ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL RACE DAY!
I guess I should be excited, or reflective, or something, but at this point, I’m just ready for the day to be here.
I leave this morning for a work trip, so I’m gone most of the week before flying back and hopping right into race weekend! Not ideal, but it is what it is. The good news is it makes taper easy (this week I won’t have much time for running … but I will be on my feet most of the time), and it keeps my mind off the impending race weekend!
Anyway, here’s how this week went. I got in my first stroller run in a while and a few short/long runs (less than double digits but more than my typical 3-5 mi), but with work being busy before my trip, I didn’t have time for much else.
Sunday: 5.1 stroller miles! Plus 26 minutes on the bike, some core and arms, and 2.88 mi walk. I had done a long run on Saturday so was just planning on going out for a short run if my legs felt good. Well, GM woke up early and it was nice out, so I decided to take him on a stroller run. We hadn’t had a stroller run since last year (maybe in the fall?) and it was fun! He enjoyed it for the most part, and only asked to go home a few times. Thankfully I had brought food, milk and a few books to keep him occupied.

Monday: 4.25 miles running plus core workout and 3.6 miles walking. My legs were tired, so I opted for a shorter run which turned into a run/walk, followed by a short bike ride. I got in another walk with GM before school and my legs were feeling okay by then.
Tuesday: 5.01 miles running, short plank workout and 1.77 mile walk. It was another busy day, but I was glad to get in a run and walk before work. During the day, I pretty much stayed working and didn’t get in any walks — next week is our annual meeting and I’m using every spare minute I can to make sure things are perfect!
Wednesday: 4 mile run and 1 mile walk. I woke up early to work, and after getting a few things done, had time for a 4 mile run. It was 60s already at 5 a.m., which was warm and good practice for race day! I got in a mile walk with GM before heading into the office for a full day.
Thursday: 4 mile run. Again, I was up early working, but glad to get in a short run. It’s taper season, but still feels weird not to do much in the morning.
Friday: 8 mile run outside and then 1.94 mi walk. I was pooped Friday morning, but somehow made it out of bed and out of the house for a run. I really wanted to get in “one more long-ish” run before next week’s travel and then race day, but wasn’t sure it was going to happen with how tired I was. I did my first few miles fast (for me) and felt pretty good, and decided to try to get 7-8 in. I was running a little late, but still decided to keep my goal of 8 and got it in! I didn’t have time for core work or stretching, but did get in a walk with GM to buy some bread before my day. Later in the day, we went out to dinner in Little Italy with the family, which we haven’t done in months. It was nice to get a dinner out to celebrate an early Mother’s Day (I’m traveling for work Sunday) and enjoy some of my favorite Italian ice.

Saturday: 8.07 easy miles. I decided to get in a longer-ish run before a day full of activities (baseball, soccer, piano, birthday party), but my legs were tired from the past few days. I enjoyed my daylight run, as I got to run in areas I don’t run during the week. Right as I was finishing my run (about .5 miles from home) it started to rain. Luckily I made it home before the rain really came down – it was such a downpour for the next few hours that baseball and soccer cancelled!
Total miles: 38.55 miles running
Questions for you:
- Are you doing anything in honor of Mother’s Day today? I’m traveling for work!
- Do you do anything to get ready for a half marathon when it’s a week or less away?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
