As much as I love this time of year for the holiday season … it’s my least favorite season for running. I hate the icy roads, the slippery sidewalks, etc. Bah hum bug? But it’s okay – because it’s still almost the holidays and I can cheer about that! So despite it being cold and slippery, I still got in my workouts this week, by opting inside.
So this week included a lot of treadmill time, some weights, and lots of baking! Oh, and I did force myself outside for a walk two days but it was slippery! So here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 7.2 mile treadmill run/walk, plus back and bicep workout and abs
I was really hoping to get outside for a long run, but I woke up to snow on the ground, rain/ice coming down and 33 degrees. I didn’t trust myself not to slip and slide on the wet and icy sidewalk, so I opted to go on the treadmill. I’m going to tell you — I was NOT feeling it. So, I made the most of it and I broke up my run, plus did a weight workout. I ended up doing 6.2 miles slow running and 1 mile run/walk for 7.2 total.
Monday: 4 mile treadmill run, 1.5 mile treadmill walk, 2.12 mile walk outside, back/bicep workout, push ups, and started leg workout
Getting up on a Monday is easier knowing there are only 2 more full weeks of school until winter break (meaning I can wake up later in just two weeks!). I got on the treadmill for 2 miles, did my weight workout, then did 2 more miles on the mill. I also got in a few miles while working, and during lunch.

Tuesday: 4.5 mile treadmill run, leg workout, abs and push ups, 1.8 mile (indoor) walk at lunch
I got out of bed on time for once … but then once I got into the basement to work out, I was so cold I just sat there with a blanket on for too long! When I finally did warm up, I got in my leg workout, some abs and push ups, and then a run on the treadmill while finishing up the movie, the Island, with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanssen. It was my perfect treadmill movie – lots of running on screen, action and kept me motivated to run without stopping the entire time.
Wednesday: 5.75 mile treadmill run (including walking warm up and cool down), short core workout, .8 mile indoor walk while working, 1.7 mi outdoor walk and some shoveling
I was tired Tuesday night and got to sleep by 9:30-10! It was glorious! I got up by 4:30, and was up and working out by 5. I had done my weights for the week already so I focused on a short core workout, then some walking, then running, then walking to cool down. I made it about 4.5 miles running total and then the rest was walking. Since I had finished the Island, I watched the latest season of Stranger Things. Not quite the Island, but the show held my attention for running! Later in the day, the snow had started to melt and it warmed up, so I went for a walk. It then started to rain and ice over, so while it was raining, I went outside to crack/shovel aside the ice. This was a workout in itself – my arms were tired!
Thursday: 4.3 miles running on the treadmill, chest and tricep work out, 1.75 mile treadmill walk
I shouldn’t have shoveled – I woke up to more snow and ice, and it was snowing out still! So another indoor workout for me. But hey, we baked cookies! Check out the updated Taylor Swift Chai Cookies recipe I shared. They’re yummy!

Friday: 4 mile treadmill walk/run plus 1.75 mile treadmill walk, shoulder and leg workout, started back/bicep workout
Wowee I was TIRED after staying out later than usual Thursday night with the Moms Night Out group for my kids’ school. They do an annual ornament exchange at someone’s home every year and it is one of my favorite events! But I was pooped Friday morning. I got up, did some weights and did a short run, and then it was time to start the day.

Saturday: 5 miles treadmill run, short back and bicep workout
It was another Saturday of skating, soccer and basketball- and then we had dinner plans out with another family! I was glad to get up earlyish and run on the treadmill. I finished 5 miles and then and time for a short weight workout before getting ready.

Total: 33.55 miles running, plus some walking and weights
Some questions for you:
- Any snow near you? It snowed here on Thanksgiving when we were out of town and has snowed on and off every other day or so since! It makes running or even walking outside hard!
- Do you get some time off for the holidays?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
