Training Tuesday- Back Outside Again!

I’m not going to lie- I’m a little sore. Why? Because I had two days in a row of outside runs!

Two outdoor runs, a few treadmill walks and and some indoor walk/runs, and I hit 22ish miles for the week. Here’s what it looked like:

Some highlights:

The weather warmed up a bit this week, and all of the ice and snow melted Thursday off the sidewalks. So when Friday morning rolled around and it was clear and 30°, I got bundled up and went for a run outside. It was hard – I’m getting bigger and bigger (see the bump pic, below!) and haven’t been running, but I’m glad I made it out.

Saturday, B took FW in the BOB and I followed along on another run outside! Again, it wasn’t easy but it felt so so good to be outside.

Running outside feels so much better than the treadmill to me these days. On the treadmill, I’m only really able to walk/run, and outside there’s much more running than walking going on.

I’m 27 weeks pregnant this week, and hopeful that I can continue this level of activity for the next few months. I know it’s not going to get easier on my body, and that bump pictured above is only going to get bigger, but at least the weather will be getting nicer! AND I have the Cleveland Marathon 5k/10 to train for. If you’re planning on running the Cleveland Marathon or any of the events this May – half marathon, 5k, 8k 10, 1 mile (new!) or kids run – use the code MCCLE10 for 10% off your entry fee. I’m an ambassador for the race, so I get to have fun discounts AND I’ll have a giveaway coming up!

Some questions for you:

  • Any tips for running while pregnant?
  • Do you do better running on a treadmill or outside?

  1. Glad to hear you got outside! Isn’t it so much better to run outside?

I’m so impressed that you are running pg. I couldn’t run when I was pg–I had zero energy!

  2. I agree, running outside always seems so much easier than on the treadmill. I can’t seem to run consistently on the treadmill, it is more of an interval workout. Great job keeping up with your runs. And like you said, it’ll start getting warmer out so that should help.

  3. I’m so impressed you’re still running at 27 weeks pregnant! I admit that I quit (much) earlier than that with both my kids! I often run faster outside than I do on the treadmill, I think seeing the pace on the TM gets into my head and I think I can’t possibly hold that pace.

  4. Running at 27 weeks pg is amazing in my book. I was put on bedrest at 16 weeks for both of my kids so I barely moved let alone ran. Hooray for getting outside. I prefer it but I’ll do what’s necessary if I have to hit the mill.

  5. Isn’t it great when all of the snow melts and when 30 degree weather is a perfect day for running? Yep, that is how I’ve been feeling this winter. I enjoy running both outside and on the treadmill but it depends on the run. An easy or long run I enjoy outside. If it is something pace specific then I enjoy the treadmill because it keeps me on pace. However, lately I’ve been hitting most of my paces so that makes me happy.

  6. I’ve run way too much on the treadmill this winter. Our hills are killing me now.

I didn’t run at all for either of my pregnancies, so I have no advice. Hope it all continues to go smoothly for you.
