It was NOT an ordinary week in running. Why? I decided to get in my virtual Cleveland Half Marathon miles done and ended my week with a half marathon and 5k! That’s right, I’ve completed my first virtual race and was able to get in a half marathon by myself Friday morning while my house was still asleep.
Here’s a look at the week:
Sunday: 5.51 mi
Monday: 5.13 mi
Tuesday: 5.5 mi
Wednesday: 4 mi
Thursday: off
Friday: 13.11 mi * Cleveland Marathon Half Marathon
Saturday: 3.1 mi * Cleveland Marathon 5k (plus another 1.03 mi)
Total: 37.38 miles
Some highlights-
The week started off as usual. I got in some runs before work, on what was a seasonably chilly week. We even had several days of snow! (thankfully nothing really stuck)
As I got the end of the week, I decided that I’d try to do an impromptu half marathon on Friday morning. I wasn’t sure if I could do it – or would have time to do it before work and everyone waking up – but wanted to try to see if I could. And if I could, I would have my Cleveland half marathon virtual race complete!
I set my alarm for 4:30 a.m. on Friday and got out early. I wanted to be done or nearly done before anyone in the house got up! It ended up being 40-something and a light drizzle, not my favorite weather.

Well, I did it! It was longer than I remembered, not my favorite weather, and I needed to stop and grab water back at my house around mile 8. But I finished! It was one of my slowest races, but I’m so glad I was able to complete it.

Oh yeah, and Saturday, I got up and did a 5k!

Which means that I was able to complete the Cleveland Marathon challenge series — running a 5k or 10k a day before or after the half or full. I’ll do a recap later, but that was my complete first virtual race- Rite Aid Cleveland Half Marathon! You can still sign up to do it too, the actual run just needs to be done by mid-May, so you have a few more weeks to get it in.
Some questions for you:
- Have you run any virtual races lately?
- Are running more? Less? The same these days?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
