Mid-March

And just like that, we’re halfway through March! This week included a pretty wide variety of things going on – we got in some travel over the weekend which meant a short hotel gym run, it was beautiful weather later in the week which meant some outdoor runs (!), and the week started with an EARLY workout (aka 4 a.m. on a Sunday after Daylight Savings which felt like 3 a.m.).  We were all suffering from sleep deprivation after the time change, but I’m hoping we made it to the other end and are used to it finally.

That was the summary. Now here’s the day-by-day:

Sunday: 8 treadmill miles, chest and tri workout – Sometimes I admit that running makes you do crazy things. And this Sunday was one of those days. We had to leave the house by 7 a.m. for my son’s sporting events, which meant I would have to get him up by 6:30 — meaning that if I wanted to get in my long run, I would have to wake up at 4 a.m. – which was 3 a.m. thanks to the time change! But I did it, got up, got in my 8 miles on the treadmill and we made it to our 3 futsal games. My son’s team won 2 of the 3 games, and then we were off to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday.

Monday: 4.1 outdoor miles, 1 mile treadmill walk on incline, Shoulder and leg workout, DR core – I woke up to mid-40s and knew I had to get in an outdoor run. I got in my weigh workout, a short diastasis recti core workout, then got outside for 4.1 miles. I finished up with a 1 mile walk on the treadmill before starting my day.

Tuesday: 4.29 easy outdoor miles plus 1 mile treadmill walk, back and bicep workout, DR ab exercise and 1.9 mi walk at lunch – I did my back and bicep workout, did a few diastasis recti ab exercises and then got outside for a run! This was much slower than last Tuesday’s run, and I was tired (Thanks time change!). BUT it was mid-50s at 5 a.m., so I wore capris and a light shirt and vest and felt great! IT was nice not to be freezing, and not to have to dodge icy patches. I then walked on the treadmill for 1 mile at an incline before getting ready for a day in the office.   At the office, I got in a 1.9 mile walk outside with some coworkers which was great.

Wednesday: Speed workout! 6×400 meters for a total of 4.5 miles run, finished leg workout, DR core workout, 1.75 mile treadmill walk, 1.8 mile outdoor walk – I don’t love speed workouts, but I will say that intervals are easier on the treadmill! I got in six 400 meter “sprints” – my first was at 7.2 mph, next was 7.4, next was at 7.4-7.6, next was 7.6, then 7.7 and the last was 7.8 mph. I did mostly walking/slow jogging for .25 miles in between each one and cooled down too. I also got in a leg workout, walk on the treadmill while working, and outdoor walk at lunch! Then that night, I was able to walk to my book club since it was less than a half a mile away (it rotates at different locations and this is the one place I can walk to).

Thursday: 3.1 mile treadmill run, DR core workout, 1 mile walk on the treadmill, 1 mile outdoor walk GM woke up in the middle of the night, I went to bed late because of book club, and I slept through several alarms. I figured I would see if my legs would get me through a few treadmill miles, and they did. After my easy run, I did my DR core exercises and then walked a mile before getting ready.  I had a busy day but was able to fit in a short walk in 50 degrees at lunch!

Not running-related, but that night I found myself only around at dinner time with GM – LM was out with B and FW had a basketball party – so GM and I went on a “date”! We went to a store and bought him a new stuffy, then got dinner and then a candy store for dessert. It was lovely and he was all about it, even dressing up 🙂

Friday: 10.03 outdoor miles, plus some walking – I had taken the day off so I planned to get in a run after the kids went to school. This meant I was able to run as the sun was rising, and I could actually venture out to some trails that I like running on when it’s light out. It was the first time I had ventured out of my neighborhood since winter and I loved it! I was planning on 6-8 miles, but felt so good I just kept going. When I realized I had a chance to hit 10 I was ecstatic. I finished tired, but feeling good!

Later I was able to rest my legs in a long car ride while we got on the road to Cincinnati. I got in some walking around downtown before and after dinner with the family and that was that.  It was 80 degrees in Cincy when we got there and we celebrated Pi Day with a pizza (plus playground and ice cream).

Saturday: 2.5 mile treadmill run, some walking around Cincinnati I wasn’t anticipating getting in much activity, but was pleasantly pleased with being able to fit in a 2.5 mile treadmill run while the kids got ready for the hotel pool. We all swam for a little bit before getting ready for the day. It had been raining when I woke up but cleared up enough for us to catch their city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. As we were walking back from the parade, we hit up Skyline Chili (a Cincinnati staple) for lunch and only then did it start raining again. Unfortunately, it rained most of the afternoon after that, so we stayed inside before having dinner at a friend’s house for his birthday.

St. Patrick’s Day parade-ing

Skyline Chili! My son got the 3-way – that’s spaghetti, chili and cheese

Total:  36.52 miles running and weight training.

  • Any spring break plans or travel coming up?
  • St. Patrick’s Day plans?

  3. You are so dedicated to running to get that tread run in of the first day of DST. I did not hop out of bed early last Sunday!

What a sweet “date” with your son – he looks so cute.

Nice that the rain held off for the parade at least.

  4. Nice job on that early-early run last weekend! And, a nice 10-miler as well… those feel so good when they happen (unexpectedly) on their own.

  5. Your son did it right! Cincinnati chili is supposed to have pasta and cheese. I have a really good recipe for Cincinnati chili- I should make it again soon.

Nice week of running, and great job on the 10 miler! It’s nice when a long run hits double digits. And- your son is so, so cute, all dressed up for your “date!”
