Almost 50 (miles)

We had a fun summery activity-filled week with celebrations for my youngest’s birthday, a Guardians game, and a house party … and I ran almost 50 miles in one week (not one sitting, I’m not an ultramarathoner)! So once again, it was a good week of running, weight lifting, swimming, walking. I don’t think I’ll have such a high mileage week again anytime soon, but it was good while it lasted! Here’s how it went ….

Sunday: 10.07 miles outdoors, plus back and bicep workout.

We had a fun Sunday planned to start some celebrations for GM’s birthday, so I set my alarm to get in a long run before our long day. I wasn’t sure I’d have time for 10 – but I did it! After that, we headed to SkyZone for an hour of trampoline jumping with the kids. I LOVE SkyZone and on Sunday mornings they have it open to just little kids, hich is perfect for going with our little family. I also love jumping – it’s a workout but it kept my legs loose after my long run and it’s so much fun! We kept the celebration going with a stop at a bookstore to get a new book, ice cream, and then singing happy birthday with his cousins and my in-laws that night.

Monday: 5.05 miles, core workout and started leg day, 1,200 yard swim

I was pooped Sunday night and actually fell asleep while the kids were reading – but then I couldn’t fall back to sleep when they went into bed! Ugh. So I was tired Monday morning but was able to get in a little leg workout and core workout before a run. I was surprised at how okay I felt after all the activity Sunday – slow, but the chilly temps made the run not as hard as it could’ve been. That night I got in 1,200 yards of swimming (I finally figured out how to sync my watch to the 25 yard length pool!).

Tuesday: 9.02 outdoor miles, finished, leg workout

I had the day off to celebrate GM’s birthday, but got up early to get in a run to start our day. I would’ve liked to get in 10 but I didn’t get up as early as I would’ve liked. We celebrated his birthday with a trip to the driving range, the zoo, a picnic, and more! I ended the day with nearly 26,000 steps!

Wednesday: 7 mile run outside, 2.71 mile walk at lunch, short core workout/push ups

I didn’t get great sleep Tuesday, and Wednesday’s run was a slog – I was glad to get it in! My legs weren’t tired/sore, but my body was tired. It was nice to get outside for a walk at lunch, but again, I was tired afterwards. Later that day I started really feeling under the weather – just a cold but man, I was stuffy AND tired! We went to the Guardians game at night and I was exhausted by the time we got home close to 10 p.m.

Thursday: 4.4 mile outdoor run, 1.14 mi lunch walk, 725 yard pool swim

I promised myself that I would sleep in a little and only run a little to see how I felt, so that’s what I did. It’s funny how “short” 4 miles feels when I’ve been running longer, but also how long it feels when you’re hot/tired! I was still tired but felt better than I had on Wednesday. I only had tie for a short walk at lunch but was glad to get outside for a short walk in between meetings. I had 15 minutes at swimming lessons so I decided to get in a short lap swim as well at night.

Friday: 4 outdoor mile run, start of chest + tricep workout, 1 mile walk at lunch

I again wasn’t feeling so great when I woke up, so I decided to just get in a short run. I was also slower getting out the door so I didn’t have that much time. I felt alright during the run – still tired, though. I also got in some of my chest/tricep workout and a short mid-day walk. It was already “feels like 80s” at 6:30 a.m., so it was a hot 4 miles!

Saturday: 10.13 miles (split between two back-to-back runs – one on the treadmill, one outside – that still counts as a long run, right?)

We had a busy day Saturday, mostly getting ready to host a house party to celebrate our home – it turned 100 years this year! So, I knew I wanted to get in a long run to help me cope with the day. I set my alarm but when I woke up, it was thunderstorming, so I decided to wait it out a little bit. It looked like rain for at least another hour, so I finally decided to get out of bed and hop on the treadmill. I got in 3.1 miles on the treadmill, when it looked like the rain may stop soon, so I then finished up with 7.03 outside. It was 97% HUMIDITY when I got outside and although it wasn’t SO hot (“Feels like” in the 80s) I sweated SO much! I got home after my 10 miles and my shorts and everything was soooo soaked. My cold was lingering, but I was glad to get outside and run.

I have plans to take Sunday off from running – I noticed a twinge in my hip the past few days and I’m sure the long run Saturday won’t help, so my plan Sunday (today) is to hopefully just get in a little weight lifting and maybe walking depending on how my hip is. I’m thinking it’s some sort of hip tendonitis because it goes away while running and then comes back after sitting or standing for a while.

Total:  49.35 miles running plus swimming, weights and walking * because of my bookend 10 milers (I usually do them on Sundays but moved my Sunday to Saturday this week), this is my most weekly mileage since I can remember counting! Most likely since marathon training!

  • Anyone sick near you? A few of us here have slight summer colds 😦
  • Have you ever had tendonitis in your hip?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. It sounds like a good idea to let your hip rest today after a high mileage week. I hope it ends up being nothing and feels better quickly. Also, here’s hoping your cold is on its way out.

Happy birthday to GM! Our oldest grandson is turning 4 this week!

  2. What a busy week! I’m impressed that you were able to get in all those miles, even feeling under the weather! Summer colds are tough. I hope you are feeling better!

  3. I can’t believe you ran 50 miles this week, while celebrating a kids birthday and also nursing a cold. And you didn’t have great nights of sleep… I’m starting to suspect that you’re actually a robot, lol. Anyway, glad you’re taking it easy today. I know those hip twinges- it’s a good sign that it goes away while you’re running, but it’s good to be proactive and give it a little rest.

  4. Oh, wow, happy birthday to your house! What a fun thing to celebrate.

Our humidity has been 96-98% almost every morning — that’s why I’m hopping on my treadmill! It’s gross even just walking Scooby.

Happy birthday to your son too – sounds like a big day of celebrating!

  5. my kids used to love those jumping places too! Always fun. Happy birthday to your son. Hope your hip feels better this week

  6. Lots of action this week! Nice mileage 😉 After my run and ride yesterday, I camped out on the couch (over a towel) for a few minutes…and the towel was soaked when I got up, LOL, as were my clothes. It was so humid outside, nothing evaporated while I was running or biking.

  7. WOW! Big mileage! Well done! and still fit in cross training/strength too- look at you! 🙂 We almost made it with ours (1929) in Minneapolis, and I had the same idea, so I’m glad to see you did it!!

  8. What a bummer to get a cold in the middle of the summer! I haven’t had anything for a long time thank goodness… I think the last time I had something cold-like in the summer was when we had Covid in 2022.

Happy birthday to GM and happy anniversary to your house! How cool to celebrate the house!

  9. A birthday party for your house?! That’s so cool!

And of course, happy birthday to your little guy!

I’ve never had tendinitis (knock on wood), but it sounds terrible. I hope you are able to get relief soon.

Mr PugRunner had what we think was a bout of food poisoning, and the storms are back, which means my storm-induced allergies are back. At 6PM, my eyes start itching, and I can’t stop sneezing. It’s exhausting and I feel terrible. But I wake up in the morning feeling just fine.

    Feel better!

  11. I have to say that your weekly miles is like my monthly total.

Hope you are feeling better… summer colds are no fun.

And take care of that hip.

I’ve been babying my ankle but I’m over it. It feels better if I run so that’s that.
