You know what’s hard? Not running every day! I’m getting back into running and in my past life (aka a few months ago) this would’ve meant running daily. Over the summer I was hitting 40+ mile weeks, running 5-10 miles in the morning before work or on the weekend. But, we all know what happened – I got injured!
So, I’m trying to get back out there, but also taking it somewhat easy. This means fitting in running, walking and weight lifting – but nothing too crazy. For now, that looks like run/walks and NOT every day. Oh yeah, and having fun! This week that meant a few runs, some walking, some weight lifting, and also the Bulldog Bolt 5K/fun run at my kids’ school! So, here’s what that meant for this week:
Sunday: 6.28 run/walk
I was dying to get in a long Sunday run and hit up some of my old favorite spots during the daylight, so that’s what I did! I didn’t run the whole thing — I walked for quite a bit of it but it was still great to get outside!

Not running related, but in the afternoon, my daughter got a mani-pedi with one of her best friends – they were so cute!

Monday: Shoulder, back and bicep workout, 1.2 mile treadmill walk, 15 minutes indoor cycling, 2.5 mile outdoor stroller walk with GM, 1 mile lunch walk
After Sunday’s “long run,” I told myself to take it easy and not run. Easier said than done, but I did it! I did a long weight workout and then walking and cycling for the rest of the day.
Tuesday: Leg + core weight and bodyweight workout, 4 mile run/walk, 1.5 mile stroller walk with GM
It was pouring when I woke up, and I wanted to play it safe again, so I opted for a 15-minute “core and booty” workout, thinking that would be good for my hips (and core), and then finished with a 5K walk on the treadmill. It’s frustrating that in the time that I could have run 5 miles, I only did 3.1, but I’m getting used to the less mileage these days. I didn’t get any other walking in, which is rare, but because I was in the office and had to go back and forth to I&T so many times (my computer was having issues and they’re in a separate building – I went back and forth 4x to test thing out, bring my dock, etc.), I still made my 11,000 step goal LOL!
Wednesday: 6+ miles — made of 4.26 mi slow jog, 1 mile treadmill walk, 1.14 mile walk
I could NOT get out of bed, but when I did it was 30 minutes later than usual, yikes! Luckily, I had no weights on the plan, so I was able to focus on getting out the door and getting in a slow job with a little walking in there. I finished with a treadmill walk to cool down, and then also got in a short outdoor walk after the big kids went to school/before heading into the office.
That night, I went out! One of my book clubs had a meeting and we met over wine to discuss our book, Exit West.

Thursday: 5.55 mile walk/run, 2.88 mile stroller walk, started chest and tricep workout, 1.24 mile lunch walk
I woke up a little tired after being out late Wednesday for one of my book clubs, but it was chilly out and getting outside woke me up! I got in 4.5 miles of running/walking and then 1 mile of a walk on the treadmill to cool down. I also got in a long stroller walk with GM and started my chest and tricep workout. At lunch, I you I’m a nice outdoor walk, too.

Friday: Finished chest and tricep workout, leg and shoulder workout, started back and bicep workout, short core workout, 1.5 mile treadmill walk on an incline, 1 mile treadmill walk while working, 2.7 miles walking at lunch
Knowing I’d be running a 5K with my son on Saturday, I told myself not to run on Friday. I really am trying to not over-exert myself and stay injury free as I heal from my hip issues! So instead, I focused on a nearly full body weight workout plus some walking during the day. Fingers crossed this not-running-every-day-habit is a good idea!
Saturday: Bulldog Bolt 5K
We had our usual somewhat busy Saturday, but instead of starting our day with a flag football or soccer game, we had the Bulldog Bolt 5K race with the family! It’s always a fun event- a 5k and 1 miler with tons of little kids, and then an after-party with face paint, music, ruffles, food trucks, pizza and more.
I’m proud of how FW did- he cut off 1 min from his time from last year! We ran it together and he finished at 27:37 or so. He stopped a few times but not for too long and I’m sure he could’ve kept going!

The rest of the day included piano lessons and then a trick or treat event, plus some cousin time.

Total: 24ish miles running (with walking)! Plus lots of walking and weights.
Some questions for you:
- Have you participated in any Halloween events near you?
- Any 5ks in your future?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
