Before the Craziness Begins

I can’t believe the crazy/best time of year starts SO SOON. I really am not ready for the holidays this year.

Earlier this week, one of my coworkers asked me if I was traveling next week. Traveling? I thought. Why would I be …. oh yeah! I had no idea that Thanksgiving was a week away.

Don’t get me wrong – I am beyond excited to see my family and take some time off work next week. But the month has flown by and I’m not ready to get everything done that needs to get done before Christmas is here!

Luckily, we had a pretty low-key week. There were only 3 days after work with something on the calendar (kids practices and my committee meeting), and even though I was tired in the mornings and hit snooze too much, I still got in some good miles and time on the indoor bike. Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 6.27 miles running + 2.45 miles walking with the fam. It was a beautiful day and after my run, we got out for another hike with the family. We hiked along a bird trail that had a lookout over the lake, which was pretty. There was only minimal complaining from the big kids and GM walked almost 2 of the 2.5 miles on his own.

Monday: 5.1 mile run, short core workout and 1.33 mile walk. I woke up late, so only had time for a short core workout. I was still pleased to get in 5 miles and a morning walk with GM before work.

Tuesday: 5.12 mi run plus core workout, 1.25 miles walking and 21 minute indoor cycling. This run felt good nearly the whole time, which doesn’t always happen. I was also able to get in some time on the indoor bike while doing work in the afternoon.

Wednesday: 5.32 miles run, 3 mile walk, longer core workout and 35 minute indoor cycling. I felt GREAT on this run! I finished it at just under 10 min/mile pace, which hardly ever happens these days (and used to be my slow pace but we won’t go there …). I got in some more indoor cycling during work as well.

Thursday: 4.04 miles run, ~2 mile walk and core workout. I could not get out of bed Thursday morning and my feet were a little sore, so I knew this run would be a struggle. But after 2 miles in, I felt pretty good and was glad to be outside. It was even seasonably warm – I was wearing capris (with gloves of course). I didn’t get out early enough to get in a long walk

Friday: 5.1 mi run, core workout and 1 mile walking. I got up early and ran in some warm weather (shorts!) but some rain. I didn’t really mind the rain though because it was 60 degrees. I then got in a 1 mile walk with GM between showers.

Saturday: 4 treadmill miles run and 30 min indoor cycling I was home with the kids all morning amd knew that if I wanted to get in a workout, it would have to be an indoor one. I got in 4 miles on the treadmill and then took the kids downstairs to play while I sat on the bike.

Total mileage: 34.91 mi

Questions for you:

  • Still warm near you or is it cooling down?
  • Do you ever work while on a bike? I’ve found it fun to do that this week.

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

I’ve been neglecting my stationary bike.

It’s been cold early but not bad later.

Of course I forget how to dress between seasons.

Are coming up to my area for the holidays?

Yes!! I will be in for a day during Thanksgiving (probably less than 24 hrs) and hopefully during Christmas week too!

I’m glad for you about that great Wednesday run!
I always think I’ll plan some work projects while on the bike, but it never happens. Perhaps if I choose a flatter route (I use Zwift) so I don’t need to focus so much on the ride but just go with the flow. Here we’ve had everything from almost frost to 55+ F this week, mixed with insane winds and rain and sun… lol. As long as ice and snow stays away I’ll be happy enough.

I feel like Thanksgiving is here way too soon, but I got most of my grocery shopping done yesterday — phew. Now I’m dreading all the apples I’ll be peeling for my pie.

I don’t think I could work on my bike. I need to concentrate too much on both!

I agree, Thanksgiving really seemed to arrive sooner than usual this year! I have never attempted to “work” on my bike (too many monitors, etc.), but I have been known to do a lot of blog reading on it 😉

Yes, if I finish a run under 10:00/mile now it’s incredible, and like you, it used to be my “slow” pace. SIGH. But whatever- we’re out there doing it! You got a lot of good running in this week.
Yes, I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving already, but you know what’s really stressing me out? All these people talking about sending their Christmas cards or starting their holiday shopping. I actually know one person who is already WRAPPING GIFTS. GAH! I feel so behind.
