Taking It Easy

Well, with back to school also comes back-to-school sickness. And I succumbed this week to the sickness! Monday night through Tuesday I was not feeling great — stomachache, fever, etc. And then my husband got it. So I’ve been recovering most of the week – trying to catch up on sleep (aka not waking up at 4:30 to run), and trying to move my body when I can.

So, this week did not go as planned. It started off strong with a 7 miler but then went downhill.

Here’s how it looked, plus a few fun non-running things:

Sunday: 4.08 mi stroller run with GM. It was HOT when we went out early in the morning, but I was still glad to be able to get in 4 miles before our day. Our day included apple picking (my favorite!) and then a Guardians game. Three-day weekends are the best – they make me want to go do things on Sundays, as opposed to get ready for the week ahead. And, with the Labor Day holiday, FW miraculously didn’t have a soccer game!

Monday: 7.01 miles. With the day off, I was able to get outside and get in a 7 mile run before brunch with B’s family. It was HOT again, so I did end up stopping a lot and running on as many trails as I could find to stay shaded and cool. Later that day we were able to hit up the pool for the last day it was open for the season.

Tuesday: NO RUN – 1.69 mi walk. I did not feel well this day. I was up most of the night with chills and then feeling nauseous (and if you know me, you know that I don’t ever throw up … so naturally, I didn’t. But just felt positively awful all night/morning instead), so I took it easy during the day. I rested, worked, napped, worked and then got in a short walk to soak in some Vitamin D.

Wednesday: Lunch run  – 3.33 miles.  I wasn’t feeling that great in the morning, but by lunchtime I was dying to get outside. It was in the 80s already but I attempted a few miles.

Thursday: 3.39 miles run and ~1 mile walk. I set my alarm for early again, but couldn’t get out of bed in the morning. I finally got out and made it a few miles mostly running, with a few walking breaks. My legs and breath just couldn’t keep up. Hopefully I start to feel better soon!

Friday: 5.14 miles run and ~1 mile walk. I was feeling a little better this morning and happy to get out for a 5 mile run. I didn’t get in as long as a run as last Friday and there was still some walking, but it felt good to write down 5 on my running log.

Saturday: 5.43 mile run I woke up early but couldn’t get back to sleep, so I was able to get in a longer solo run than I typically do on a Saturday before we had a busy day. Our day included soccer for FW, soccer for LM, a birthday party for LM’s friend and then a pizza night with neighbors.  I was tired but finally feeling better!

Total mileage: 28.58 mi

Questions for you:

  • Do you get sick to your stomach or are you like me and you don’t, but feel nauseous?
  • Are your weekends busy or low key lately?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Sorry you all were not feeling well. Always smart to back off when you feel like you need to. You still got in quite an active week. Have a better week ahead!

Ooh so sorry to hear about your illness. Well done getting out to get some movement done while you felt unwell. So glad you’re feeling better!
I get nauseous whatever illness I get…(well maybe not the common cold) but I only ever throw up if I get a real norovirus or the likes. I’ve learned to recognise what is what.

Ugh, we are seeing a lot of sickness in the clinic too. I hate throwing up. Last spring both my medical assistant and I got the stomach flu from a patient. We don’t know how we got it because we were still masking then. I’ve started masking for sick patients now–I don’t want to get anything that’s going around. I hope you are feeling better!

So sorry you were sick. Back to school time is the worst for germs. You got some decent miles in despite not feeling well! Many of my co-workers have been ill recently, fingers crossed I do not catch it. I never get more than one day off at a time and I really miss having a whole weekend off, not to mention a LONG weekend!

You had a nice end to your holiday weekend with lots of fun family time! Ugh on being sick, but it sounds like you’re feeling better now.

That’s a bummer on the sickness! Glad you’re feeling better. You did get in some decent mileage, all things considered. I cannot remember the last time I was sick with vomiting…ugh. It’s been 20+ years, and I hope that streak continues 😉

Ugh, I am so sorry you got sick… I hate the feeling of being sick although it’s “nice” to be forced to slow down a bit sometimes. I hope you’re feeling much better.

Aw, I’m sorry. I had an easy week, too, more for injury than illness, but same idea.

Our weekends are crazy busy: Friday Night Lights, events, band camps, client shoots, catching up. It’s madness.

When I get sick, I am all about throwing up. It feels so much better to get everything out.
