Yes, More Snow and Snow Days.

Yes, More Snow and Snow Days.

Like many parts of the US, we were impacted by the cold and snow this week. And as much as i like to get outside even in the cold, it was just too much for me this week. I stayed inside, watching the cold and snow from indoors, getting in treadmill walks and runs instead of outside time. With the snow and cold, we also had several snow days (2!) so the kids were home and our schedules were once again a little out of whack.

Here’s how this week looked:

Sunday: 9.5 treadmill miles running, 1 mile treadmill walking

I woke up to weather in the teens and snow coming down, with more anticipated throughout the day, so I didn’t even expect to run outside. Everything we had planned for Sunday – kid activities, a play date, a school open house, a volunteer event and a music school open house – were cancelled due to the snow! We literally had no plans until dinner with B’s family, and I took advantage of sleeping in and running as long as I wanted – it was glorious! I finished watching Heated Rivalry while I finished my long treadmill run, and I simply love the show and now want to watch it again!

Monday: 4 treadmill miles, leg workout, 2.3 miles walking on the treadmill

NO SCHOOL – yes, another snow day. Like a lot of the country, we had a big snowstorm come in Sunday afternoon and last some of the evening, so school was called off at dinnertime Sunday. We probably got maybe 8 inches total, which wasn’t a lot, but on top of the existing 12+ inches we had on the ground, we have a lot now! Daycare AND school were closed, which NEVER happens … or at least rarely does – so we were all home in the snow.

Tuesday: 5 treadmill miles, 1.5 miles treadmill, chest and tricep workout

NO SCHOOL again! This was due to a cold day – the big kids had no school because it was too cold out! Luckily, daycare was back open, because having 3 kids home is harder than 2 kids! I got in a treadmill run, some weights, and then started the day. And we had even a little more snow, if you can tell.

Wednesday: 3.1 mile treadmill run, 3 mile treadmill walk, back and bicep workout

After another extended weekend due to snow day and cold day), the kids were back! It was freezing out so I stayed inside all day, but got in a short run and treadmill walk, along with weights before work.

Thursday: 4.26 mile treadmill run, 2.75 mile treadmill walk, core workout

I was dragging this morning – after only 2 days of early wakeups again, I was tired! I did a core workout video, then hopped on the treadmill for some slow miles. I would’ve gone longer, but before I knew it, it was time for me to get the kids up and ready for another freezing school day.

Friday: 5.7 miles on the treadmill and 1.3 mile treadmill walk

TGIF! It felt like a LONG week – and I was glad to get in a run and walk before starting a busy day. I had a few meetings in the morning, but in the afternoon it was nice to work with a blanket on my lap – it was another COLD one!

Saturday: 4.5 mile run on the treadmill plus back and bicep workout

I set my alarm to run and get in a short lift, but GM woke up early again, ugh! I was still able to get in 4.5 miles after I got him settled … and then it was time for soccer, basketball and basketball!

Total:  36.56 miles running, plus some walking and weights

AND since today is February 1, here’s the monthly total: 150.37 miles!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you make it outside this week? I sadly have only run outside ONCE this month!
  • Any snow or cold days this week near you?

Amazing miles, especially considering that most of them were indoors! I struggle to get 6 miles on the TM, and have started doing speedwork, which helps. But one day per week is enough for me!

I can’t believe how much snow you have! We’ve had snow almost every day, but it’s been the light, fluffy variety and that doesn’t accummulate as much. We probably have 5-6 inches on the ground. That cold weather just won’t give up!

I am doing what I can! i would much rather be outside than on the dreadmill!

You are a champ for those long treadmill runs!

Our street didn’t get plowed until Tuesday night, and the roads were still pretty bad until they made a second pass Wednesday. I didn’t go anywhere until yesterday!

Were the kids able to play outside? It was only in the 20s here — even Scooby didn’t last long outdoors!

The kids were able to play outside one day! But it was really too cold later in the week, we were in the negatives and single digits! Hope you and Scooby finally made it out!

kudos to you for getting in so many indoor miles this week. I do remember how hard it was to have the little kids home all day from school. The schools here have been closed for more than a week! We don’t handle snow so well here lol

Those photos of the snow… wow. The kids must have been thrilled (you- not so much). But you made it through and still got in a lot of miles this week. The snow looks fluffy and cozy, but I’m sure you’re ready to get back outside. i hope you get some relief from the weather this week!

Thanks! We’re supposed to be in the 20s today, which is a lot warmer than it has been

I bet that was a long week with the unplanned schedule changes! I used to love when the kids had snow days. I was surprised we didn’t have any level 3 days in our area the past week. Sounds like the cold weather will continue and the snow will probably still be there when we get back home in two weeks!

Great job getting all of the miles done and workouts too this week!!

You certainly didn’t let being stuck inside keep you from getting in the workouts! Kudos to you! I remember that it was tough enough having two stuck at home on a snow day, I just can’t image three!

So much snow! And all those snow days…I almost feel like I’m living in the south as I read about all the snow everywhere EXCEPT for Iowa, LOL. We did get a tiny dusting this morning, which made for a pretty setting for the trail race, but it was SO cold! Great job with all those treadmill miles!

Wow, I didn’t realize you didn’t get much snow! Consider yourself lucky right now 🙂

Great week of running! I am envious of those who have treadmills at home – I have to rely on the one at the workplace gym, but with the weather lately and piles of snow and unpaved sidewalks, I couldn’t risk running outside even if I wanted to.

We also had 2 snow days, but just one kid to wrangle LOL. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon!

We invested in the treadmill when I was pregnant with my middle child. It was a slippery outside and I felt safer running inside. I could also run and walk while being home with my baby at the time. I’ve come to rely on it so much! I don’t know what I would do without it

Ugh, when will the snow stop falling in your part of the world? Only one outdoor run in a month is sad! You made the most of the treadmill though!

You’re right, it is sad! Hopefully I’ll get out more this month.
