It is spring break for the big kids here this week, but it’s also the start my busy season at work, so we typically don’t spend too much time away. That meant the week included a mini vacation AND sleeping in! Not having to get up at 4:30 a.m., but still having time to get in a walk/weights before starting my day is EVERYTHING!
Here is what the week looked like:
Sunday: 4 miles treadmill walking with the weighted vest, core, shoulder workout
Happy Easter to all who celebrate! I set my alarm for 4-something, because we had a full day ahead – 8 a.m. mass, then an egg hunt, then a brunch from 11:30-4ish. I got in some treadmill miles (with a slight incline and weighted vest) plus some weights to start the morning.
Monday: 5.1 miles of treadmill walking, weighted ab workout, chest/tricep workout and started some back/biceps, 1.23 mile outdoor walk
With spring break here, I got to sleep in! I woke up later than usual, and got in a walk and weights before having to get to work. I did get in a short walk at night, too.
Tuesday: 4.4 miles treadmill walking, back and bicep workout, some legs, and core
I had a long day in the office with lots of meetings planned, so I was grateful to get in a short workout before a long day of sitting.
Wednesday: 4.75 mile treadmill weighted vest walk with incline, core, some legs
I woke up with a headache – ugh! And GM was waking up too. So I did a core workout (Caroline Girvan – 8 min weighted abs!) and then got him out of bed to hang out while I did a walk and weights. No lunchtime walk because I spent lunch working and packing- we had plans to leave for spring break Wednesday afternoon!
Thursday: 1 mile treadmill walk, 3.75 mi outdoor hiking
After getting into the hotel late Wednesday night, Thursday morning we were all a little tired! I had time for a short post-breakfast walk before meeting the family at the hotel pool! Then we headed to our first destination– Shenandoah National Park! We got in two hikes during the day before the kids rebeled and had enough. It was a beautiful day and really not crowded, which was perfect. Then it was time to drive to Alexandria for the rest of our vacation. We walked around the Old Town area to get dinner, which was about another mile of walking. Everyone was pooped Thursday night!

Friday: 1.5 treadmill walk, then lots more vacation walking
Once again, I got in a short walk before meeting the family at the hotel pool. The day consisted of a LOT of walking for siteseeing — to see the White House, Washington Monument. Lincoln Memorial, and then to the Museum of American History. After walking to dinner again, I was at more than 23,000 steps!

Saturday: 3.1 miles treadmill walking
I set an alarm for 6 to get up and walk at the hotel gym before we started our day. I don’t typically wake up before the kids in a hotel because we share a suite and I’m worried about waking them up when I open the door (which is where they sleep), but I decided to try it. They slept through it!
The day included some museum visits and … that’s right, more walking around!

Once again, the day ended with 23,000+ steps! Three days in a row with plenty of vacation steps.

Total: Lots of walking and weights again this week
