We went back to school this week! While it’s somewhat nice to be back in the routine and back to our early mornings (a.k.a. more time for me), it isn’t great waking up early and not being able to work out during the daylight hours. Sigh. Ok, enough complaining (I do it enough!), instead, I’ll just make the most of the next few months and count down to next summer (it’s not too early, is it?).
I tried getting in some runs this week, but my hip still hurt on and off, so it wasn’t a real success unfortunately. I know I should take more time off, but not running is so hard!
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 5.06 mile outdoor walk, started leg workout
Once again, instead of getting in a long Sunday run, I got in a long(ish) walk and some weights. It was nice out and I actually saw some people I knew running, which made me long to be doing the same. But I was still glad to be enjoying the nice weather, sunshine and alone time before the day began.
Speaking of the day, it was pretty lowkey – it included a soccer game for FW (a win!) and also LM and I got to a showing of the singalong version of K Pop Demon Hunters. The kids have been watching that movie on repeat for a little while, and while I’d seen bits and piece (and of course listened to the music), it was my first time watching the whole movie and I had so much fun singing along the entire time.

Monday: 4.39 mile walk/run, core workout, finished leg day, 1.8 mile walking on the treadmill
I finished my leg workouts, did some hip exercises, and did some finishing my leg day workouts, and then got in a quick walk before heading into the office. My hip felt okay and I did do a little bit of jogging among the walking, but only for a few minutes just to see how it felt or if I wanted to pass someone who was walking. Overall, the hip felt good but I didn’t want to push it. That night, I also got in a short treadmill walk while B picked up FW from practice and took the little kids to play on the playground for the last few minutes.

Tuesday: 5.23 mile run, core workout
It was the last morning I had to run during the week during daylight, so I decided to just test it out. I tried running. My hip felt ok for the first mile or so, but then it started hurting and not in the usual place. It typically is sore after I sit for a while on the side, but during my run I felt it right in the front part. I decided to walk/run (mostly run) for the rest of the time and was proud to have gotten to 5 miles. It felt so good to be back moving again! At least mentally it felt good.

Wednesday: 3.45 mile/walk run outside, core workout, push ups, 3.98 miles outdoor walk, 2 mile indoor walk
While my hip had felt a little sore while running on Tuesday, by Tuesday night it felt fine so I decided to give it another go on Wednesday morning. I barely made it a mile before I felt the hip pain again. Ugh! I ran/walked the rest. Guess I’m not better yet? Then I got in a walk with GM before the day started. It was the FIRST day of school here for my kids so we got outside early and GM and I were able to take a walk and be home by 8! I got in plenty of walking during the day, including at lunch, and my hip felt fine for that. It’s really just running that it starts to hurt.

Thursday: 2.25 mile weighted vest walk on the treadmill, 2.28 mile walk outside, core workout, push ups, started chest workout.
With my hip still hurting on Tuesday, I opted to play it safe and get in a walk. It was pitch black out so my typical trail walk wasn’t going to happen, and I decided to just stay inside and walk with the weighted vest in the treadmill. I started with an incline of 3, but that seemed to bother my hip, so I mostly just kept it at 1. Before heading into the office, I had time to get in a stroller walk with GM – he requested one and it is always nice to get in some fresh air before starting my day! We got in 2.28 miles before I headed in.
Friday: Chest and tricep workout, shoulder and leg workout, 1.66 mile run, 1.15 mile indoor walk on an incline, 1.9 mile stroller walk with GM
I reallllly wanted to get outside and see how my hip felt, so I told myself I’d run 1ish miles. I ran 1.66 and walked a bit to ensure it felt okay, and then I walked on the treadmill. I also took another walk with GM after the big kids got on the school bus – this time to pick up coffee for B, some after-school treats, and challah bread.
Saturday: 5.53 mile run/walk outside, starting back and bicep workout, some abs + push ups
Got in a little run and walk outside before our day started. I was so excited to run during the daylight, that setting my alarm to get outside before 7 was no big deal (especially when it’s set for 4:30 during week days). I was also excited to try running! The good news was my hip didn’t really start to hurt until 2 miles in vs. 1 mile. So I ran about 3 miles and then walked/ran the rest. Then it was time for another flag football game and piano lessons.

Total: 18ish miles of walk/running, some more of just walks and weights
- Have you seen or listened to K Pop Demon Hunters?
- Have temps cooled down near you yet?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

I hope your hip continues to improve. I know how frustrating it is when those aches and niggles persist. Happy New School Year,
So sorry to hear about your hip issues. I must have missed what happened to it but I’ve been almost offline for a month! I hope it gets better soon. Still it’s good to see you get in some walks and other good things. That morning photo is stunning. The early morning light is the best! I’ll try to stay in my Italian routine and do early morning walks this autumn for some good photos.
sorry to read that your hip is still hurting you a lot. Have you had it looked at yet? Sometimes we just have to take more time off than we would like to. Hope your back to school routine goes smoothly and kids Have a great school year

With no kids in the house and no TikTok account, I am out of the K Pop Demon Hunters loop!
Sorry your hip is still nagging. 😦
I don’t mind the end of summer weather but I am missing the end of summer morning light.
I am also missing the summer daylight! I’m not enjoying the shorter days
Hips are complicated! Do you have a sports doctor you could go to? I always want to fix everything myself, but if I have to, I got oa sports chiropractor. Sometimes you need a little help!
It does sound like it got better towards the end of the week- I hope it continues to improve.
Yay for back to school! Boo for those dark running mornings.
it was doing better! And then I ran 5 miles on it and now it’s sore again.
Sounds like your hip is still giving you trouble… hope resting it will help.
Here School doesn’t start as you know until after Labor day… your kids are so darn cute!
Such a busy week! But all good busyness, right?
I’m so sorry to hear that your hip is still bothering you. It’s no fun not running!
Here’s hoping your hip continues to heal and that you can resist the temptation to run too much.
Your kids look so cute in their uniforms. My sons went to Catholic school as well and it was so nice having them in uniforms.
I have heard so much about Kpop Demon Hunters… I feel like l am missing out LOL!
Your kiddos are so cute in their uniforms!
Here’s to healing hips and easy mornings. I do really love the routine, but it’s easier when your kid gets up and out on his own (and school doesn’t start until 9:30 anyway).
It was very pleasant out this morning and I am so grateful for it. I am beyond ready for fall.

Sorry to hear the hip is still being annoying. How frustrating.
Happy New School Year! Great pics.
