Feeling Jolly

If by feeling jolly I mean full of holiday events and (of course) sugar, then the title of this post is true. We had 3 different holiday concerts this week – each of the kids put on a holiday performance, AND I went on a cookie-baking spree this week/over the weekend and I am so full of sugar that I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing!

Here’s some of what I made:

Thankfully, I have running to balance (?) it all out. And weight lifting. I’m still doing my weight training and keeping up with my mileage, and have been lucky to feel good since my broken toe in September. As the year winds down, I’m grateful to at least be injury free for now, and feeling stronger than I was this time last year.

Here’s how the week went:

Sunday: 8.02 treadmill miles –  I woke up to an ice storm. It was turning to rain, and I really wanted to get in a long run, so I started putting on my long leggings when my husband asked if I was planning on running outside. I said I was, especially since I didn’t want to bother him/the kids with the treadmill (it’s in the living room right now and very loud). He encouraged me to give it a try and said he’d keep the kids away while I ran. I’m so grateful he did that – I not only would’ve gotten soaked since it poured the entire time, but I’m sure it would’ve been a slippery mess thanks to the morning’s ice. I am surprised I was able to get in such a long run on the mill – this is definitely my longest treadmill run in a long time!

Later in the day we had holiday performance #1 – FW’s Christmas pageant at school – he was a wise man and did a great job!

Monday: Chest and tri workout, shoulder 7 miles on the indoor bike, 8 minute abs, 5.57 miles run, 1.6 mile walk – I woke up to 40 degrees and dry weather and clearish roads! After the full day of rain on Sunday, the snow and ice had melted and I was dying to get in a run outside. So instead of getting in a real bike workout, after I did my chest and tricept workout and abs, I got outside. I felt good nearly the entire run – I was expecting sore legs after the 8 miler on the treadmill and a few other treadmill days, but they felt good! If I hadn’t been running late to get ready for work, I would’ve gotten in more. I also got in a 1.6 mile walk at lunch.

Tuesday: shoulder and leg workout, start of back/bicep workout, diastasis recti workout, 4.58 miles run  – I stayed in bed longer than I wanted to, and after my shoulder/leg workout, I only had time for some abs and a run. I delayed getting outside but as almost always happens, I wished I had longer to finish and get in 5 miles. But I only had time for 4.5ish before starting my day. I had a mid-day dr appointment and then an event at night, so no time to get in any real walks during the day.  BUT FW asked if he could lift some weights after school, so I started my bicep/back workout and showed him how to do bicep curls. He’s getting so old – I’m not used to him wanting to do these types of things!

Wednesday: Finished my bicep and back workout,  diastasis recti workout, 5.32 miles run, 10 minutes on the bike – I was looking forward to getting in another run – but it was a little colder and my body felt slow and tired. I had stayed out late Tuesday night for a mom’s night out event and, of course, still woke up early to work out, so I didn’t get in as much sleep as usual. I was slow moving around my house to get ready, but when I went outside I was glad to feel good for nearly the full run.

That night was GM’s school concert. And after, a special visitor came to see the preschoolers! We got in a kid photo before taking LM to her ballet class (thus her outfit).

Thursday: Finished leg workout, 6.05 miles run I really wanted to get in a longer-ish run because I had a busy day at work and tend to feel better about those and more productive if I run, so I quickly did my leg workout and then went for my run. I got in just over 6 miles at under 10 minutes/mile pace, which was fine by me! It was chilly but I felt good most of the time.

That night was LM’s turn for her performance! I didn’t get a good pic of her performing, but of course snapped a photo of her getting ready.

Friday: 5.06 slippery miles, 15 minutes indoor cycling – I was eager to get in an outdoor run since we were due for snow later in the day and into the weekend, but it was starting as I was running. This made a few of the miles slick and I had to stop and walk to avoid wiping out. I also got in 15 minutes on the indoor bike before it was time to start my day.

Saturday: 3.25 treadmill miles, pushups and planks – We had another early Saturday thanks to sports, so I got in a short treadmill run right after the kids woke up. I had originally planned on getting outside to run while they slept, but GM woke up just as I was getting ready to go outside AND it was looking slippery/icy, so I hung out with him for a little bit and got him ready for the day before getting in a shorter-than-planned run.

Total:  37.85 miles running! Plus weight training and indoor cycling.

  9. What a fun (and busy) week you had with the kiddos’ events, and those cookies look delicious! Nice job on the longer treadmill run and keeping up with your workouts in general during your hectic schedule.

  10. Your kids are adorable and those cookies look yummy.

No baking since the kids are grown but I’ve eaten plenty at several parties.

Congrats on fitting in all the runs too.

Coming to the parents at all? (iow my area)

  11. Those cookies look incredible and your kids are too cute! That Santa picture is the sweetest!

Way to go getting everything in, especially with all the ice and awful weather. It’s cold here, but not like that at all.

Hope you all have the Merriest Christmas!

  12. Oooh! I LOVE your cookies! I need to step up my game. And yes- I’m SURE all the running and strength you’re doing balances out the sugar ; )

I love all the holiday concerts and performances- your kids are adorable.

  13. I got a lot of baking done last weekend, but haven’t had time to any more since. I’m hoping to do one more batch of cookies tomorrow night & drop off some goodies to my neighbors on Tuesday. Hoping you have a great holiday break!
