Returning to Winter

Returning to Winter

So much for spring coming anytime soon — despite the first day of spring officially here, this week we returned to winter with a snowstorm and cold to kick off the week.

Here is what the week looked like:

Sunday: 5.14 outdoor miles running and 3.5 miles walking

Sunday I was in upstate NY with my parents, and I got in a run! I had taken nearly the whole week off of running and I wanted to see how my hip felt. Did it feel 100% normal? Nope. But did I run 10 miles on it? Also, no! I ran 5 with a short walking break about halfway through.

Then, my parents wanted to get in a walk (they’re very active with walking, swimming, etc.), and it was nice enough outside (but chilly!) for us to go walk together. We did 3.5 miles around the area before heading to a museum later in the day.

Monday: 3 miles outdoor walking, plus a little airport walking and stretching

My parents were driving me to Newark to fly back to Cleveland, and with all the TSA madness, I wanted to get to the airport extra early. So before we left in the morning, I got outside for a walk. It was raining out, so I put on my dad’s raincoat for the walk. I ended up gettinf in 3 miles before I had to head home for our drive to the airport.

Tuesday: 2.25 mi treadmill run, 2.25 miles treadmill walk, core workout, shoulder lifting

Back to reality/our schedule! I got in a short treadmill run to test the hip, followed by some walking. I also got in another Caroline Girvan core workout and shoulder workout. Oh yeah, and there was snow on the ground and coming down all day!

Wednesday: core, back and bicep workout, 3.5 treadmill miles walking

I woke up early to work out, and I had planned on getting in some weights and a long walk. Well, that didn’t happen! After getting in my weights and core workout, I started to walk, but my daughter woke up feeling sick. By the time she went back to bed, it was time to shower/get the others up for school. Luckily, I had time during the day to get in a little treadmill walking, including while working.

It’s funny – I was definitely more tired and crankier than usual as I started my day without my full workout. I even made myself some tea for a caffeine fix (I don’t regularly drink coffee or tea). Oof, just goes to show how important it is for ME to workout, even if it means waking up super early!

Not workout related, but that night one of my book clubs met to discuss our book/socialize/eat. IT was fun, and our evening’s hostess, Selen, made us a giant Turkish breakfast! It was so good!

Thursday: 4.4 mile treadmill walk on an incline, pilates core workout, back and bicep workout, 1.78 mile walk outside!

LM had been up late feeling sick, and I was up late too… so my early alarm was not easy! After doing some core and weights, I was able to get in some treadmill walking. LM was feeling okay at lunchtime, so we got in a short walk to grab her a bagel, then walked home. Luckily LM felt great the rest of the day, no more sickness woowoo!

Friday: 3.12 mile outdoor run in Columbus plus a few miles walking around the city

The kids were off of school on Friday, so Thursday night after LM’s ballet class, we go down to Columbus but a quick trip. I started the morning with a short outdoor run, it was 50° and perfect running weather around downtown! We spent the day mostly visiting COSI, but we also got in a few miles of walking.

Saturday: 3.55 hotel treadmill miles plus 2.5 mile walk

Saturday morning we had to wake up at 6:30 to be back in Cleveland for our usual Saturday activities (futsal, soccer and piano), but I know me, and I knew I would feel better if I got in a workout,  so I set an alarm to get in a short run on the hotel treadmill early. After my 3.55 miles (felt okay on my hip?), it was time for breakfast and to get back to Cleveland! Later in the day, I did get in 2.5ish mile walking, one walk with FW and another solo. Sadly, I noticed my hip was bothering me again by the end of the day. I guess it means that my Sunday long run is not happening. I really need to get better to start training for Cleveland in May!

And back on the road

total: 14.04 miles running, plus of walking and weights

Some questions for you:

  • Did you get wintry weather again this week?
  • Did you see any of the Oscar winning movies and any recommendations?
