School has half started and we are back to getting up early again! I was able to sleep in (to 6) Monday and Tuesday this week, but my son started 2nd grade on Wednesday and it was back to early mornings so I could get in a workout before waking him up. I’m still trying to figure out what time I need to wake up to get in a full workout in the mornings, and this week’s mileage reflects that – I didn’t get in as long of a workout on Wednesday to Friday this week, but hopefully soon we’ll back into our routine.
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 6.32 mi run, and 2 mile walk later in the day. It was nice out, so I opted outside for a 10K that was slower than I would’ve liked (10:40 min/miles, including lots of walking) but then got in a nice rejuvenating 2 mile walk at naptime. It was our last Sunday before soccer season starts, and I was glad to take advantage of it!
Monday: 5.02 miles miles run plus core workout. I enjoyed “sleeping in” and was able to get in a short trail run while it was getting light out. These will be put on the backburner for the coming months (except for weekends) as it will be too dark to run on trails the next few months!
Tuesday: 5.02 miles miles run plus core workout, then 1.2 mi walk (with about half of it running) later in the day. Last run around the lake near my house! I’ll miss my peaceful (light) mornings there, but again, too dark now. Later in the day, I ran about .6 miles with FW and walked the rest to soccer practice.
Wednesday: 4.01 mile run and core workout later in the day. I set an alarm for 5 a.m., but may need to set it earlier – I wasn’t outside until 5:20 and only had time to get in a 4 mile run before getting home to shower/get ready for the first day of school. I did get in time during lunch to do a quick core workout, but no additional mileage.
Thursday: 3.2 mile run, 15 minutes on the bike (4.7 miles) and core workout and 2 mi treadmill walk later It was wet outside – it had been storming all night and the sidewalks around me are shale and super slippery when wet, plus dark, so I wasn’t feeling a longer run. I got in a 5K (plus a little more on the treadmill later) and then hopped on the bike for the only time I had left. I was able to get in some walking while working on my “treadmill desk” in the morning as well to get in some more steps after my short run.

Friday: 5.01 miles run total. I woke up to darkness and heat. We had lost power in the middle of the night after a tornado (!) touched down west and east of us. I decided to still go out for a run, using my phone as a flashlight and then finding some streets nearby that did have power and sticking to those. I got in 4 miles before work, then 1 mile after work during my son’s soccer practice. During the day, we got a text saying that the power wouldn’t be back for FIVE DAYS (until 8/30)! I was worried, since the last time we lost power it really did stay off that long. Thankfully the power came back on that night any way!

Saturday: 3.3 mile stroller run then ~2.5ish mile family walk I got in a stroller run with GM in the morning, and then the whole family headed out to a nearby small lake that was having a few events going on that we decided to check out. It was a gorgeous morning after 2 days of crazy storms, and I was glad to be in nature with the family. They don’t usually have boats on the lake, but they did today and it was fun to see everyone on their SUP and kayaks.

Total mileage: 32.37 miles run plus 20 minutes on the indoor bike
Questions for you:
- Did you have any power outages this week or crazy weather? I was so glad when the power came back on before five days!
- When is it back to school near you? My oldest went back this week and my daughter starts kindergarten next week!
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Back to school is after Labor Day.
Yikes on the power outage. Glad things worked out for you.
Another strong week for you. All those mikes!!
You did really well with your mileage, all things considered! When my guys were little, I used to run at 4:30 am to get in and out before my hubs left for work. I still can’t believe I did that! Losing power is the worst! Luckily here, it doesn’t last too long.
Ugh, we only lost power for days a few years ago when a derecho went through the DC area. We stayed with my Mom and then had the sad task of throwing out EVERYTHING that had been in our freezer.
I’m sure you will figure out the school schedule soon, but the adjustment is tough!
We have lost power a few times this summer once for 12 hours. Glad yours was not too bad. It is tricky to come up w the right school schedule at first. You will get it I am sure. Hope the kids have a great year
We lost power for eight days, back in 2020, after the derecho destroyed our town. It was NOT fun, but manageable. Looks like you had a great week. Our local schools were back in session last Wednesday.
8 days?! Ahh!! Glad you haven’t had anything like that since!
ACK! I’m soooo glad you didn’t have to go five days without power! And I’m impressed that you can get up at 5 and be our the door for your run by 5:20- it takes me about 45 minutes to get out the door.
School is in full swing here! We started the 10th. I know, the first couple weeks are hard. And I only have one kid to deal with now!
Well done getting your running done, despite early mornings, power cuts, and – tornadoes!!
Other areas in our county are frequently hit badly during storms, but we’ve always managed to avoid longer power cuts. A friend of mine has told me she fills up the bathtub before every storm, in case the power goes – to use for flushing the toilet!
Wow, that’s dedication! I never would’ve thought of that!
Goodness gracious, 5 days without power would have been quite a challenge! Glad it didn’t end up being that long. Scary about the tornado, glad you’re okay!
Very impressive job getting up early in the dark! You are dedicated!
Tornadoes TERRIFY me. I’m glad your power came right back.
We are prepping for Hurricane Idalia right now. I hope it doesn’t do much.
Yay for kindergarten! A started his sophomore year on August 10, so we are well under way!
