Soaking in Sweet Summertime

Can summer just last forever? Please?

I know, I profess my love for summer at least once a month. But as it goes by so fast, I can’t help but wish it would last longer. The sleeping in, sunny mornings and ice/snow-less weather is the best for running!

It was a good week activity and family-wise. I got in some runs nearly every day, got in my longest run since half marathon training, and we celebrated my son’s 2nd birthday!

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 7.07 miles. This was my longest run since the Cleveland Half Marathon and I was glad to get outside and get it in! I woke up and got out before anyone in the house was up, which made my day get off to a great start.

Monday: 5.01 miles miles run plus core workout, then short (15 min) swim later in the day. I got in my run and core workout as usual. Then, instead of B taking the kids to swimming lessons (as what usually happens), I did! And while they swam I watched about half their lessons, then did about 15 minutes of laps. It was tiring — I can’t remember the last time I did that!

Tuesday: 4.08 mile run plus longer core workout. Pretty standard run and core workout, but just a little longer core workout than usual.

Wednesday:  4.02 mile run plus core workout, plus 2 mile walk later in the day. I got in my run as planned, and during lunch break got in a nice two mile walk. It was a great mid-day break!

Thursday:  4.26 miles and quick core workout. I could not stop snoozing this day! Wednesday nights are busy – we have baseball and swimming lessons for the kids, and we decided to go out for ice cream at the end of the day. I started with a walk and then decided.I would finish with a run. I went to some of the nearby trails that I enjoy and was happy to start my morning off this way.

Friday: 4.03 mile run plus core workout in the morning and 2ish miles walking later I got up early before enjoying a day at home with the kiddos. After working, we spent some time at a small kids gym, which they loved. GM loved the mini kids treadmill!

Saturday: 3.51 miles plus 2ish walking – I got up early to run before everyone in the house was awake – we had plans to walk to breakfast and I wanted to be up and out the door early so nobody was hangry. After a short run and quick shower, we were out the door around 8. It was GM’s birthday,  and we spent the day celebrating him.  I can’t believe he is 2!

Total mileage: 31.99 miles run

Questions for you:

  • Can you walk to food places/restaurants where you live?
  • If you were at 31.99 mi would you run .01 more?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Looks like a great week for you! We don’t live within walking distance to any restaurants but I can bike to them. Happy birthday to your baby!

  2. Happy Birthday to your little guy! Our downtown is just under a mile away, so I walk downtown a lot for errands (and meals on occasion).

  3. Happy birthday to your little! Love that photo!

We could walk to a shopping center with some fast casual places, but we haven’t done that since the fro-yo place left. And it’s a 1.5 miles uphill walk on the way home.

  4. Yes, I would probably try to run that last .01! : ) But it wouldn’t kill me if it didn’t happen.
Sounds like you had a great week with lots of running. And I know- I’m not a fan of the summer weather in Florida, but I love the more relaxed days. I don’t want it to end either!
    Happy Birthday to GM!

  5. That’s an easy question for me, London is very walkable- restaurants and pubs and coffee shops, etc. which is pretty great since we don’t have a car here, ha! Actually the tubes are going on strike all week, so I’m going to be run commuting or busing…

Anyways, I agree with you about bottling up summer! I wish it was at least a month longer. July is nearly over, eeks!

  6. Happy birthday to your little one!

We can easily walk to a few places (grocery store and restaurants) and that’s really nice. It really depends on the weather as to whether or not we do that, though.

If I were at 31.99 miles of course I would run .01 more. How is that even a question? LOL 😉

  7. Happy birthday to that cutie! How fun!

Yes, I would run that extra .01. No question.

Technically, we could walk to several places to eat. Realistically, no. It’s so hot and humid, that by the time we got there, we would be sweaty hot messes. I wish that wasn’t the case, but here we are.

  8. great mileage! and I love summer too. well, when it’s nice. right now we are having typical dutch summer – rain, rain, rain. And my clothes hanging outside are literally never going to dry! (I hung them when it was sunny. seems ages ago now).

I think if I had known I was going to have 31.99 miles I might have gone just a wee bit more to make it an even 32 😀

we walk everywhere. in our neighborhood about 100 meters further is a cafe, 500 meters is a bar that we really like, 700m the other direction a restaurant we like and are only about 1KM from the city center where there are plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants. We just walked to a fabulous italian place last night to celebrate our 20 year meet-aversary 🙂
