We had a wacky week here. First, my car wouldn’t start due to a dead battery. But I had just gotten a new battery less than a year ago, so I was really worried that something else was up. Then, GM got a stomach bug and was home sick. Then, we had workers in our home one day to put in new floors in our basement to hopefully help with some of the flooding issues we have. I know it’s only a few things, but having various reasons to keep me at home and not in the office and not in my normal routine really threw me off this week. Thankfully, I managed to keep up my workouts, which helped me STAY SANE. This week, I even got in some cross training one day, which I hardly ever do (and was one of my goals last year). I’m proud to have done a short kettlebell workout (15 min kettlebells) and row one mile in addition to running. I know it’s not much, but you have to start somewhere, right? I also ended up getting in lots of lunchtime workouts with the lack of a car this week, which meant I had time to get in a few extra miles during my day. I ran 2 miles a few days day at lunchtime, which brought me to 40+ miles for the week, the longest I think I’ve done since marathon training years ago!
Here’s how the full week looked:
Sunday: 5.11 outdoor miles – The roads were slicker than I would have liked, as it started flurrying while I was running. Nothing was really sticking but it made some spots slippery and hard to see. I actually almost turned home to run on the treadmill when I found a long street that was pretty clear, so I just ran up and down it a few times to hit my 5 mile goal.
Monday: 7.18 miles on the treadmill plus core workout – I kicked off Monday with 5 miles on the treadmill before work, then 2ish at lunchtime. I couldn’t tell if it was still slippery out, so decided to play it safe.

Tuesday: 4 treadmill miles, plus a kettlebell workout and 1600 meters on the rower, then core workout and 1.5 mi walk- I actually was all ready to run outside when I looked at my phone and noticed it was heavy winds and then started to pour! So I decided to try something new, and did a 15 minute kettlebell workout. I think my kettlebells were a little too heavy for me, but I’m glad I did something different. I then did 1600 meters on the rower before finishing up on the treadmill and core workout and treadmill walk later in the day. As much as I say I’m okay with not running, I feel better after a run!
Wednesday: 5.13 miles outside and core work – I’m so glad I got in my morning miles because after I came home, GM threw up and was home sick for the day. Needless to say, I didn’t get in any mid-day workouts with a sick two year old hanging on me. Which wasn’t too bad because my legs were SORE after all my kettlebell squats!
Thursday: 7.07 miles (divided between outside and dreadmill) and core work – I got in 5ish miles before work outside and then 2ish miles on the treadmill. My legs were still tight from the kettlebells on Tuesday, so it was hard to get started running. But once I did, they really loosened up!
Friday: 7.23 outdoor miles (divided between before work and lunchtime) and core work – I got in a windy 5 mile run in the morning before work. Then at lunch time, I was feeling itch to get in a short run outside. The weather for the coming days looks unpleasant, so I wanted to get our when I could. 2.23 miles later and I was back at work!
Saturday: 5 treadmill miles – It was supposed to be super windy and snowy, so I opted inside. Instead, we just had high winds and it didn’t really snow in the morning (no complaints here!) but I felt pretty good on the treadmill anyway. I was going to run 3, but then looking at my week, I realized I had an opportunity to get in more miles in a week than I’d gotten in a few years, and decided to stay on. 5 miles total brought me to 40+ miles for the week!
Then it was time for FW’s basketball
Total mileage: 41.74 mi
Questions for you:
- Do you ever work out at lunch?
- Are you expecting bad weather?
