Ack! August is here! I’m NOT READY for summer to be over, school to begin, and all the madness that that entails. Sigh. So I’m going to just try to sit back and enjoy these next few weeks in the meantime.
July was a good month! I had almost 200 miles of running, several swims, walks, stroller running, some pickleball and several days of weight lifting.

This week was a little slower. After racking up nearly 50 miles last week, I decided to take it somewhat easier this week. This meant some shorter mileage, and no long runs thanks to some travel. Here’s how the week looked:
Sunday: 5 miles outdoors, leg and shoulder workout, back and bicep workout, short core workout
I was up past midnight for our house party Saturday and had also done a 10 mile run Saturday so I planned on a shorter run Sunday. GM woke up early (as usual), so I put him in the stroller with breakfast and then we did a few miles running and a little bit walking around the nature center. I also got in some weights and a short core workout.
Monday: 5.05 miles, short core workout, finished back and bicep workout, started leg day
I was pooped Monday and wanted to take it pretty easy to play it safe with my hip. So I got in a run and that was really it!
Tuesday: 3.37 outdoor miles, finished leg workout, core workout, 1.25 treadmill walk, 1,325 yard swim
I just wasn’t feeling it today. I was tired and after my leg workout, I could barely run. I decided to take it easy (see the theme) and get in a shorter run, and then a walk. That night, we had swimming lessons and I got in a 1,325 yard swim. I know it wasn’t actually 1,325 yards despite what my watch said because I did an even number of lengths – but oh well! It had to be close to that.
Wednesday: 5.05 mile run outside, 3.32 miles during the day (split between treadmill while working and outside at lunch), short core workout, 1275 yard swim
I was slogging again Wednesday morning – this time my body felt really tight. I wasn’t sure this run was going to happen, but I was glad it did. I felt looser after my run and got in some good walking during the day, plus another swim at night! This is the second-to-last swim lesson I’ll be able to attend, so I wanted to make it count.

Thursday: 5.03 mile outdoor run, chest and tricep workout, weighted core workout
I actually set my alarm a little early to maybe get in a long run before we hit the road for travel, but the weather and my body had other plans. My hip(?) was a little sore and it was storming out! So I snoozed for another hour, then when I finally got out of bed I did some weight training. The rain was slowing down, so I got in slightly wet but not soaking (and no lightning!) run before starting my day.
Friday: 6.23 mile outdoor run
I was TIRED after getting into Albany late and in bed after midnight (and of course GM was up at 6 something), but it was COOL, so the run felt good! We had plans to spend the day in Saratoga, so we packed up a picnic lunch, went to the race track to enjoy some horse races, and then did dinner and walking around downtown Saratoga Springs. I ended the day with 21,000+ steps!

Saturday: 6.23 outdoor miles
We had a beautiful day in Albany, and once again, I was able to get out for a nice run in the morning. We then spent most of the day at a local kid amusement park, which everyone loved. It was perfect for all my kids – even my mom and brother went on a few rides too!

Total: 35.97 miles running plus swimming, weights and walking
No long run for me this week! Attempted to stay active while listening to my body, which was sore. And being out of town helped keep me to less mileage, too!
- Any exciting things coming up for your August?
- How long is a typical road trip for you?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
