Summer is my favorite of them all

I love and always have loved summertime. It’s my favorite season. I love the longer days, the warm weather, the sunshine, the more relaxed atmosphere, being able to be outside all day long, sleeping in … need I go on?

I even don’t mind summer running. Do I prefer 45 degrees to 85 degrees if I’m running a half marathon? Yes, indeed. But if I’m just doing any everyday run, I prefer summer.

This past week was a good week, in terms of summertime fun. It included a walk along the beach with my parents and brother, some swimming, baseball, and a birthday celebration. What could be better?

Well, I didn’t get in as much running as I would’ve liked – but I did have a fun week. You can’t have it all!

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: active rest day! I didn’t get much sleep Saturday night and was glad to take the day off — I had been up until almost 1 a.m. when my brother flew in (his flight was delayed from Germany) and then B woke up at 4-something to go golfing. I still got in plenty of steps from our walk to brunch with my family, and then we went for a few miles walking in the afternoon around and along the beach.

Monday: 3.51 miles run plus core workout. The kids had the day off school, so I slept in a little before going for a run. It ended up being a busy day of work and I didn’t get in a walk like I had planned later in the day.

Tuesday: 3.15 miles – 2 mile run, 1.15 mile run/walk I had to be at work before 6 a.m. (!), which meant I left my house at 5 a.m. so I didn’t wake up at 3 a.m. to run. I still was able to get in a short walk before work, and then a walk and short run after my busy morning.

Wednesday: 4.5 miles plus core workout. I was finally back in my routine! It felt good to get outside and run and even get back in some core workout.

Thursday: 5.01 miles and core workout, plus 2 mile walk later in the day. I finished at 4.6 miles, checked the baby monitor and GM was still asleep, and then decided to get in .4 more to make it to 5. It was a good choice 🙂

Friday: 6.01 miles.  I had taken the day off for FW’s birthday but I still set an alarm to get out and run. I’m glad I did – it isn’t often that I get in 6 miles these days, and I was feeling pretty good about it.

Saturday: 6.02 miles – Another 6 miler! This one I had quite a few walking breaks and was not happy – but overall it was a nice way to end the week.

Total mileage: 29.28 miles run + miscellaneous walking

Questions for you:

  • Is summertime a rest time for you or is it busier?
  • Do you do summer races?

  1. Well, I’m all about the summer…heat (and humidity, by default, LOL), long days and being outside. I LOVE it all 😉

  2. I am the opposite. I hate summer. Love summer vacation, hate the season. I’m sure I would like it more up north, but here it’s just swampy and eternal.

This is our 5K season, so yes, I’m doing lots of those.

  3. Busy week and early starts! but great that you finally got back into your routine! I’d say that’s some excellent mileage for sure! I love summer, but my favorite is early fall when it’s a bit cooler and WAY less humid. I really can’t stand the humidity. I like to do fall races so you have to train in the summer, no way around it.
