It’s that time of year that I love. Spending time with my family. Sleeping in (well, until 7 or when my kids get up). Baking and eating all the cookies. Seeing my parents. And of course, not quite knowing what day it is.
Despite not knowing what day it is, not being home for half the week and not being with my treadmill, weights, etc., oh – and there being snow and ice where I was in NY, I was still able to get in some workouts this week. Here’s how the week looked:
Here’s how the week went:
Sunday: 8.3 treadmill miles, plus chest and tricep workout – Another Sunday morning where the weather wasn’t great, so I opted for a longer treadmill run. The weather was rainy and cold, which melted all the snow we had though! This was my longest treadmill run in who knows how long, and I was surprised at how well it went. I kept myself occupied by watching Twilight – I’d never seen it and I found it easy to run to. I could’ve gone longer, but we had plans to go to mass, brunch with B’s family and then FW’s basketball game.

Monday: 5.26 outdoor run and 2ish mile walk, plus shoulder and leg workout, and back+bicep workout, and leg workout – I was home with the three kids today and was glad to get in a run before B went to work. Then, we walked to and from the library during the day, which felt good to get in some movement and the kids even seemed to enjoy being outside and going for a walk. They sang Christmas carols on the whole walk back 🙂 I also was able to get in a nearly full body workout during nap/quiet time – I knew I wouldn’t have time to get in all my strength workouts the rest of the week so I wanted to do most of my strength training when I had the time, and access to weights. This meant I was able to get in nearly my full week’s strength training in two days! I just didn’t get in one of my leg usual workouts.
Tuesday: 5.27 outdoor run and another family walk (1.19 miles)- The snow was completely gone and the weather was mild, so running outside felt great. We also got in a family walk in the afternoon, which we hadn’t done in years – it was nice to get outside, see some Christmas decor and the kids seemed happy for another walk again.
Wednesday: 3.39 Christmas run before our car trip– I wasn’t expecting to run because we had a lot going on Christmas morning – but after the kids opened their gifts, and I opened mine – a brand new Garmin Fenix! – B encouraged me to get in a short run before we got on the road. I got to break in my new watch and got in a few miles before we got on the road for the 8-hour trip to NY.
Broke in the new watch with a super fast (for me) run

Thursday: 4.22 outdoor/slippery miles in NY, and 1.77 mile walk– It was COLD in NY, and there was a decent amount of snow on the ground so the run wasn’t great. I decided to stick to some main roads and side streets instead of going to the usual park I run through when I’m home. I still found the roads to be somewhat icy so I got in a few walking miles, too. Then, I got in a 1.77 mile walk with my parents as we walked our dog in the afternoon. It was COLD out and I was happy to be home when we were done.
Friday: 5.13 outdoor miles in NY – I decided to do the same route I had done on Thursday, but somehow made a different turn and ended up going through a different neighborhood. Luckily the icy streets seemed to have melted and I was able to run the full time. It actually warmed up a little too by the afternoon, so we got in some sleigh riding with the kids to enjoy being outside!

Saturday: 4.21 outdoor snowy/icy miles in NY, pushups and 8 minute abs – I woke up, and got ready to run, and as I was about to go out the door, B went outside and slid down the driveway. It had sleeted/iced when I was sleeping and the roads were completely covered in ice. So, I did an 8 minute ab workout and we got ready for our day. At lunchtime, it was still kind of slick out, so I drove to the nearby park where I often run, and brought my brand-new Yaktracks and got out there. I figured if the path was icy, at least I could run on the snow. Sure enough, I ended up running on the snow. It was not easy! I got it done slowly and it felt like a good workout – I felt like I was running on sand!
Broke in my new Yaktracks – here’s what the path looked like for half the run

For the other half, it was hard to even see the path vs. where the grass usually is

Total: 35.78 miles running! Plus some weight training.
