I can’t remember another year that my treadmill has gotten this much love. I got my beloved Sole F80 in 2018 when I was pregnant with my daughter, and yes, I ran a lot more inside that year because I was being cautious with the pregnancy (didn’t want to slip in the winter if it was even close to being slippery). But this year? This year takes the cake. We had yet ANOTHER bout of wintry weather this past weekend – Sunday started with rain, then ice, then 8 inches of snow. And this week it pretty much snowed on and off all week! So yes, I’m thankful for my treadmill and that it continues to serve me well and helps me get in some endorphins when I get bummed about our winter.
Here’s how the week looked:
Sunday: 10 treadmill miles (broken into 2 runs), chest and tri workout, 1.6 mile walk – Does it still count as a long run if it’s broken up by two smaller runs? Because that’s what happened Sunday. I got up early to get in a long run, got 5.75 miles when GM woke up calling me. Because B wasn’t home, I immediately got off the treadmill and tried to get him back to sleep but he wasn’t having it. My parents were in town, so I waited until they got him, then handed him over to them and they watched him (and the other kids) while I got in the rest of the long run (4.75 miles), then added weights into another workout. Later in the day, my mom and I got in a walk to pick up some bread. It was snowy but not cold out so not a bad walk.
Monday: Shoulder and leg workout, core workout, 4.05 treadmill run – I got to sleep a little late because the kids didn’t have school (I still had work), so I got up a little later and got in my weights and treadmill run before heading into the office. It had finally stopped snowing and luckily I take all highways so the roads were not that bad.
Tuesday: 5 treadmill mile walk/run, back and bicep workout, core workout, 2.1 mile walk – I set my alarm a little early because I wanted to have time to run and walk. I got in a 4 mile run, then put the treadmill on an incline and walked the last mile. I also got in my back and bicep workout and a Caroline Girvan core workout with weights. Later in the day I got in a 2.1 mile walk on the treadmill while doing some work.
Wednesday: 4 mile treadmill walk/run, leg workout, core workout, 2.6 treadmill mile walk later in the day – Leg day! Legs followed by running is NOT easy. I do split squats, kettlebell swings, goblet squats and step ups and I’m tired. I think leg day may be my least favorite day, though I’m not sure why. After, I had time for a few planks, a 3 mile run, then I walked 1 mile at an incline. I also got in some walking while working later in the day – I had a video to watch and some content to review, so I was able to walk slowly while getting that done.
Thursday: 5 mile treadmill run, core workout, short hip workout, 1.8 mile treadmill walk later in the day while working – Another treadmill run, and then walk while working. The kids had an early dismissal so I didn’t get in too much extra activity.
Friday: 5.1 treadmill miles, 10 minute core workout then 1 mile walk while working – It snowed – again! and was in the teens when I woke up so I headed to the treadmill. I don’t know why I bother checking the weather anymore, I should just assume I’m going to be inside until this snow goes away. I started with a core workout video, then got on the treadmill to run. I was feeling sluggish at first, but decided to use the ad time during my streaming to do speed work. Every time an ad came on (there were three 1-minute ads), I did a 7.0 mph sprint, but kept the treadmill at 6.2 mph the rest of the time.
Not running related, but I had lunch with some former coworkers, and one of them makes her own grape jelly with a friend. My kids LOVE her jelly (they call it “Debbie jelly” after her, and she brought me a jar! As soon as the kids got home from school, that’s of course what they wanted for a snack.
That night we celebrated 2 of my nieces’ birthdays – they both turned 1 over the past 2 weeks 🙂
Saturday: 5.75 miles on the treadmill – I SLEPT LATE! This was the first day in 2 weeks that I slept past 5:30 a.m. and got in more than 7 hours of sleep and it was GLORIOUS. We didn’t have any kid activities until 10 a.m., so I was able to sleep and when GM woke up, I brought him into the basement with me and got in my run while he watched a show with some of the Sesame Street characters and ate some of his breakfast.

New treadmill location is perfect for hanging out with the little ones while they watch TV
Total: 38.9 miles all treadmill running and weight training.
- If you do a long run and have to split it in two – is it a long run?
- Parents of young kids – do you (or have you) just turned on the TV to entertain your kid(s) while you worked out? I do it, but feel guilty when I do … but sometimes it’s easier than running while they’re sleeping!
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

You are a hero with all that treadmill running! I don’t love my TM and while I’m glad to have it, I will do almost anything to avoid running on it. We’re supposed to warm up this week, which should be nice.
I don’t think the TV is so bad for kids compared to the small screens!
yes it counts. I’ve even had to dit one into 2 days. Lol. wow. All those treadmill miles. I admire you. I am a treadmill avoider.
I say it counts! I’ve split a long run into 2 segments before. The only time I would say it isn’t effective is if you’re trying to practice fueling for a long race. Two 10 mile runs is not the same as a continuous 20 miler, to your stomach. But it doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re trying to do- you’re just trying to get in your runs! You did a great job of it.
wow, even more snow! Great job with all the treadmill time! I think as long as you’re logging the miles, it’s fine to break up the long runs once in awhile.
Leg day followed by running must be tough! You’re doing a good job with keeping up all those workouts. I think a long run is a long run even if it’s split up, especially if it’s on the same day.
First of all, I want Debbie Jelly! And a bite of that cake! How fun!
When A was younger, he was a notoriously early riser. We put a TV in our bedroom solely because when he got up at 4:30AM, we could bring him in the room and let him watch a little Disney Jr or PBS While we caught a few more zs.
This is mom survival, and it’s just fine.
It looks like a good set up in the basement! That cake is so cute too!!
Very well done with the treadmill! A nice set up definitely helps. Looks like a lot of fun stuff mixed in there too!
