Are you still injured? Are you back at running? How are you feeling?
Those are all questions I get asked. And the answer, is that I don’t know!
I decided to give running a try this week, but slowly/short runs only. Meaning, 2 runs – a 1 mile and a 3 mile.
During each run, I felt a little tight, but nothing else.
After each run, I did stretching and felt a little tight, but nothing else.
Did I feel normal? No. Is the tightness actually tightness or is it the injury starting back up again?
I don’t know! So we’ll see how next week goes. In the meantime, here’s how this week looked:
Sunday: 30 minutes on the indoor bike, core work and 1.7 mi walk– GM woke up early, so I got in a bike ride with him. My parents were in town and we decided to go to the childrens museum, and when we decided that I hopped off the bike for a quick shower so we would get there as early as possible. It gets crowded during the day, and I’m glad we got there when we did – we were able to avoid the bigger crowds, who came after we’d already been there for an hour or so. Later in the day, I took a walk with my dad and it was good to get outside in the sunshine after the two days of snow we’d had. Some areas were a little icy, so we stuck to our neighborhood.
Monday: 55 minutes on the bike plus some arms and core work, before starting our day off. The kids all had school off and I was able to spend the day with them. B took off too, and we started our morning with some time at an indoor gym so the kids could all run around. My niece wanted to run, so I took her hand and ran some laps with her. I was surprised that my leg didn’t seem to hurt. The runs were short and slow to keep up with her, but even so, it encouraged me that maybe I could try an easy run again?
Tuesday: 1 hour on the bike with arms plus core work before work.
Wednesday: 1 hour on the bike, 2.4 mi walk, plus core work – I was working from home and able to also get in a walk at lunch time, which doesn’t always happen. It was muddy after the snow melting, but warm out – I wore a sweatshirt and vest and was hot!

Thursday: 48 min on the bike plus core work – I had been up late Wednesday night because I attended a Moms Night Out for my kids’ school, and I was TIRED Thursday morning. I snoozed for 35 minutes! I somehow still got on the bike and interestingly enough, my heartrate was much higher than usual. So even though it wasn’t as long as I wanted, it was technically a “harder” workout.
Friday: ~30 minute bike ride and 3.15 mile run, plus ~4.5 miles walking plus core work and stretching – I woke up to 40 degrees and fog, and decided to see how my leg would feel running. I planned to get in 2 miles, but when you’re outside I find it’s so much easier to go longer. After 1 mile, I decided to try for 1.5 and promised to myself that I would turn back and aim for 3. After the run, my leg felt alright. I got in my core work, hip/leg strengthening exercises, and then a short bike ride. I was able to get in two walks during the day, too,, bringing me to 4.5 miles. I got in many more steps than I had gotten in a while, so hopefully it won’t impede my recovery.
Saturday: 45 minutes on the bike and core work, then 3 mile walk later – GM woke up early again, so I got in a bike ride before everyone else in the house was awake. My legs were a little bit sore but it could be from the fact that I hadn’t run in 2 weeks. I’m going to try to run again for a little on Sunday and see how I do! I’m trying not to feel too optimistic.
The rest of the day was busy – we had lots of kid activities and errands — piano lessons, grocery shopping, Target run, ice skating lessons, a birthday party and a friend dinner/playdate. Luckily after I dropped FW at the birthday party, I had some time to myself and got in a 3 mile walk in between errands and our activities– it was nice to walk somewhere new!
Stay tuned for how Sunday goes …. will I run? Will it feel okay?
Questions for you:
- Are you seeing signs of spring near you? we had snow that melted in 50 degress, and then cold again. Typical February weather though!
- Are your weekends hectic or relaxing? We had a relaxing weekend a few weeks ago but this weekend is busy, thanks to kid activities.
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
