Slow Down

Between summer going by so fast, and all of my kids having birthdays within the past few months, I can’t help but feel that time is flying by too fast. Can we just slow down time, just a little?

While my running pace has slowed down as I’ve gotten older, the pace of time seems to just keep going, and sometimes too fast. I’m grateful to still be out there and able to run, but really wish I could see some of my faster paces again!

As summer winds down, I can already feel the days getting shorter and as a bonus, I’m getting to catch a few gorgeous sunrises in the morning.

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 4.04 miles. I wanted to get in some miles before my parents hit the road, so I got out a little early, and headed back early.

Monday: 4.14 miles miles run plus core workout. After such a fun long weekend, it was hard to get up and back into the routine. We had a weekend of birthday parties, dinners out, family visits, and lots of fun.

Tuesday: 4.01 mile run plus longer core workout. Pretty standard run and core workout, but just a little longer core workout than usual.

Wednesday:  5.13 mile run plus core workout, plus 1.5 mile walk later in the day. I got in my run as planned, and was happy to get in 5 miles after a few days of just 4. During my lunch break, I got in a nice 1.5 mile walk. It was HOT out but I was glad to get outside.

pink skies in morning …

Thursday:  4.26 miles and quick core workout, then 1.5 mile walk later in the day. I could not stop snoozing this day! Thursdays I’m pooped and this morning was no exception. Wednesday night we had some crazy storms come in and they kept me up – but thankfully nobody else in the house seemed to wake up so I was able to get back to sleep eventually. But when my alarm went off I was dragging! I ended up convincing myself to go out for a walk, and then of course it turned into a slow run.

Friday: 4.03 mile run plus core workout in the morning and 2ish miles walking later I got up early before enjoying a day at home with the kiddos. After working, we spent some time at a small kids gym, which they loved. GM loved the mini kids treadmill!

Saturday: 2.6 treadmill miles plus 2 m walk– I had set my alarm to run outside early before a birthday party we had at 9 a.m., but instead was woken up to torrential downpours, thunder and lightning at 5 a.m. I tossed and turned for a few, and finally got out of bed at 6:30 to hit the treadmill … when all the kids decided to get up to. By the time I finally got them up, changed and then downstairs, I only ended up with about 20 minutes for my run before having to get ready for the day. Thankfully the rain stopped in the afternoon, and I was able to get in a 2 mile walk.

Total mileage: 27.91 miles run

Questions for you:

  • When was the last time you ran on a treadmill?
  • What streaming shows/movies are you watching these days?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. I haven’t run in a treadmill in ages. I just don’t enjoy it at all. I do like walking on my treadmill sometimes and do this as a warm up often. It is normal to see your times slow as you age. Mine did that and then picked up again in my 50’s.

  2. Hmm, great question. Why is it that my running pace has slowed so much, but the overall pace of life is speeding by? Why can’t we switch that?
Sounds like you had a very solid week of running. To answer your question, I ran on the treadmill this week! I’ve been doing speed work on the treadmill lately. I like the treadmill, and it’s a nice break from the heat outside. I wouldn’t want to run on it TOO much- once a week is fine.

  3. Gee, I think I ran on my treadmill, maybe, in January? It really needs replacing, but I am at odds at what to do about it since I rarely run on it anyways.

  4. I did hill training on the TM recently when I was preparing for Leadville. It has been just too darned hot outside to work that hard, lol! I don’t love the TM but I’m glad I have it.

It’s really hard to see the kids growing up so fast. Trust me when I tell you that you never get used to it!!!

  5. Actually watching Never have I ever on Netflix.

    I hate treadmills… it’s been yeas I think… I don’t own one but I may have run on one in a hotel.

With this hot humid weather, I was tempted though.

  6. I ran on the mill twice this past week. It’s been so dang hot + the storms have been terrible. Nice job getting out there! Between the end of June and now all three other people who live in this household have had birthdays. I can finally take down the happy birthday sign. Haha!

  7. You have definitely thad a lot going on these last few weeks! It can be kind of a downer when there is a normal week.

I took to the treadmill this weekend. We were in atlanta and I’m not familiar enough with the city to venture out on my own. I figured out where I would go to run outside though, so for next time, I can ditch the hotel gym and explore.

  8. It’s always hard to get back into the swing of things after fun with visiting family members. And yes, our children grow up way too fast!

I ran on my treadmill about a month ago, but it was for only a mile or two just to check things out.

We just finished watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV. I really liked it!

  9. time sure is flying…but running does help “slow things down” a bit, or at least makes the days fuller/longer? I don’t think I’ll ever get back to my marathon PR times, but I love running just the same. It isn’t just about the paces 🙂

  10. Time is massively flying. And I’m definitely slower than I ever was. I don’t get it! I’m just glad I can I guess at this stage!

I actually ran very briefly on the treadmill this week. VERY briefly. like 8 minutes haha! I may do more for intervals and/or if it’s just too rainy out which is like every day for the last weeks…

good mileage for you this past week – do you feel good about the miles you are getting under your belt?
