Back to our Summer Routine

After two weeks of back to back long weekend vacations, I’m back into the swing of things and back to our routine. At least our summer routine that is! Summer is still more relaxed, even if we do have a routine, and after a few vacations, it was a little hard to get back into the swing of things.

The week started off in Toronto, but we came back Sunday night and then were home every day this week. We are between sports seasons and it was nice to not have too much going on besides nightly swim lessons and a weekend piano lesson. I am still hanging onto summer as long as I can!

This week also ended my July — which was a good month working out wise. Here’s how the month looked:

  • Total Miles: 159.88 miles
  • Additional workouts, including walking, hiking, planking, push ups and indoor cycling
  • 2 vacations – which included working out on the vacation most days
  • No injuries

Sunday: 5.12 mile run and push ups –  This was my last morning in Toronto, and because Grant woke up early, I was able to get in a 5 mile run before we joined my parents for breakfast and got back on the road. I made sure to stop a few times along the run to take photos – I enjoyed running through the city and along their waterfront path! Toronto, I will miss you.

Monday: 5.31 mile run, 10 minutes indoor bike, core workout, push ups, ~2 mile run – Man, it was HARD to wake up when my alarm went off! I started off the workout with a core workout to get warmed up, and then I got out for a run. I enjoy my summer running paths, so at least I didn’t mind returning to those for the morning.

Tuesday: 5 miles running, core workout – I could NOT get out of bed! I think I must have slept through an alarm or two because by the time I got out of bed, I didn’t have time to get in a lengthy workout. I did a core workout and then got out the door for 5 slow miles.

Wednesday: 6.21 miles running, pushups and core workout, then 10 minutes swimming- I was glad to get in a morning 10K. I thought about cooling down on the bike (it was STEAMY out!) but when I got home, GM was already awake so I opted to start the day and get into work a little early. That evening, while Grant had a swimming lesson, I got in about 10 minutes of laps in the pool! I haven’t swam laps in at least a year, and it was hard but felt good!

Thursday: 7.01 miles running, pushups and core workout, then 1,000 yard swim later on – I made it out the door with a little extra time to get in another mile, so I opted for 7 steamy and humid miles before starting my day. Before heading out I did my core workout and pushups, so that I wouldn’t be tempted to skip them and run longer instead. I’m trying to prioritize doing them and I find it easy to skip them and instead run longer and then run out of time. That night at the kids’ last swim lessons, I got in another swim. This time, it was 1,000 meters and I felt so good!

Friday: 5.02 mi run, 15 minutes on the indoor bike, push ups and planks,1 mile walk – It was a hot and humid morning! The humidity was 95% when I went outside and I was a sweaty mess by mile 2. I did stop to walk a few times so the 5 miles was slow. I cooled down on the indoor bike before starting my day. TGIF!

Saturday: 3.5 miles running, push ups and planks – I woke up so early in California thanks to jetlag, but my friend Alisa was also awake and asked if I wanted to go for a run. We got in about 3.5 miles, including some beautiful beach miles, at least 1 on the sand. I did some planking and push ups after as well.

Total: 39.53 mi of running plus some indoor cycling workouts, planking and push ups

Questions for you:

  • How often do you travel?
  • How do you feel about beach running?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Wow–great mileage for steamy July!!! I’m not a fan of lap swimming, but you know I love the water for other activities.

When do your kids go back to school?

I also love swimming in the summer. I used to do it so much more and always forget how much I enjoy it. Always good to mix things up. That is a lot of miles for a steamy month

Vacations are great, but it’s always nice to get home again!

Glad you were able to beat the rain with your run. The weather channel app always gets it wrong for me.

I’m very impressed with your weekly mileage as usual! Nice work getting out there with the heat and humidity. When I read your post I wondered if I could start a new routine to get pushups done every day. You’re inspiring me so much with that! Perhaps I should start doing them before my morning coffee since I need to wait for the machine to heat up anyway!

No HHH here but at least we’ve had summer weather this week!

Not a swimmer here, but I wish I was! I have a phobia/OCD (?) of being splashed in the face unless I’m the one doing it, LOL. Nice July miles 😉 Great job with the extras (planking, pushups, core, etc.).

Sadly, I don’t swim for fitness! I just float around in my pool for fun 🙂

Hope everyone is easing back into routine before school starts. Summer is going by too fast!

Sounds like you had a great week and a great month of July! Yes, it’s still HHH where I am and it will be for a while. There was a phase of my life where I swam laps regularly, but I don’t do it anymore. Watching the Olympics is making me miss swimming though. It’s great cross training for a runner.

It’s always hazy, hot, and humid here. I feel like that’s the way we exist. Sigh.

I don’t swim very often. Plus the water is so hot right now.

Great month for you! I can’t wait to see what’s next.
