Fourth of July with the Baby

Well, B and I survived the first week home with the baby! Honestly, I don’t know how single parents do it – this first week was challenging, tiring and rewarding – but I did it all thanks to B. Not sure how I’m going to deal when he goes back to work in a week … but I digress.

We had a great holiday weekend! Showing FW around town, hanging out with my parents (who were visiting again) for the weekend and of course having some family time for the holiday.

Friday started with a trip to the West Side Market – we showed FW around our normal shops.

20160701_120144

And a trip to Gallucci’s for some wine and pizza supplies.20160701_134706

Because Friday night was pizza night! B made this awesome pepperoni and mushroom pizza with our new pizza stone. It was the perfect TGIF dinner!20160701_213247

Saturday morning was gorgeous, so we got in a short walk to the water and of course took some pics with FW.

20160702_125346

My parents got in that afternoon and they were very excited to see him! 20160703_125523

It stayed gorgeous out all day, so we needed the day with an evening out to dinner – burgers and wine outside downtown. My veggie burger was so good!IMG_20160702_190222

Sunday morning, B’s mom had everyone over for brunch. It was great to introduce the baby the rest of the family – and of course his cousins loved holding him again.20160703_132321

After brunch, we went for a walk around a nearby lake – it was great outside and it’s been so much fun sharing all our favorite spots with FW.

And for dinner? Sushi with my parents. Gotta love being able to eat raw fish again!

IMG_20160703_192316

Monday started out lazy. I had been up with FW much of Sunday, so we hung low and then got in a walk around downtown before heading to B’s family’s house for the Fourth of July BBQ.

20160704_181050

FW even got some bonding time with his great grandma.  He is so lucky to have so many family members nearby and not only all of his grandparents but also a great grandma!

And that was it- a great Fourth of July weekend and FW’s first celebration!

Three Weekends In One

What a weekend.  It was fun, tiring and a whirlwind of activity.  I need a weekend to recover I think!

If I had to sum up my weekend, I’d say it was like 3 weekends in one. I feel like I had enough going on to fill three weekends – and it was great!

The weekend started Friday night, with a dinner date and comedy show. B and had tickets to a 9:30 show (late for 8 month pregnant me) to see one of our favorite comica, Sebastian Maniscalco. We started off with a late dinner at Cowell & Hubbard, splitting cheese and a few appetizers.

our Cowell & Hubbard assortment

our Cowell & Hubbard assortment

And then the show. We’ve seen Sebastian several times throughout the years at Hilarities, but he has gotten bigger now (he was even on Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee) and even though he was playing at a different, bigger venue, we almost didn’t get tickets in time!

Saturday morning started early with a 5 am alarm- B and I were headed to the airport to fly to Boston for the day to celebrate our anniversary! It was a great, but quick trip and we were able to get in a lot of walking (nearly 30,000 steps) and see many of our old favorite places (we met in Boston in college). From Beacon Hill to the Boston Common to the Public Gardens to Newbury Street to Faneuil Hall to Fenway to the Isabella Gardner Museum, I’d say we hit nearly everything.

We even got in a celebrity sighting- we were told we couldn’t post photos on social media but I did share info to my Snapchat story (@koskim). Here’s a hint- he was promoting Walhburgers and his name rhymes with Bark 🙂

We ended the day with a great Italian meal in the North End, complete with cannoli, tiramisu and coffee of course.

Sunday started early again- we had to fly back to Cleveland first thing, as I was emceeing a board event Sunday at lunch time. I’m the Vice President of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Cleveland, and Sunday was our annual scholarship banquet. I had the pleasure of speaking and announcing the names of all the student award recipients. Brought me back to my days of high school awards events!

20160501_142951

We finally made it home Sunday evening and I am so grateful for B who could tell I was pooped and volunteered to make dinner. I was so worn out that even after 3 nights out, he could have convinced me to order pizza….shh don’t tell him I said that!

And that was my weekend. Not relaxing in the least, but fun.

Some questions for you:

  1. Do you tend to have good or bad flight karma?
  2. Do you have a favorite comedian?
  3. Have you ever been to Boston?

  • Have you seen any independent movies lately?

An uneventful weekend (coffee shop hopping)

It was a pretty uneventful weekend for me in Cleveland. The weekend consisted of dinner with friends, baby registry, running, working, crafting, running, working, board meetings and that’s about it. See? Do you really need to see what that looks like?

Well, in case you do, here it is.

B made dinner Friday night for our friends Dave and Anson and their baby girl. We had our own Friday fish fry dinner and it was delicious. They came over to help with our registry – and you know how fun that is! (sorry, registering for baby stuff is less-than-fun for me :))

But dinner was great. Mashed cauliflower, scallops and asparagus.

20160318_194633

Saturday morning started out with a run. Even though it’s now official spring (yay!) I woke up to 30 degree temps. Still, I made it outside for a 4.5ish mile run. I definitely am showing in my running clothes now!

20160319_112924

After the run, I had some work to catch up on so I hit up a coffee shop, The Gypsy Bean (Coffee Shop #1). This one shop has one of my favorite sandwiches – open faced hummus – and I had that with their quinoa tabbouleh. SO GOOD.

20160319_133249

Then it was time for Ladies Craft Beer Society! This month’s “craft” was making homemade cleaning supplies. We had an Irish/St. Patrick’s Day theme, so there was also boozy shamrock shakes (I had a sip of one – they were delish!).20160319_161611

And plenty of treats – some orange chocolate chip scones, as well as pull-apart reuben bread.20160319_163413

I brought cupcakes 🙂

20160316_204318

Saturday night was uneventful. I caught up on some college basketball (my bracket isn’t doing so well) and started watching a movie with B before falling asleep. We watched a documentary about the Barkley Marathon – these people are insane! And it’s sooo cool.

Sunday morning included some indoor miles before getting in some more work.

20160320_100742

Another day, another coffee shop to catch up on work. This time, my favorite tea at Phoenix Coffee.

20160320_131017

After catching up on some work, I had a board meeting to head to. I’m on the executive committee of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Cleveland, and we had our planning meeting on Sunday.

20160320_173112

And then it was time for Sunday dinner. Since I have to get some blood testing done at the doctor tomorrow, I had to stay away from the pasta and dessert 😦 At least the salmon and salad was delicious!

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your go-to all purpose cleaning supply?
  • If you have to catch up on work, where do you prefer to go – the office? Coffee shop? Your home?

Perfectly Ordinary Weekend

I had the perfect weekend. It may have been just perfectly ordinary, but it was perfect. It was a great mix of relaxing (definitely needed – I still feel like I’m playing catch up from last week!), catching up on work (again, still playing catch up), seeing friends, being productive and enjoying the outdoors. The only thing missing? Maybe some family time and a long run, but it will be a while until I’ll get in either of those!

Friday night started out with dinner/drinks with friends. One of B’s coworkers who moved to Seattle was in town and we were meeting up with her and some other people at 8 for dinner and drinks. Let me admit something – I haven’t met at 8 for dinner in a few months. Since being pregnant, my 8 p.m. often looks like PJ and TV time. But it was GREAT to feel like an almost normal person and meet up! We went to Bar Cento for some meatless Friday eats (pomme frites with their dipping sauce and pizza) and a few drinks (obvy none for me). Note – I didn’t take the pics below, I was actually not on my phone most of the night!

Not our pizza. This is from their website. And ours didn’t have meat. (Friday Lent)

Image via cleveland.com

Saturday morning B and I decided to be productive and start our baby registry. I’m not going to lie – setting up a baby registry is not as fun (at least for me) as a wedding registry. Mostly because the entire time these are the thoughts running through my mind:

  • Do we even need that? I don’t think those existed when I was a baby.
  • HOW many options exist for that?
  • Wait, that costs how much?
  • Half of the reviews say this is a life changer and the other half say DO NOT BUY or your baby will end up mangled, blind in one eye, allergic to every single nut, seriously traumatized, etc.

And there went our Saturday morning. Seriously, I think we spent four hours at Starbucks and registered for four things. Before we knew it, it was time to go view some houses. No – we’re not moving; but we’ve been looking at houses for several years now. We decided to go for a walk after looking at houses and came across the A Christmas Story House! (confession – I’ve lived in Cleveland for almost 10 years and I still haven’t seen the whole movie AND this was my first time seeing the house)

20160305_145846

We then hit up the West Side Market for the first time in a while and I was SO happy. We have been either out of town or busy on Saturdays and it was great to pick up some things again. I ❤ the Market!

20160305_153350

And it was already around 3:30 pm and we hadn’t eaten lunch yet, so we made a quick stop to Souper Market. Their curry cauliflower and chickpea soup hit the spot! Large chuck of bread not included.

20160305_160135

After Saturday afternoon Mass, B had plans to go to a high school basketball game. I decided to stay in and do some baking. Double fudge brownies. Yes, please!

20160305_205215

20160306_125648

Sunday morning started off a little early – I couldn’t sleep Saturday night (is this going to become a normal pregnancy thing?) because I couldn’t get comfortable, so I spent the morning cleaning a little and catching up on some work. I dilly dallyed until B got up and then finally got off my butt and went for a run.

Screenshot_2016-03-06-13-14-57

20160306_115346

It was the first run in a while that I’d run outside by myself. I don’t know why, but since I started to seriously show, I’d been a little anxious about running alone outside. But today, B didn’t feel like running and I knew I could do it on my own. So I did. Yup, it’s the little things – I’m proud.

The afternoon included some meal prep and grocery shopping.

My grocery store is prettier than yours, isn’t it?

20160306_141946

Oh and my favorite yogurt was on sale. Little things make pregnant me super happy 🙂20160306_140933

Speaking of being pregnant, I’ve really really popped. I’m a little more than 6 months now and can’t imagine 4 more months of this!

Getting Back in the Swing of Things

Happy Monday! If you’re like me, you’re back at work after a nice vacation thanks to the Christmas and New Years holidays. Hopefully you’re feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the year – or at least the year!

I had such a great New Years and weekend – the perfect relaxing and productive way to get me ready for the week ahead.

New Years Eve, B and I hung out with his family, family friends and Dave and Anson for an amazing meal, bubbly, drinks and of course, watching the ball drop. I unfortunately didn’t get to snap any pics of the food – but trust me. The seafood paella was the perfect last meal of 2015!

20151231_213256

B and I kicking off NYE

New Years morning, I slept in, and then B and I went for a short run around downtown. I’m going to try to be diligent and keep track of my miles in 2016 (unlike 2015…whoops) and since I’m back as a Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Ambassador, will be sharing my training with you as the training season begins.

The rest of the day was really low key. B and I went to his parents’ house and watched a looooot of college football and I caught up on some work and emails. We spent the evening watching movies – I have never seen the full Star Wars movies so we borrowed the tapes (yup, we still have a VCR!) from B’s parents and watched the first (or fourth?) one that evening.

20160101_191459

Saturday morning included some shopping at the West Side Market, going for a long walk, stopping for a latte and a scone in Tremont, and cooking some eggplant parmesan to share with friends.

Saturday night, we brought over some eggplant park to friends that had just had a baby. Their newborn is adorable and has a full head of hair – my favorite for babies!

We then enjoyed dinner at Dave and Anson’s with friends. And surprise- they made me hold Celia (I’m getting a little less scared of holding her) AND I even got to feed her!

20160102_184958

Sunday was another SUPER relaxing and low key day. After another short run with B, I spent the afternoon catching up on the Browns, watching the next Star Wars movie, reading, and meal prepping.

An eventful uneventful weekend

Annnnd another weekend is done, folks. And as usual, it went by waaayyyy too fast.

It was an eventful uneventful weekend – does that make sense? B and I didn’t have much planned, because I leave for a week of work travel today and needed some time to pack and catch up on work. That being said, it was semi-eventful. We spent some time in urgent care (spoiler: I’m okay) and also finding ourselves locked up in a Mormon church (semi-long story). But fall is here! And it’s beautiful.

IMG_20151018_161511

The weekend started with a Friday evening trip to urgent care. Don’t worry – I’m okay. I had been running Friday morning with Mary and accidentally tripped over a sign post that was on the sidewalk. I flew in the air and ended up seriously bruising my thigh and since it was pretty painful, hot and swollen, I decided to get checked out before flying for work. Good news – it’s just a muscle contusion and I should be back running again after a few days of ice and rest. And I’m clear to fly 🙂

After finding that out, since B and I were already on the west side, we decided to try a new place for dinner that has sen on my list – Forage. It was really good! We started with drinks and oysters at the bar and then got seated for our food. I’d definitely go back – we both loved our food and it was a neat, large place with lots of seating.

2015-10-16 21.11.42 20151016_203311

Saturday morning, B and I decided to go apple picking. It’s amazing how much time we have when I’m not running 🙂 I love apple picking and it was the first time we’d gotten to go this season. We came home with some apples, cider and an apple fritter.

20151017_103928

The apple fritter was seriously the size of my face.

20151017_110358

It was just about 11 a.m. when we were through apple picking, so we decided to explore the area. Turns out the first Mormon church happened to be just a few miles away. We stopped in and a tour was just starting. We were told the tour would be about 40 minutes, but we could leave early if we needed to. We had to be back in Cleveland by 12:30, so we decided to at least take part of the tour and see the church before heading out. Let’s just say the tour lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes and we were not able to just leave the church at any time – we tried to leave the church but the door wouldn’t open so we had to wait until after the tour.

the first Mormon church

After we left the church, we booked it to the baby shower. It was a co-ed shower, so B was invited too! It involved bowling, food,  some spiked apple cider AND homemade apple butter and jam for favors. Not a bad way to spend a fall Saturday 🙂

The weekend also included some other fall stapes – baking and the Browns.

I baked some apple bread with the apples we bought AND since it made two loaves, we brought one over to Dave and Anson and saw baby Celia again. She (and B) were ready for the Browns game!

20151018_105513 20151018_113551

The Browns ended up losing in overtime (ughhhh) but Sunday evening also included dinner with B’s family. It was the perfect fall meal – London Broil AND apple cake for dessert.

Linking up with Katie and Erin today!

Some questions for you:

  • Do you like apple picking? Have you gone this fall? um, of course!
  • What’s your favorite apple recipe?
  • Coed baby showers – yay or nay?  I say yay! The one we went to  was so much fine

Relay Race, Pizza and Street Festivals

The weekend started with a mini trip…to Akron! Akron is just south of Cleveland, and B and I had made last minute plans to spend the night in a hotel. Literally last minute. As in Friday morning, we booked a hotel.

Why? … Friday morning I was running the Akron Marathon Relay with a few of my Cleveland Marathon Ambassadors! Several of the ambassadors were running in the event (from the half to the full marathon), so a few of us got together and had signed up for the relay.

So Friday night started with the Race Expo. I love Race Expos. It’s so much fun to walk around all the booths, try out new goodies and buy running stuff. I was looking for a big headband (now that my hair is so short, I need a bigger headband to keep it back … ) but didn’t find one I liked. So instead, I came home with some new sports beans and Gu (salted caramel!). Finding salted caramel Gu at a race expo is apparently not as easy as it should be. We went to four booths before finding some!

After the Expo, B and I had dinner. We had gotten some Flaming Ice Cube – a pre-run eat staple in our household.

20150925_201036

Saturday morning started EARLY. As in 5 a.m. early (which would’ve been 4 a.m. if we’d stayed in Cleveland!)- I wanted to be at the start at 6:30 a.m. to meet my fellow Ambassadors for a photo!

After our photo opp, the race began. I’ll provide a separate race recap post, but I’ll just share the fact that despite having stomach issues (TMI?), I ran leg #2 faster than I expected and we finished under 4 hours for our marathon. Woohoo!

20150926_064539

The after race party was of course fun. Free beer, pizza and other goodies!

group pic

Shortly thereafter, B and I headed back to Cleveland. We hit up the driving range for a few buckets of balls to enjoy the nice weather.

20150926_134758

After that, I was super tired and we didn’t end up doing much that afternoon. We hit up Gallucci’s for some pizza supplies and then enjoyed homemade pizza for dinner.

With wine. And a side of Orange is the New Black. Because I still haven’t watched Season 3. I’m savoring it!

Sunday morning B and I took a walk to the Ohio City Street Festival.

We got some food, beer and watched the bratwurst eating contest.

Sunday night ended with dinner at B’s parents house and then a failed attempt to stay up late to watch the lunar eclipse blood moon.

Some questions for you:

  • Pizza: do you like thin crust or deep dish? NY style thin crust for me 🙂
  • Did you catch the blood moon?
  • Have you ever done any eating contests? Yes! I did a jello eating contest at camp once and a pie-eating contest at work. I didn’t win either 😦

Oh, weekends. How I love thee.

What a glorious weekend. It was the perfect amount of fun, productivity and even somewhat relaxing. I haven’t had one of those weekends in a while and I was definitely due for one!

Friday night, B and I played it low-key and decided to enjoy a patio meal. We hit up Sushi 86 and it was still warm enough to eat outside. I love warm September nights.

<3 me some sushi. Sashimi and rainbow roll

Saturday morning started somewhat early. I had plans to meet up with Mary to go for a run. She had 13 miles to run and I wanted to do 8, so I met up with her about 5 miles in. We ran a one-way route, which was fun for a change.

8miles

After the run, B and I went about doing normal Saturday stuff. We hit up the West Side Market and Hingetown for groceries, coffee, scones and kombucha.

20150919_111502

Then it was time for my monthly Ladies Craft Beer Society! This month we were drinking ciders and making leaf bowls! (craft: here)

Saturday night, B and I decided to have dinner while watching some games – so we hit up a sports bar and I found a drink that is a a combination of two of my favorite Southern Tier beers – Warlock AND Pumking! It tasted like fall in a glass.

Sunday, after a short workout, B and I headed to Dave and Ansons to girl out and watch the Browns game. The Browns ended up winning! We also had a really good meal – steak, watermelon, quinoa salad and some buckeyes that I had made for dessert.

20150920_142805 20150919_143132

It was such a gorgeous day that we decided to also walk to Mitchells for ice cream.

I know there are just a few days left where we can really enjoy the weather, so I’m trying to stay outside as long as possible. Thankfully, the weather for this week is looking amazing. Guess there may be some patio meals in my future!

Some things I’m looking forward to this week:

  • Some work travel. Two days out of the office means the week will FLY by!
  • Gorgeous weather.
  • Akron marathon relay this Saturday. I’m nervous (it’s my first relay), but I’m really trying to step outside my comfort zone!

Hope you have a marvelous Monday!

Some questions for you:

  • What’s your favorite type of sushi?
  • What are you looking forward to this week?

That’s What I Like About Sundays

Ok I know I gave you my weekend update post yesterday,  but this weekend was so great that it needs two posts.

In addition to camping, we had a pretty fun Sunday. We left our campsite first thing and after grabbing breakfast in downtown Ohiopyle, B had a surprise in store- he had made us reservations for a tour of Fallingwater! I had never been there and it was truly incredible.  If you’ve never been there before, I highly recommend it. I don’t want to hype it too much- but it’s a house built basically into a waterfall!  How cool is that?!

The house is literally above a waterfall – you can see the steps in the background of this picture leading to the water:

20150816_113123

And the house from afar:IMG_20150816_114147

That wasn’t all the day had in store. After we made it back to Cleveland, we headed down to Blossom. Blossom is the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra and we had tickets to their British Invasion performance. I love the orchestra and love love love The Beatles and Queen and they played both so I was in heaven. Plus,  we had packed a wine and cheese picnic for the show ….

So many of my faves!

So many of my faves!

20150816_191527 20150816_192322 20150816_195216

It was such a great show. We really lucked out with an amazing evening – great music and weather.

And that, concludes my weekend update posts. What a fun-filled, busy weekend! I feel like I may need a weekend just to recover. Yup, I’m ready for another one, already 🙂

Some questions for you:

  • Have you ever been to Fallingwater or other Frank Lloyd Wright attractions?
  • What did you do this weekend?
  • What’s your favorite cheese?
