Turkey Week Runs

Well that was a whirlwind week! The past few days I’ve traveled 20+ hours in the car, spending time in three different states (not including Ohio!), but my heart is so full. I haven’t seen this family since lsat Thanksgiving, and while a year flies by, it’s been too long.

Thanks to all the travel and hours in the car, and not being home, my workouts were a little less than regular this week. But of course, it’s all worth it. It included a few runs, some time in hotel pools, and a Turkey Trot.  Here’s how the week looked – and this week you get to see my workouts and also time in the car, for something new :):

Sunday: 5.15 miles running + 3.63 miles walking with the fam. It was a beautiful day and after my run, and we got out for another hike with the family. This time, we walked to a new playground, and then to my favorite Boba shop for some bubble tea and milk buns. It was GM’s first time trying a mango cheese milk tea drink and milk bun, and of course he LOVED them! It was chilly, but great to get in such a long walk with the full family.

Monday: 4.21 mile run, core workout and 1.62 mile walk. I woke up late, so only had time for fourish miles. It was also 30 degrees and my coldest run of the season, so I was definitely dillydallying getting out the door. Luckily, I still was able to get in a short walk with GM before work.

Tuesday: 21 minutes on the rowing machine, 17 minutes on the bike, 3.63 miles on the treadmill and core workout. (and 4.5 hours in the car) I woke up to rain and cold – it was “feels like 30s” and rainy, which is truly my least favorite running weather, well besides ice. I don’t mind the rain when it’s warm but in the cold as soon as I get wet I get frozen! So instead, I hit up our basement and got in some time on the rowing machine and bike, followed by a little treadmill run later on. It wasn’t quite what I wanted to do before hitting the road, but it is always nice to mix things up!

Wednesday: REST DAY! 1.5 mile walk (and another 4.5 hours in the car). We had gone to bed pretty late on Tuesday after not getting into Pennsylvania late, and then it was up early with the kids for hotel breakfast, hotel pool and then we were able to get in a walk around the town we were staying in before getting on the road again. I realized this was my first day not running since Labor Day weekend – I didn’t quite realize I had a little streak going on.

Thursday: 5.14 miles run – 5K Turkey Trot plus 2 treadmill miles post race. I love me a good Turkey Trot, and the race in Stratford, Connecticut never disappoints.  It always feels a little longer than it should, but it’s nice to run in neighborhoods that I don’t typically frequent. It’s a smaller race than Troy (where I grew up) or Cleveland, and there’s another Turkey Trot a town over which is a lot bigger, but it’s fun to run in the local race. AND this was the first year that FW did a Turkey Trot! He ran the 5K with me, which was a great time. LM, GM and him also did the Kids Run first, which is just about a block but also a fun time (and free!). I think he burnt out after racing the Kids Run though, because after only about a half a mile in the 5K he was complaining about leg pain. He still finished strong and even with his leg pain, and having to stop twice (once because one of the safety pins fell off his bib and I had to put it back on, and once because he was hot so he took off his sweatshirt and then I pinned his bib from his sweatshirt onto his racing shirt), he finished in about 34 minutes. After the race, I got in 2 miles on the hotel gym treadmill and then it was time for some more hotel pool and then Thanksgiving with my family.

Guess which kid didn’t like the Kids Run? GM actually got scared at the start – they told everyone to go and everyone ran away and he burst into tears! He finished the race with B and even got his medal, but not without some tears.

Friday: 4 mi treadmill at the hotel (and 4.5 hours in the car). I got in another treadmill run at the hotel gym while B and the kids were in the hotel pool, and then it was time to hit the road to visit my cousin in NJ and then drive up to Albany for dinner with my parents.

Saturday: 5.01 miles outside I was grateful to be able to get in a few miles while my parents watched the kids. It was colder than I have been used to, but sunny and I finished under 10 minute miles and felt good the whole time.

Total mileage: 27.08 mi

Questions for you:

  • Did you travel this week?
  • Do you Turkey Trot? If you did, was it by yourself or with friends or family?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. How fun!! I love that your oldest ran with you. Mine ran a TT with me when he was young, but he won’t run one now, lol. I did get my youngest to run this year and he ran with me, even when I told him to run ahead. We had a great time! Looks like you got some decent mileage this week in spite of being so busy. Nice job!

  2. You did have a busy week! How nice that your kids did the race with you. I miss those days!We hosted so no traveling here but we did have a full house

  3. That’s a lot of traveling! The turkey trot looks fun, even with the tears shed 😉 I’ve only run my local Trot, but have volunteered at the DSM one (packet pickup). I’d love to trot elsewhere some day!

  4. That is a funny picture of your kids- I always feel like when there are three or more kids in a photo, one of them is inevitably crying. But congratulations to all the kids for finishing their races! Sounds like a great week- I’m glad you were able to travel and see your family.

  5. Oh, sweet GM! That breaks my heart! He must have been like “what the heck, people?!”

Congratulations to you all! Sounds like you had a wonderful week. It’s nice to be able to see everyone for the holidays!

  6. How lovely that your oldest ran the race with you! That must have been fun, although your youngest obviously didn’t think so. Happy you had a good Thanksgiving with family!

  7. Great job fitting in the runs around all the travel and family time! The Turkey Trot sounds like an adventure for the whole family 🙂 Way to go!
