Things That Make a Wintry Weekend Great

I love me a good weekend. A good weekend with nothing really planned so all there is to do is relax, be semi-productive, and enjoy the company of family and friends. And that was just what we had in store for this weekend – nothing planned going into the days, but plenty to keep us busy Saturday and Sunday. It ended up snowing and icing so we didn’t get to spend much time outside, but we kept warm and had fun indoors.

It ended up being a GREAT weekend. And here’s why:

Fresh flowers. From Urban Orchid. I love fresh flowers and B and FW surprised me with a wintry bouquet that I’m loving:

Brunch with friends. I didn’t get a picture of the food, but FW got to try some new toys out while he was there!

20161218_112330

Reading. B and FW read a little on Friday night and I love watching them read together. FW is finally (sort of) getting interested in books!

20161216_185407

Adopting a family during the holiday – and dropping off the gifts. B and I organize a local adopt a family program during the holidays each year and this year I was there for the drop off. I’m so grateful to be able to be part of a great tradition!

20161217_111859

Some running. It was cold and super icy, and I ended up only having about 20 minutes or so to work out on Saturday so I got in a short, quick run. 20161217_145800 20161217_164029

Colorful sandwiches. I mean, look at those veggies. Almost too pretty to eat! Love me some Herb & Twine.

A new local grocery and butcher shop in the neighborhood – everything was so fresh and looked so good!

20161217_124112

Wintry homemade meals. B made me lamb shank and root veggies (from above said new grocery store) and it was SO good!

Tree decorating with B’s family. It’s feeling like the holidays!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you get outside this weekend? Was it super icy near you?
  • How excited are you for the holidays?

Wintry Weekends (One Sentence Per Photo)

And just like that, we blinked and it’s mid-December now! Here’s how our weekend went, one-sentence-per-photo style.

Friday nights that start with beer and wine (and this ceiling view) are pretty awesome.

20161209_190349

And it has been too long since we had homemade pizza.20161209_210626

Starting him on reading young (the book ended up in his mouth one second later).

20161210_115542

These are actually pretty good.

20161210_151808

Look who FW met for the first time!

20161210_183755

Sushi on weekends is always a great idea.20161210_192826

And it’s that time of year – Christmas pageants – this one, with my niece!

20161211_135614

And that about sums up our weekend. Some questions for you:

  • Have you tried the new M&Ms? What is your favorite kind of M&M? My favorite will probably always be peanut butter!
  • What’s your favorite children’s book?

Per usual, I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

10 Thanksgiving Things

I had a LONG weekend (took part of Wednesday off) and I can’t believe that it’s over. Unfortunately our plans to go back east and spend Thanksgiving with my family fell through, but we were able to spend the holiday in Cleveland with B’s family. Which meant we got to do quite a few things on our days off. Here were 10 of those things …

1. Running the Cleveland Turkey Trot. It’s a 5 mile race and was my first real race after FW was born that I had signed up for. I tried to keep up with B’s siblings for most of the run (B watched FW during the race and cheered us on) – but since I’m still getting back into shape and they’re mid-marathon training, it wasn’t an easy feat! In any case, I finished pretty strong and better than I expected – I had an 8:40/mile average page.

20161124_091337

20161124_092600

2. Getting dressed up and celebrating the holiday with B’s family. Any excuse to put FW in a cardigan and bowtie 🙂

img_20161124_195325

3. Cooking! B and I brought cauliflower to the big meal. We roasted a few whole heads with a dijon dressing and then also made a cauliflower, date and pignoli nut dish.

20161124_125135 20161124_130758 20161124_162542

4. Cuddling with great grandma. This was FW of course 🙂

20161124_160417

5. Working out. I got in 4 runs and some kettle bells on my days off.20161126_093814

6. Bundling up for a walk downtown. It was chilly for the first few days – but at least it made for perfect ice skating weather! (not for me – but for those people in the picture)

img_20161126_190902 20161126_105845

7. Shopping! We did some shopping for Christmas gifts and bought a few books and teething supplies for FW. (Side note – teething is THE WORST.) img_20161126_115128

8. Walking. FW, B and I went for a walk when it was sunny and in the upper 40s one day. It felt great to see the sun and not be super bundled up!

20161127_144627 20161127_134930 20161127_143710

9. Bowling. B’s family’s post-Thanksgiving tradition is bowling and then a big Italian dinner. I did pretty well for me (82!) but as you can see, it wasn’t enough to get in the finals – check out all the high scorers in my lane!

img_20161126_161845

10. Lots of eating. I mean – it was Thanksgiving, after all. B and I had some good meals even outside of our Thanksgiving Day meal. Including some great Chinese takeout from our favorite place (Wonton Gourmet)and then feasting on all of the new Halo Top flavors. Seriously – I almost squealed (okay, I did squeal) when I saw all these flavors at Whole Foods!img_20161125_192017 20161127_162724

And now, it’s back to reality for a few days at least. I have a busy week ahead of me at work so hopefully it will fly by.

Some questions for you:

  • Have you tried the new Halo Top flavors?
  • Did you run a Turkey Trot?

Per usual, I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

Holy moly it’s November

Holy moly…it’s November. I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. I feel like it should still be August. Honestly, I don’t really know where August went … I guess having a baby makes time fly even faster?

It was a really good weekend for us in Cleveland. We even started out Friday with semi-matching outfits for FW and me. Okay, I know we’re not matching, but we’re both wearing grey so I was pretty excited. So was he apparently!

20161104_073553

And then Friday at work we had a dog in the office! I love puppy therapy days … seriously, I needed it since work has been kinda stressful and busy lately. But puppies make it all better!

img_20161104_085451

Friday night B and I spent some time out by ourselves. We went out for drinks and dinner at the Plum Cafe & Kitchen.

20161104_192617

Check out all that deliciousness in a bowl! img_20161104_205907

Saturday morning started off with a walk outside. It was in the 40s so we bundled up!

20161105_083928

But it was GORGEOUS out.

20161105_092258-pano

We then decided to go out for brunch. This fruit and granola bowl at Phuel is my favorite.20161105_104301

And then it was time for a trip to the West Side Market. I love wearing FW and this was the first time I’ve worn him facing out! I think he liked it.20161105_124316

That afternoon it was time for Ladies Craft Beer Society! This month we made decorative towels and had some tasty bubbly AND fall beers. I finally had my favorite – Warlock!

20161105_164545

FW was there too as was Reanna’s baby.

20161105_173025

And at night B and I decided to have a movie night. We finally popped the bag of popcorn we brought back from Mexico City. Que deliciosa!

20161105_210711

Sunday morning was another gorgeous morning so I opted to go out for a run while FW slept a little. I got in 5 miles at under 9 min/mile pace which is the fastest I’ve run since FW was born. Yay!

20161106_091442

And this little guy greeted me when I got home. I can’t get enough of his smiles. 20161106_102649

Sunday night, after spending some time doing meal prep, watching the NY Marathon and a little work, we had plans to get dinner with friends. Is there ever a better way to end the weekend?

screenshot-2016-11-06-20-39-14

And that was it!

Per usual, I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

Questions for you:

  • Have you gotten to enjoy some fall weather?
  • What’s a fun type of popcorn you’ve had?

Weekend Essentials

Happy Sunday! Are you ready for the week ahead? I’m still thinking about the weekend and wishing it were still here….sigh. Why? It was a good weekend with not too much work and the right mixture of fun and relaxation.

Here were this weekend’s essentials:

Decaf almond milk lattes. Essential when you’re averaging 5-6 hours of sleep a night and by Friday your brain is FRIed.

20161028_073718

Post-work beers. OR a single beer because I’m still BF-ing and my tolerance is still sooo low.

20161028_192426

Buffalo chicken salads.

20161028_203006

5 mile runs with a baby. Where I only had to hold the stroller for one mile because B was there too!

snapchat-7788438560821822769

Trolley rides through neighborhoods you are looking to buy houses in!

20161029_105428

Ice cream. Because when it’s 75 degrees in October, pumpkin pie ice cream is a must.

20161029_130306

And pumpkin bar cookies. They go well with said pumpkin pie ice cream.

20161029_172847

Homemade pizza. It’s even better than takeout in my opinion.

20161029_200808

Scary movies. I hate scary movies but once a year we do a scary movie night with friends around Halloween. This year, the Mist, was more of a monster/supernatural movie and it reminded me of Stranger Things so I was okay with it.

Homemade brunches.

20161030_124618

Delicious Halloween themed treats. B’s mom made them – amazing, huh?

20161030_183341

And of course cute babies!

20161030_090058

Now, GO INDIANS!!! Here’s to hoping we do the same thing tonight as we did last night!!

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your weekend essential?
  • What type of coffee do you like?
  • Are you watching the World Series?

I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

No, YOU’RE The Best

I really can’t complain about the weekend. We had gorgeous weather and were able to spend time outside. I got in 2 outdoor runs. We had outdoor beers and an outdoor lunch. I was semi-productive. The Indians won. AND I got to celebrate some hard work at the Best of Cleveland event.

Friday night after work, B and I opted to take a walk before dinner and find somewhere to grab a drink.  As we were walking, the little guy fell asleep!

20161014_190329
It was a gorgeous night, and tons of people were out for the baseball game.
img_20161014_201642 So we did what any new parents would do- found a patio to enjoy a nice beer and ordered a pizza. Pizza 216 really is my favorite place for thin crust. 20161014_201919 img_20161014_193108

We were able to follow along with the Indians game and were excited when they won!

Sunday morning, Mary was running 16 miles, so B, FW and I decided to join her for the last 3ish. I am really enjoying running with B and sharing the stroller!
That afternoon, we headed to the east side of town to enjoy the changing leaves and 70 degree temps and watch a college football game. But first, we had time for a little walk. Followed by lunch- tater tots and hot dogs! I had an amazing vegan dog with lentil chili, cheese and veggies.

20161015_113857

20161015_124546

I think FW enjoyed the football game – the weather was perfect!

20161015_133235

That night,  B had tickets to the Indians game and while he was there watching them bring home another WIN, I was at the Best of Cleveland event, celebrating the @InTheCLE twitter account. The citizen voice twitter handle that I founded a few years ago  (each week it features a new Clevelander) won Best Social Media so me, Victoria and Laura were there manning the booth and getting new sign-ups.

20161015_174457 20161015_182753 20161015_183003 20161015_184820

The event didn’t end until late, but I headed out a littlr early to get some work done when a client crisis popped up. I was pooped- I’m still trying to figure out how to juggle it all!

Sunday morning included some smiles with this guy…

20161016_084515

And also a run with Nicole (like the good old days!), some meal prep, and cooking. 20161016_104107

And because it was sunny and 78 degrees, B and I were able to go for a walk with FW and enjoy lunch outside.

20161016_132528

20161016_134845

And then a perfect grilled dinner. I love the warmer weather we are having!!

Questions:

  • Did it feel like summer near you again suddenly?
  • Did you get in any runs or races this weekend? It seemed like everyone I knew had a race!

And because it’s Monday, I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.

We Love Grandparent Time

FW got an extra dose of Grandparent Time this weekend – he spent Friday night with B’s mom and the rest of the weekend with my parents!

I neglected to take any photos Friday night with B’s mom, but FW got to spend some time with her because B and I had tickets to the Indians playoff game!!

20161007_075633 20161007_184627 img_20161007_172620

It was a great night for some baseball and seasonably warm (80 degrees!). Oh yeah, and we won!

We followed the game with some local thin crust pizza. I love Pizza 216’s dough.20161007_205216

Saturday we woke up and it felt like fall was here! We decided to take my parents away from downtown for the day and spent some time in Burton, Ohio for their Oxtoberfest AND apple butter festival.

20161008_121143 img_20161008_143953

We watched people make apple butter and of course ought some to go.

After the festival, we made quick stop at Ohio wine country. I love Spring River for its views and I’m glad my parents got to check it out.

20161008_153554 img_20161008_144123 20161008_153718 20161008_155157

We started Sunday with a run (faster than my previous runs!) trip to the Market, a walk around Ohio City and brunch at Le Petit Triangle.

screenshot-2016-10-09-16-07-07

My mom and I split the lemon curd French toast and the Croque Madame. They were so so good!

20161009_120420 20161009_120634

B also got this fancy coffee drink. I got to have the whipped cream but he enjoyed the rest of it which had grand marinier and whiskey I think. 20161009_114952

After that it was time to say goodbye to my parents – which is always so sad. Luckily we were headed right to Sofia’s cross country meet so that helped keep my mind off of them leaving. FW was thrilled to cheer on his cousin at her race. 20161009_143056

It was fun watching the kids run!

And then it was already nearly time for Sunday family dinner with B’s family. We ended the weekend with a fall meal – beef stew and apple crisp. And of course, milk for the little guy. Cheers to a great week!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you enjoy any fall meals? What’s your favorite fall meal?
  • How do you like your eggs?

I’m linking up with ErinKatie and the weekly wraps.
