Our weather this week was another wild ride – we had 70 DEGREES on Monday with sun, then it cooled down to 30s, then went up again, and we’re due for cold and snow today. And I clearly have 3 little ones, because all I thought of was, The weather in the (Cleve)land goes up and down, to the tune of Wheels on the Bus, one of my 2-year-old’s favorite song.
I’m not complaining – the 70+ degree weather on Monday was amazing. It was 55 degrees when I woke up so I got in an unplanned run. I got in 2 walks that day. Every little bit of sunshine helps and it’s amazing what some natural vitamin D can do for your spirits!
Sunday: 5.16 miles run outside and 3+ miles walking, core work and leg stretching — I had planned to get in just 3 miles before we spent our morning at Pancake Town (keep reading), but I woke up a little earlier than my alarm and decided to get out and get in a little more running in the “warmer” (40s) morning temps.

Early Sunday run
I was done running by 7 a.m. which doesn’t happen often on a weekend, but we were heading out to Pancake Town USA, which is actually Burton, Ohio. Every spring they have a bunch of pancake fundraisers and use maple syrup from their local trees, so we try to hit up their fire department for all-you-can-eat pancakes whenever we can. It did not disappoint!

Later in the day while the little ones napped, I got in an outside walk, first walking FW to a friend’s house and then just kept walking to enjoy the sunshine. It had warmed up to 60s by then and the sun was out. I ended the day with 21,000+ steps, which hasn’t happened in a while, especially with my injury. Don’t worry, I also got in leg stretches and some core work to keep strong and make sure my leg felt ok.
Monday: 4.03 miles running, 10 minutes cycling, 4.8 miles walking and core work and leg stretches – Monday it hit mid-70s so I had to get outside. I hadn’t planned on running 2 days in a row (I’m trying to take it easy after my injury) but I woke up to mid-50s and had to get outside. I took it relatively easy for the 4 miles, and then cooled down on the bike. I then got in 2 walks during the day, one with GM and one during lunch, to fully take advantage of the weather. It was mid-70s at 1 pm!

Tuesday: 16.4 miles on the indoor bike, lots of core and stretching and about ~2 miles walking — After two days of running in a row, I knew I needed to take it easy today. I kept the resistance relatively low on the bike, did about 55 minutes, and then go tin a short walk in the morning (before work) and at lunch break with coworkers. It was 75 degrees at lunch!
Wednesday: 5.14 miles running outside and 2.86 miles walking — It was drizzly and foggy in the morning, but I got up and out running. I also got in a walk with GM, before work and a short walk during lunch. I did my stretches, but not too much core work in the morning outside of my usual planking.
Thursday: 6.07 miles running outside, core work and 1.35 mi walk — I have no idea what happened, but I snoozed almost 30 minutes in the morning so I just immediately started running when I got out of bed – no stretching or core work until later in the day. About halfway through my run I was feeling pretty good and realized the weekend weather wasn’t looking great, so I decided to get in my “long” run (I’m only at 6 miles right now in training) and see how my leg was feeling. It felt a little sore but nothing awful. I got in a short walk at lunchtime to round out my day – it was 55 degrees and sunny and I had to get out!
Friday: 4.1 mile run outside plus core work, 5 minutes on the bike and hip stretching and 1.9 mi walk — I woke up to almost 50 degrees so I decided to get in a short run. My hip was feeling tired so I took it easy, got in some walking breaks, and then stretched when I got home. Then I took a walk with B and GM in the stroller before school, which was nice until GM decided he wanted to run when we were almost a mile away from home … luckily we distracted him and he stayed put until we made it home.
Saturday: 55 minutes on the bike and some core work, then 2.72 miles walk later in the day. I reallllly wanted to go out for a run but I’m trying to embrace core work and rest days. So bike it was! I was lucky enough to get in a long walk at naptime too – before the storm!
I am thinking I’d like to get in a short run on Sunday, but we’re due for a SNOW storm again so we’ll see if I play it easy. Especially with my recovery, I don’t want to run on uneven ground if I don’t have to.
Questions for you:
- What’s your next race on your calendar?
- Is wintry weather on your way too this week?
