Outside is the best side

It was another fun fall week, with mostly good weather. We had rain for the first time in weeks a little early in the week, but the rest of the week was warm and sunny again! While I didn’t get in any running outside during daylight, I did get in some good walking outside when I could and enjoyed taking in the nice weather.

Here’s what the week looked like (spoiler alert, once more it was walking, cycling and weight lifting, notsomuch running):

Sunday: 6.56 miles walking outside + 2 more miles walking

Our soccer game got moved to during the week, so we were able to have an easy, late morning. This meant I turned off my alarm for the first time in 2 weeks and was able to go for a long walk in the daylight! We also went to a newish playground near us that is only 1 mile away – I walked there and back while the kids biked. There was a music festival going on, and there was live music and some other attractions at the park, but it wasn’t too crowded yet, which was perfect.

That night was our block party, which was lots of fun! It’s always a good time, with lots of games. There are a few games where the kids (or grown ups) have to try to eat a donut off a string without using their hands, or find an M&M in a bowl of whipped cream (without without using your hands), an egg toss and more.

Monday: 17 minute indoor bike ride, 2.18 mile walk on the treadmill on an incline, 2.18 mile stroller walk with GM, short core workout, leg workout (some kettlebell squats and step ups) 2.7 mi walk outside

Mondays are HARD! I was glad to have gotten in most of my leg day workout on Saturday so I only had some of the exercises left to do. I did a short core workout, leg day, and then got in some cycling and walking. I was happy to get outside for some more walking with GM and then solo before the rain came!

Tuesday: 20 minutes indoor cycling, 2.25 mile walk on the treadmill with an incline, 2.1 mile stroller walk with GM, push ups and core/glute workout

Another indoor cycling, core workout and treadmill walk day. It looked like rain, but I was luckily able to get in a 2ish mile walk with GM before heading into the office.

Wednesday: 2 miles walking on the treadmill, core and “booty” workout, 25 minutes cycling, 2.18 mile stroller walk and then 2 mile treadmill walk while working

It was nice to get in 6 miles on foot before noon! I love being able to walk on the treadmill while working, and even though it’s slow, it’s nice to move and easy to do if I’m proofreading content, which I was doing this morning. I also got in some cycling and a walk with GM in the morning – about 1.4 miles with the stroller and then .7 miles with him walking with me. It was drizzling on and off so we ended up staying close to home, and he enjoyed some puddle jumping during the walk.

Thursday: Chest and tricep workout, starting shoulder workout, short core workout, 2.6 mile on the treadmill on an incline, 2.79 miles outside walking with GM in the stroller and 2 miles walking at lunch

Another day without “really” running. I say really, because GM and I were racing the bus so we ran about .4 miles to beat the bus while he was in the stroller – and we JUST made it! But other than that, not running on the treadmill, no running outside for me – I really am trying to take it easy these days. I did a chest and tricep workout along with some shoulders to start the day. I had gotten the flu shot on Tuesday, and my arm was still a little sore, but the workout ended up being okay. I decided to get more miles on the treadmill and while playing Duolingo, I got in a 2.6 mile walk instead of hitting up the indoor bike. Our bagel shop was open again, so GM and I walked there to get fresh bagels. OMG there’s nothing like a fresh, chewy, doughy, warm bagel! I also walked to and from a lunch with a coworker. The restaurant we went to is about a mile from my house, so it was perfect. I had their harvest grain bowl, which was delicious!

Friday:  Finished shoulder and leg workout, back/bicep workout, plank and push ups, 3.1 mile treadmill walk with an incline, 2 walk on an incline while working, 2 mile lunch walk

I sadly didn’t get in a walk with GM – but for good reason. It was Muffins with Mom at the big kids’ school, and instead, I got in some time with them! We got to school by 7:30 and had some muffins before they headed on their way to class at 7:55. Before the event, however, I did finish the shoulder and leg weight workout, back/bicep workout and a 3.1 mile treadmill walk. I also did some treadmill walking while working, and 2 miles at lunch.

Saturday: 4.08 miles RUN/walk outdoors

It was another busy Saturday, with an early flag football game (we had to leave the house by 7:30!), piano, soccer and a mini soccer party. I woke up early to get in a workout, but B had been working on the basement and the treadmill was out of commission, so I decided to head outside. I tried running 1 mile and I felt okay! So I ran/walked the rest of it to get to 4. Then it was time to go to flag football – where FW scored his second touch down of the season! I was so excited and proud of him. The rest of the day was crazy with the aforementioned kid activities, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Some questions for you:

  • Are you having amazing weather, too?
  • Were you in a drought recently? I found out we were before it rained earlier in the week.

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Even though you’re not running right now, you sure got in a lot of movement! This warm weather makes it easy to be outside. How fun that you got to go your kids’ school–I always loved that! Have a great week.

  2. you are definitely keeping busy with lots of other activity and exercise. It is still pretty warm by me as well-I am anxiously awaiting fall temps. I miss those events at school!

  5. We had a pretty dry summer, but have had some rain recently — including yesterday!

How nice to have a new playground close to home!

I remember the “donut” game. I haven’t heard of the hidden M&M game but it sounds messy!

  6. Hahahaha… we have had SO MUCH RAIN lately. There have been flood warnings on numerous days. But it’s also hot and sticky! Ah, September in Florida…

Sounds like you had a great week. And hopefully that hip is better! I was thinking while I was reading this- injuries are so much better when you can at least WALK. There’s just something about being outside and moving on your own two feet that feels so good, even if it’s not running. As opposed to, say… .when I sprained my ankle or when you broke your toe. Anyway, hopefully this next week will see even more running for you!

  7. We had a drought earlier in the summer (June), then a lot of rain in late July/early August. Now we’re back in a really bad drought. Weird! Great job with all the walking and workouts!

  8. Yep, in my part of Ohio it has also been so dry. Our grass looks horrible! But I’m fine with not watering it more because we got a huge electric bill from the air conditioner running so much over the summer! That’s so fun that you have block parties. Our HOA said we were going to have one this year but nothing was ever organized!

  9. How cute is that Muffins with Mom picture!

It’s very dry here with no rain expected in the next 10 days. Thursday’s rain kept me inside on my spin bike, but hardly amounted to anything and stopped by mid-morning.

  10. No, we are NOT having nice weather. it’s back to hot and humid, and now we are getting storms. I’m not happy.

You got in so much and in such variety! Those are my favorite weeks!

That muffins with mom picture is so cute! Our schools are too big and security is so strict that we had to give up doing them! Everyone who volunteers or comes into the school has to have a background check in advance and then be checked in on the database when they arrive. The front office couldn’t keep up!
