This week was exciting — on Friday, I got the all-clear from my doctor to resume running again!
At six weeks postpartum, I’ll be honest with you – I don’t feel 100% like myself. Unlike with my two other kids, I’m not feeling back to normal right now. But getting the OK to run, made me SO excited and I can’t wait to get back into shape!
With that development, here’s what this week entailed:
Sunday – Thursday: I got out for walks each day, getting in 3-4ish miles of walking each morning and sometimes an afternoon walk as well. But the real excitement (for me) came on Friday!
Friday: 1.5 miles on the treadmill – after getting the OK to run from my doctor, I was dying to get in some miles and see how I felt. While LM and GM were napping (B and FW weren’t home), I hopped on the treadmill and got in 1.5 miles. They were HARD and I was dying by .5 miles.
Saturday: MY FIRST OUTDOOR RUN! I did 3.1 miles by myself, and then when I got home, my kids were waiting for me to run with me and dressed in track suits for the occasion.
I’ll be honest – I was already sore and tired, but running a little with them made my morning. I ended up at about 3.75 miles.
Some thoughts as I get back into running:
As I shared in the post above, it is HUMBLING. And HARD. I really don’t remember it being this hard with the first two kids, but I have to remind myself that each birth and baby is different and be kind to myself as my body recovers.
I hope to continue to do my postpartum ab workouts. I’ve been doing diastasis recti workouts nearly every day and even though they’re only 10ish minutes long, I am hopeful that they’re helping my DR, which is important as I get back into running.
I need to remember to stretch! After my run on Saturday I stretched and rolled out my foot with a golf ball, as my foot was already starting to hurt and feel tight. Fingers crossed that I can get back into running without any issues and stay healthy!
IT’S ALMOST CLEVELAND MARATHON TIME! I’m an ambassador for the Cleveland Marathon events! The race weekend is scheduled for October 23-24, and includes several events, including a half marathon, full marathon, 5k and 10k. I was hoping to do the 5K this year. But, given my 5K on Saturday, perhaps I can shoot for the 10k?
If you’re interested in signing up or the race, I have good news. You register here and use my discount code: MELCCLESAVE10 for 10% off.
Above all, I’m grateful to be back out there and back running, even if it’s slow and hard!
