Weekend update: Picnic and Baseball

This past week I was SO ready for the weekend. It had been a slightly busy work with catching up on work after being out, a few client meetings and presentations, and by Friday I was definitely ready for some R&R and family time.

And that is exactly what the weekend included! While B got some stuff done around the house/outside, I entertained the kids. We got in some baking (lentil banana muffins of course), and outdoor play.

For lunch on Saturday, we opted to have a picnic. B took FW on the bike and I walk/ran with LM to a nearby playground. We had lunch and the kids got in some playtime before naps.

Sunday, I took FW out for a stroller run, and we literally ran a few errands. We returned library books and then picked up some fresh bagels.

In the afternoon, we headed downtown – we had tickets to the Indians game an went as a family of 4.

FW even got a chance to see Slider, which made his day. LM also got on the Jumbotron with B!

That evening, we finished with dinner at B’s parents’ house. It’s always a nice way to end our weekend and get ready for the week ahead.

Questions for you:

  • What’s the best movie you’ve seen recently? Any recommendations?
  • How do you feel about mascots? Yay or no?

The Weekend It Didn’t Rain

You guys. We FINALLY had a weekend where it didn’t rain. No flash flood in our backyard. No mud on our shoes. We went all weekend without a drop of rain ruining any of our outdoor time and it was GREAT.

Here’s a look at some of the fun we had:

Friday after was B and LM’s school’s end of year picnic. The school closes early for preschool graduation (thank goodness we have a few years before that cryfest), and all the kids are invited to fun with facepaint, a picnic, food, games, an artshow, etc.

B and I skipped the hot dogs and ended up getting takeout, Cilantro (local Chipotle-esqe restaurant).

And the evening included some low key reading on the porch while listening to the Indians game (spoiler – they beat the Yankees!).

Saturday was another gorgeous day, so we spent most of the morning outside. It started with a stroller run and walk for LM and me – a little over 5 miles on a stroller-friendly path near our house – and then a run to the Farmers Market.

We did some shopping and hung out at the market, enjoying the weather.

Then it was time to head home. This time, FW hopped in the stroller (with some of the groceries) while B and LM biked alongside of us, and we ran home.

After we got home, everyone was pooped! After some brief women’s World Cup watching it was nap time. I even got in a quick snooze.

That afternoon included some more outdoor time – including playing with a water table and water gun! My friend Emily came over with her family – she has a 3 year old and almost 1 year old – for a little while, too.

Dinner that night was pizza on the porch. The gorgeous weather continued and we couldn’t stay inside.

Even after the kids went to bed, we went back outside for some summer reading and relaxing. I’m reading The Immortalists for book club right now and can’t put it down!

The next day included MORE outdoor time. We started the day with breakfast on the porch, followed by a ride around the block.

And then a family run! B pushed LM and I pushed FW in the stroller for an easy 5k.

We even saw a big turtle on the run!

After our run, it was time for some errands and then the Indians game! It was a hot game that went into extra innings, but they ended up losing.

We then spent some more time outside at B’s parents’ house on their swing set before heading home for the night.

It was so amazing to spend so much time outdoors. I’m pooped and slightly sunburn, but so happy to have gotten some much needed Vitamin D! (but don’t worry about our plants — of course we have rain in the forecast for today)

Some questions for you:

  • Was it clear/sunny near you?
  • What’s your favorite thing to do outside?

WIAW: Baseball Game!

I almost forgot that it was Wednesday because I had Monday off – what a great feeling! Thank goodness I remembered, just in time to participate in What I Ate Wednesday and share with you my meals and see everyone else’s meals as well.

B and I slept in on this day and ended up starting our day with lunch. We hit up Bloom, one of my favorite local bakeries and lunch places and I got this great sandwich – it’s a light chicken salad on a baguette. It came with a beet salad and I also snagged a few of B’s salt & vinegar chips (not pictured). One of my favorite flavors! It was nice enough to eat outside, so we hit up a nearby public garden to eat in.

That afternoon we were pretty busy and before I knew it it was time for our evening plans – the Indians game. I didn’t have time for my afternoon snack! Thankfully I bought some peanuts for us to enjoy while watching the game.

For dinner at the game, I opted for a grilled cheese sandwich from Melt, which has a new stand at the baseball field. I got the mushroom melt, which hit the spot! Besides craving fruit during this pregnancy, I’m also craving panini-type melted sandwiches, even in the heat.

And that was it! Not as balanced as my typical days (no fruit, VERY limited veggies, etc.), but that’s what What I Ate Wednesday is about – sharing it all, the good and the bad.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you have a ballpark eat that you typically go for?
  • Do you eat the shells on peanuts? Sometimes I do! Is that weird?

Weekend Update – Birthdays and Baseball Games

The first day of summer is officially here! And while most of Cleveland was celebrating at the annual CMA Solstice Party, once again I neglected to get tickets in time and instead celebrated the summer in other ways – two baseball games, birthday drinks and a run (not in that order) with Nicole, and a bbq with B’s family to celebrate Father’s Day.

Friday morning started early – it was Nicole’s birthday and she wanted to get in a birthday run. Now that I’m in my 3rd week of training for the Cleveland Rock N Roll Half Marathon, I knew I wanted to get in a 7-ish mile run this weekend, so it was perfect – I met her early for a longer run before work. No sweaty selfies this time 🙂

Friday after work, it was time to celebrate Nicole’s birthday. We met up for drinks at the Corner bar, the new bar at Progressive Field and had plans to watch the game with her friends.

The game ended with fireworks and then we hit up the rooftop bar at Greenhouse Tavern for after-game drinks.

Saturday morning started with some treadmill miles before B and I hit up the West Side Market for our regular groceries.

We made a pit stop for ice cream after the groceries. Mason’s Creamery is the best – I had half salted caramel and half lychee.

That night, B and I had more tickets to the Indians game – I was sitting in the #TribeLive section this time. It was also t-shirt giveaway night – wonder if my dad would like this shirt? (just a little big for me)

Sitting in the #TribeLive section we got great views and also our own private section. And a free viewing of fireworks from the dugout!

Sunday morning I attempted to be productive. After an easy workout, we headed to Heinen’s for some groceries and lunch, followed by some laundry and meal prep. We also made it to Rising Star for some coffee and Hingetown for their Sunday Market.

We finished off the evening with B’s family for a Father’s Day meal.

It’s weekends like these that are hard to be away from my family – I would love to spend Father’s Day with him – but I’m so grateful to have B’s family to lean on. AND – my dad is coming by next week so we can celebrate then.

Lazy Weekends

After having several weekends in a row with plans and stuff to do, it was nice to have a weekend home with NOTHING on the schedule. Which meant, of course, making big to-do lists (cleaning! filing! working!) but getting none of them done. Which was completely, absolutely fine because what I did get done was probably much more fun. Like doing these 7 things:

7 Ways to Spend a Lazy Weekend

1. Reading.

Finished two of the books I was in the middle of! On to Orphan Train next. Any other good summer reads to recommend?

brief wondrous life of oscar wao

just finished this!

2. Running. a 7.6 miler on Saturday and a 6.6 miler on Sunday. One of these days I’ll get a Garmin so I actually run even numbers.

Mileage for the week. The 8s are mostly 7.6 - dailymile rounds them up

30+ mi even with two days off from running this week!  Full disclosure: I never ran 8 full miles or 7 full: the 8s are mostly 7.6  and the 7 is 6.6- dailymile rounds them up

3. Baking. Once again we had a surplus of blueberries from our CSA, so I whipped up a batch of Blueberry Buttermilk Scones.

as B says, Game of Scones!

4. Pho-ing. Yeah, I know that’s not a word. But Friday night B and I hit up our favorite Pho place for some salads, spring rolls and bun. Sorry, bun not pictured (but enjoyed very much!)

5. Suiteing! Yup, again, stretching it with the word, but B and I enjoyed a fun Indians game on Sunday in after a friend asked us to join him in their company suite.

6. Cooking at home. Which meant pasta from Ohio City Pasta (via Fresh Fork) and Limoncello from Italy!

7. Enjoying new flavors of ice cream. Because what summer weekend would be complete without it? Pictured below (sorry it’s somewhat blurry) is orange ginger from Rothschild Creamery!

Despite not cleaning, or doing the work I wanted to, as you can tell, it was a pretty good weekend after all.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you enjoy after dinner drinks like Limoncello? What’s your favorite?
  • Any fun flavors of ice cream you’ve tried lately?
  • What’s a new book I should add to my list?

Wordless Wednesday: Weekend Collage

I had such a great weekend – from a homemade Italian meal (thanks to Gallucci’s) Friday night, to Marine Week festivities (including checking out their live invasion of Lake Erie) and a Saturday night on the rooftop, to a Sunday Indians game with friends (thanks to Cari for the photos and Devin for taking/asking people to take them) and then Fathers’ Day celebrations.  It was so much fun, but I’m still too tired to write about it. So instead? A semi-wordless Wednesday post with a photo collage instead.
