We are finally feeling like back to school here! Yes, we started in August, but with FW starting first, then LM starting a few days, then with B and I getting sick, we weren’t realllly feeling the routine. But now that Labor Day has come and gone and we had our first true full week of school, it really does feel like we are back in our routine – or starting a new routine. I’m not going to lie – having two kiddos to get to the bus stop by around 7 a.m. and then another one that doesn’t go to school for another hour every day isn’t easy, but I’m grateful that so far we’ve been able to make it work!
Here’s how this week looked:
Sunday: 5.02 mi run. Getting in a 5 mile run on a Sunday is my favorite. I get to run in daylight, sleep in a little, and it starts my day off on a good note.
Monday: 5.69 miles total. A run before a busy day at work – definitely appreciated. And then I got in some running during the kids’ xcountry practice.

Tuesday: 5.06 mi run and 1 mi lunch walk. I felt TIRED on my run, but it was probably due in part to the fact that we didn’t get to bed until late on Monday night (to not starting dinner until 7:30 not feel well this day. I was up most of the night with chills and then feeling nauseous (and if you know me, you know that I don’t ever throw up … so naturally, I didn’t. But just felt positively awful all night/morning instead), so I took it easy during the day. I rested, worked, napped, worked and then got in a short walk to soak in some Vitamin D.
Wednesday: 5.16 miles run, then ~2.4 miles walking (am and lunch) and core work. I woke up early, but not early enough to get in core workout and a run, so I opted to get in a run. This was the best I felt all week in my run – getting to bed by 10 p.m. Tuesday night definitely helped! I was also able to get in a walk and some core work at lunch (yay for work-from-home Wednesdays!) and a short walk in the morning with GM after the big kids were on the bus. Wednesday was also B’s birthday, so the day included a mid-week excursion out to dinner to celebrate him (after FW’s soccer practice of course).
Thursday: 5.25 miles run, core work and ~5+ miles walking. I didn’t get much sleep Wednesday night, so getting out of bed was a struggle. FW had been sick so he ended up sleeping in bed with me, and anytime he stirred I was paranoid he would be sick again. I knew if I was going to have any mental power on Thursday I’d need to run, so I made it out of bed and out the door (and somehow earlier than the rest of the week). The run itself felt fine — maybe because I was too tired to know what I was doing! Later in the day, I got in over 5 miles of walking between a morning walk with GM, a lunch walk, walking to and from soccer practice and then a nighttime walk.
Friday: 3.5 miles run, core work and ~2 miles walking. I took the day off, and B and I got in a day date, walking around Stan Hywett estate and gardens in Akron, Ohio. I still got in a short run, core work and plenty of walking.

Saturday: 3.15 mile run I had been up late Friday night(past midnight) and struggled to get when GM woke up early Saturday. I was pleased with how I felt running, despite being tired. Then it was time for 2 soccer games and a piano lesson for FW.
Total mileage: 32.85 mi
Questions for you:
- Do you enjoy visiting old mansions or gardens?
- Did it start to cool down near you?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Oooh, rough week for you again, mama! Been there done that… and it was also tough when the boys were at different schools. I cannot complain about being empty nesters except that I miss having them around. I hope you have a better week!
Oh I’m sorry to hear there’s still sickness going on in your family. Well done getting all that running (and more!) done. Getting into a new routine takes some time, I can imagine, but I’m always impressed by how you manage to get everything done, being busy with small children. That little pond looks lovely! I really enjoy walking around in public gardens. The wilder, the better!
You’re definitely adept at running on less than perfect sleep! Part of having small kids, I’m sure. Impressive though!
Sounds like a rough week over there. Way to make the most of it. Those days can be so hectic but sounds like you are getting into your routine. It is starting to cool off in the mornings and I am all for it
UGH on the sickness and fatigue! It’s but a memory, but I thought the days would never end when my three kids were at three different schools (in three different parts of town). We didn’t have any bus stops close by, so I was the family “Uber” driver, LOL. We do what we can and, somehow, manage to get everyone to their respective places 😉
Oh how fun! I love that you got to enjoy a day date. Mornings have been a bit cooler in Central PA but afternoon is beautiful. Besides today, it has rained all day but should be a nice week.
I do enjoy touring old homes and gardens!
Looks like you have a good routine with your morning runs!
I LOVE old mansions and gardens and anything like it. It looks like you had a blast.
Glad you’re all feeling better and into a routine!
