That’s Hot

Welp, it definitely felt like summer this week! It was HOT and HUMID, which made for some sweaty and sticky runs. Most days this week were in the 90s, but “felt like” 100+. We don’t get a lot of that in Cleveland, and honestly, I don’t mind it. I much prefer this weather than sub 20-degree temps, which it feels like we get more of!

I’ve always been a hater of the cold. If I get cold, I feel that with no matter how many layers, I can’t get warm. I’ll wear sweater after sweater and sweatshirt and blanket, and I stay cold. But for me, the second I step into AC, I cool down. I know not everyone is like that, and maybe I’d feel differently if I lived somewhere it was hotter and more regularly 90+ degrees, but I can’t complain about this week! I still managed to get in some runs and walks, just a little slower and sweatier than usual. AND we had swim lessons M-Th, so I spent some time in the pool (mostly holding GM, not actually swimming unfortunately) most evenings so I stayed cool that way!

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 5 mile run –  On Father’s Day, B has a tradition of going golfing with his dad and brothers. They leave EARLY (5 a.m.), get finished around lunchtime, and then we celebrate Father’s Day with his parents until usually late afternoon. That means I don’t often get in a run because of that – there’s no time, and it’s B’s day! But this year, I opted to set an alarm early (3:45 a.m.) on Sunday so that I would have the time to get in a run. After the run, I also got in an indoor bike ride, some core work and light arm workout.

Monday: 6.21 mile run, stretching and core work – I was glad to get in a run in the heat, and glad to get in an unanticipated 10K. I finished with 15 minutes on the indoor bike to “cool down”, but I stayed pretty hot!

Tuesday: 6.22 miles running, planking and pushups, and 13ish minutes on the bike, then 1.2 mile walk – I woke up at 5:30 and it was already feels like in the 80s! It was steamy but I was glad to get in another 10K in the morning and short walk in the middle of the day in between meetings.

steamy

Wednesday: 5.02 miles running, 17 minutes indoor bike, light arm work, plank and stretching, then 1 mile walk– I got out of bed early but was SLOW on my run. The air felt SO heavy to me, and I was having a hard time breathing during my run. I decided to walk/run 5 miles, then cool down at home on the bike and with some light kettlebells for arms.  I got in a mile walk at lunchtime, but man, it was hot.

Thursday: 5 miles running, core work, 22 minutes on the indoor bike – It was another HOT day, and I had plans to take the afternoon off and start celebrating FW’s birthday with a Guardian’s game, so I wanted to wake up early and run. It was hot outside but for some reason the nearly 70% humidity didn’t bother me as much as it had on Wednesday. When I got home and did my core work the kids were all still sleeping, so I stayed on the bike a little longer before starting my day.

Friday: 5 mile run and then ~1 mile walk – I had the day off to do a fun activity with FW, so I woke up a little early but not too early and got in another STEAMY run. Later, we went to a cool Ninja Warrior gym near us and the kids beat the heat while running, jumping, climbing the warped wall and more.

Saturday: hot 5 mile run – This morning I didn’t get out to run until 7:30 and it was already “Feels like” upper 80s. Yikes! I did a lot of walking on this run but was glad to get out and be outside for a little in the morning. I downed some water and liquid IV when I was done – had to replace all the sweat I lost!

I stopped to take a photo at each mile – you can see how progressively sweatier I get ha.

Total: 37.89 mi of running plus some indoor cycling!

Questions for you:

  • Are you watching the Olympic trials? I have been loving watching the track and field events!
  • Was it hot near you this week?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

I think all of us are writing about the heat this week, lol. Yes, it was brutally hot by me as well. I did get outside for all my runs–I just laced up earlier than I usually do. The trails helped a lot to shade me. It sounds like you had a fun week in spite of the heat! Happy birthday to your big boy!

not sure if my comments are going through! Yes it was super hot here too and I did not run as much as normal. Just can’t do it. I would rather run in a blizzard! Happy birthday to your son

Oh, and I’d rather run through 80 degrees and a little humid than a blizzard 🙂 I hate being cold!

Yes, I am watching the Olympic trials. I LOVE seeing the runners.

When I lived up north, I felt like you do. I was always cold in the winter, and embraced the summer heat. Now that I live in Florida, the heat bothers me more and more each year. Not sure if it’s an age thing? Anyway… enjoy your summer runs! Sounds like you’re thriving.

I’m so impressed with how early you got up on Sunday so you could get outside to run before your husband left to golf for Father’s Day. That’s dedication!

I haven’t watched any of the Olympic trials, but I’m looking forward to the Olympics!

And yes, it’s been very hot here in Virginia as well!

What a very cool gym the kids went to! Love it. We are fans of American Ninja Warrior. Great way to get kids interested in sports!

It’s just so hot everywhere. I LIKE summer, but this is too much. TOO MUCH!

    Please stay safe out there.

So many celebrations in your neck of the woods. We had a bit of a different Father’s Day with dropping A at camp all day, but we are back in business. Next up? The 4th!
