy the game.

Saturday morning FW and I let LM and B sleep in, so we started off the morning by making muffins!

Later in the morning, we took a walk to the nature center. It was packet pickup for a race we had planned for Sunday. FW enjoyed checking out the turtle.

And then we went fot a short nature walk.

That afternoon included some cookie baking.

And then we took said cookies in our wagon and headed to our block party!

Everything was really kid friendly. FW loved the chalk.

And the donut game- you had to try to eat it on the string without any hands!

There was also a game that involved eating whipped cream with no hands.

And an egg toss.

Not a bad block party, right?

Sunday morning started early with a 5k race around the Shaker Lakes.

It was my first race pushing the stroller the entire time – B pushed LM and I pushed FW – and it was fun!

My goal was to do under 10 minute miles and we did it – so I was happy.

In the afternoon, we headed to another Indians game. This time, with FW.

After the game, it was time for dinnernat B’s parents’ house. We celebrated his birthday with his favorite- steak for dinner and chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for dessert.

And that’s a wrap! Some questions for you:

  • Do you like chocolate cake?
  • Did you get to do any races this weekend?
