Where is the sun?

Just two weeks ago it was sunny and 80s here. It was glorious! But now it feels like we can’t catch any sunshine – it has rained more days on than off the past few days and I am done with it.

I know I’m complaining, but not only are the clouds so gloomy, but they aren’t condusive to my runs! Why?

  • They make it even darker (if possible) when I run in the morning
  • The sidewalks are slippery
  • I get caught in puddles and my socks and shoes are soaked for days
  • My trails are all muddy
  • If it’s raining when I go out, I get wet and cold and can’t seem to get warm at all the rest of the day!

Here’s to hoping we have a little break and some sun peeks through again soon. At least I’ve still gotten to go out for my runs as planned for the most part. Here’s what the week entailed:

Sunday:  5 miles I didn’t have time to get in any longer of a run because FW had an early soccer game, but I was glad that it was between rain for most of my run. We had two soccer games and a birthday party scheduled for the day, so it was busy day and not much free time, which meant I was glad to get in the run when I could.

Monday: 5.8 miles total run plus core workout and 1.5 mile walk.  I was tired Monday morning, but got out of bed in time to get in a core workout and 5.2 mile run. I also got in a walk with GM before it was time to go to work. Then, I took the kids to xc, so I was also able to get in another run, bringing my total to 5.8 miles. It was the kids’ last practice and they had a mini xc meet where they all ran a mile. I was so proud of FW and LM for their hard work!

Tuesday: 4.03 mi run plus core workout and 3.22 miles walking. I was able to get in two walks during the day – one in the morning after the bus and one during lunch, when it wasn’t raining out! We were able to grab fresh bagels from the nearby bagel shop and GM grabbed mine to eat half of it 🙂

Wednesday: 5.31 miles run and 2 mi walk I almost didn’t get in any workouts Wednesday again. This time it was due to GM waking up right before my alarm went off, at 4:25. He finally went back to bed, but I knew if I moved, he would wake up again. So, I stayed in bed and waited until 6 a.m. to get up and start getting ready for the day. Sure enough, as soon as I got out of bed, he woke up. I finally made it out for a run after the big kids got on the bus, but that meant no morning walk or core workout before getting started on my work day. Luckily I was able to still get in an afternoon lunch walk and it was beautiful out!

Thursday: 5 miles run and core workout plus ~2 miles walking.  I was tired and barely got out of bed in time to get out for a run. I managed to have time for a run, but no core workout before it was time to get everyone ready for their day. Then, GM and I got in a stroller walk. It was a beautiful morning – pink skies and not too cold – I was comfortable wearing just a vest!

Friday: 5.13 mi run and core workout plus 5 miles walking. I got in a run and core workout before the kiddos woke up and after the big kids were off to school, I took GM in the stroller for a 2 mile walk. It started drizzling while we were out, but it was “warm” (50s) so he (and thus I) didn’t mind. Then, I was able to get in a walk at lunch too, bringing it to 5 miles of walking.

Saturday: 2.38 miles “race” It was my kids’ school’s 5K/1 mile fun run and with B out of town, I was only able to do the 1 mile event this year. It was my first time not running their 5k, and I definitely had FOMO. Later I had 15 min to kill before FW’s piano lesson and made it out for a short run during the  audiobook, I enjoyed the solitude.

Total mileage: 32.65 mi

Questions for you:

  • Do you like watching 5K races or just spectating?
  • Did you get cold and wet weather this week?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. We definitely had some cooler weather this week, some rain but it doesn’t sound as bad as yours! Sounds like you did a good job of juggling the kids and getting your runs in! I like spectating but I sure do get FOMO!

  2. Sometimes you just have to be flexible with your workouts, and you did a great job fitting in what you could!

I do enjoy spectating races. I’d especially rather cheer a 5K than run one. 😉

    Your fall colors look gorgeous!

  3. We also had a lot of rain this week but it was on and off and did not really deter me too much. Way to juggle all the kiddos schedules and still get in your daily runs

  4. You got in lots of runs. I’m always impressed since you have little ones.

We were in New England and it was definitely cooler up there than here in Virginia. It looks like we’re going to be in the mid-70’s here later this week.

  5. Just reading this reminded me how miserable it is to be cold and wet! You do an amazing job of fitting everything in. It’s not easy to get up in the cold and dark when you’re tired, and go for a run- but you manage to do it. Sounds like a good week overall, and I love the pictures of your kids running!

  6. I can’t remember the last time (if ever?) I’ve spectated a 5K other than as part of marathon spectating as well. I have volunteered at many, though, so I guess that counts (though, my attention is more focused on my job at hand than “enjoying” the atmosphere).

  7. I can totally relate to being fed up with clouds and rain… when it’s gloomy for too long it drains me of energy.
I would enjoy watching a 5k! I watched a 10k that my husband ran earlier this year.

  8. Lots of rain in London this week as well, my long run was a drenched mess.

Love those fall colours! So pretty there this time of year.

  9. Sorry about your sunlessness. We’ve had a ton of sun and the rain seems to be gone. Hurricane season ends soon, so we are entering our dry winter.

I prefer running to spectating, but the race atmosphere is so infectious.
