No Snooze Challenge

After the last few weeks of snoozing so much, I decided to give myself a challenge for this week – the NO SNOOZE CHALLENGE. For my challenge, I would have to get out of bed and be downstairs before 4:45 a.m., or when my last alarm goes off. I wasn’t a snoozer in the past, but the past few weeks had been killing me with all the kid activities going on, and darker mornings so I knew I needed to kick the snoozing habit in the bud. Would I do it?

Here’s how this week looked:

Sunday:  10K run and 1.25 mi family walk FW’s soccer game was cancelled, so it was our first Sunday with no plans! I took advantage of this to get in a 10K run at my own time and pace later in the morning. Then, we got in a 1.25 mile walk with the family around the neighborhood. It was great 🙂

Monday: 6.07 miles total run plus core workout, 1.7ish mi walk and no snooze!  I was able to pull myself out of bed in time to get in a core workout and 5 mile run. Then, I took the kids to xcountry, so I was also able to get in about 1 mile run with them.  Between that and 2 walks during the day, I ended the day with 20,000+ steps.

Tuesday: 5.06 mi run plus core workout, and no snooze, plus 1.5 mi walking! I did take my time geting out of bed, but I was still out the door in time to get in a run and core workout.  I also got in some walking to and from soccer practice.

Wednesday: 5.05 miles run plus core workout, then ~4 miles walking (am and lunch) – and no snooze!  I didn’t snooze again! Between morning and afternoon movement, I got in a lot of miles on foot on Wednesday and racked up another 20,000+ step day.

Seen on my walk – a groundhog?

Thursday: 5.04 miles run, core work and ~2 miles walking – and no snooze!  I made it out of bed in time to get in a slightly longer core workout, plus 5 miles in between the rain. It was raining when I woke up but stopped when I went out, so I assumed I would only get in 2-3 miles before it started raining again. Luckily it stayed dry during my run! It started up again right when I was done, but an hour later when I went out for a walk with GM, it stopped again. We walked to get some bagels for the rest of our week.

Friday: 4.32 miles and core work – and no snooze! I didn’t snooze, got distracted on my laptop and ended up with less time than usual to get outside and run. Four miles felt good, and then it was time to go to Muffins with Mom at FW and LM’s school!

Saturday: 2.76 mile stroller walk/run and lots of walking. I had to run some errands before soccer games and birthday parties, so I took GM with me and we ran and walked to do them. He kept complaining he was cold and wanted to not run because it was windy, which worked because I didn’t want to run the full way anyway.

Total mileage: 34.5 mi

Questions for you:

  • Do you get out for walks or other activity during the workday?
  • How many alarms do you have set in the morning?

  1. It sounds like the no snooze challenge was a success this week! I’m having the opposite problem–waking up way too early and I can’t fall back asleep. Sounds like a good week for you!

  2. Honestly, I could not do it if I had to get up that early and also deal w young kids so kudos to you. I am not a snooze alarm person once I am up I am up. Looks like you had a solid week congrats

  3. You did it! You had a great week of running with no snoozing. I only set one alarm, but that’s enough for me (99% of the time… there was the time I somehow slept through it and was awakened later by my irate daughter, but let’s not speak of that.) I read somewhere that hitting your snooze alarm over and over again actually makes you MORE tired during the day- did you notice a difference this week?

  4. Oh, I need to do a no snooze challenge! I have two alarms, but they both are set up with 9 minute snoozes (the iPhone default), so I can get into trouble. Worse is when I accidentally turn them off instead of hitting snooze.

You got some great miles in this week!

  5. Good job on the snooze challenge! I only have one alarm and have never used my snooze button on the clock. I may have got up and reset the time for a later time, but I don’t have a clue what the snooze button even does (10 mins? 15 mins??). Darker mornings do make it tough to be motivated though!

  6. Nice job on conquering the No Snooze Challenge! I set one alarm, and usually wake up before it. I sometimes give myself a few minutes of “nothingness” in bed, before getting up, but I seldom ever fall back to sleep.

  7. I love the idea of this challenge. I have an obscene number of alarms and love my snooze, but might need to try this.
If I’m in the office I try to walk commute while it’s nice, otherwise steps are hard to cme by

  8. Way to go this week! I like the idea of the no snooze challenge. Very productive week for you, maybe thanks to the no snooze 🙂
