I know I say it all the time – but summer is my favorite. So this week I’m in mourning over our last full week of summer. My 2nd grader goes back to school next week, and our kindergartener (!) starts the week after. This is our last full week with everyone home. Our last full week of sleeping in, not having to rush out the door, etc. So even with work, I tried to soak it all up!
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 6.2 mi (10K) run, and 2 mile walk later in the day. It was nice out, so I opted outside for a 10K that was slower than I would’ve liked (10:40 min/miles, including lots of walking) but then got in a nice rejuvenating 2 mile walk at naptime. It was our last Sunday before soccer season starts, and I was glad to take advantage of it!

Some turtles and birds on my walk
Monday: 5.05 miles miles run plus core workout and upper back/posture workout. I woke up early for a run, and ended up with extra time for a core workout and posture workout. I’ve noticed that when I sit on the exercise bike, I slouch tremendously, and it ends up hurting my back. So, I’m now determined not to slouch (as much). I found some YouTube videos with exercises that supposedly helps, so fingers crossed if I start doing them more, I’ll see and feel a difference.

beautiful sunrise!
Tuesday: 5.05 miles miles run plus core workout and upper back/posture workout. Same as Monday, not much different.
Wednesday: 4.14 mile run plus core workout, plus 2 mile walk later in the day. I had to get outside of the house early for a coffee meeting in the morning, so I didn’t get in a full workout. But, I was luckily able to walk to and from my coffee meeting, giving me some more steps!
Thursday: 3.2 miles run, 20 minutes on the bike (~6 miles) and core and posture workouts and 2.7 mi walk later I wasn’t feeling the run, so I decided to try to finish strong (under 10 min/miles) and then hop on the bike. I’m grateful to have an indoor bike for days that I want to keep up my fitness but cross-train. I did a 20 minute workout class and it was HARD – I’m not really great at the high resistance yet! Later in the day I had time at lunch to get in a 2.71 mile walk, which always puts me in a great mood.
Friday: 4.54 mile run and 1.76 mi walk. I took the day off and was able to “sleep in” until GM woke up at 6:30 for this run. I opted to not go too long, so we could get started on our day. Later I was able to get in a 1.76 mile walk, after a trip to the Children’s Museum with the kiddos. That evening there was a lot of running around as we went to FW’s soccer practice/photos and season kick off event.

Museum fun
Saturday: 3.59 mile run plus core and posture workouts, then ~2ish mile family walk B had to get up early for golfing with his friends and brothers, so I set my alarm to get in a short run before they went out. I hate setting my alarm for weekends, but knew I’d feel much better equipped to handle the 3 kids without B for 7 hours if I had some fitness first. I set my alarm for 5:15, got in 3.59 miles and a little extra workout, put in some french toast casserole in the oven, and when the kids were all up at 6:30 we had breakfast almost ready! Later in the morning I took the 3 of them for a walk and they were able to burn up some of the extra energy they had. We finished the day with an outdoor mass and church block party where the kids ran around even more. We ended the day tired!
Total mileage: 31.54 miles run plus 40 minutes on the indoor bike
Questions for you:
- Do you slouch? Any tips for stronger backs so you don’t?
- Have kids gone back to school near you yet? Some schools have started up already, but we start next week. Growing up I always started after Labor Day so it feels too soon here!
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

I used to teach spin classes and I am still a big fan of them. Sounds like maybe your seat and handlebar position could be adjusted a little to help with your posture. You want to be hinging forward at the hips but not slouching. Handlebars are just for balance. Check YouTube for videos on proper bike fit 🙂
Yes! You are right. I realize my seat was too low do I raised it up a little bit. Maybe that will help!
That sunrise! So pretty…
I’m sad about the end of summer as well. Much too short. Great week, you fit a lot in!
I’m so out of the back-to-school loop…I think our local schools start this next week, though. I remember (all too well!) the crazyness this time of year!
I always started school after Labor Day too but for some reason schools start SO early now. We’re starting our third week of high school already and the elementary and middle schools started last week. It’s too soon if you ask me. Hope your kiddos have a great school year!
Maybe you need a bike fitting? Are you sure your seat/handle bars are in the right position? Other than that, it’s about “consciously” working on sitting upright and not slouching… 😉
Sounds like you had a pretty solid week of running with some strength workouts sprinkled in! Great job!
I’m very guilty of slouching on the bike but I realised quickly. Like Deborah said, see if you can adjust something to make posture easier. And hip hinging is key. Bend at the hip and keep a neutral back, you can do this even if you lean forward quite a bit.
Nice week of workouts!
I’m kind of sad that summer is almost gone, but considering what this summer has been for me, when I can go for walks again I’ll be so happy that I won’t really care what season it is!
That museum looks fun!
We are starting our second full week of school. We’ve already had our first football game and things are underway. The heat is still there, though. Boo.
I will say I do have good posture. I spent a lot of time in ballet and riding horses, so it stuck. I also love being tall and good posture makes me appear even more so.
School started this week, and I’ll admit I did get a bit teary when I saw the little ones getting on the school bus! I hope your kids have a great year.
I have horrible posture at my desk because I’m leaning over to read my second screen— I try to catch myself!
Fall is my favorite season so ….
The children in our county went back to school today. I was out on my run while watching them all walking to the bus stop – it was adorable. I hope your children have a great school year!
